I have corrected Ketron SD1000 Instrument Definition, so that now
is possible to choice all sounds (from all 4 Banks) also via INS & SF2
"SELECT A SOUND".

Edit : The correct file is here : https://www.varranger.com/vforum/index.php/topic,1718.msg35279.html#msg35279

The LSB and MSB were in old Instrument Definition exchanged. Because of that,
when you chose Sound Program from INS & SF2 > SELECT A SOUND table,
you heard only sounds from first Bank (A), no matter what of Bank you select,
because MSB was always "0", and only LSB values are changed (0,1,10,11). This
was wrong, MSB (#CC0) Midi Command must be different by Sound Banks A,B,C,D
(0,1,10,11) and LSB (#CC32) is always "0". Now is all OK !!!!!

Lylo

The ins. of the SD2 have the same problem, I will look your file for see where is the modifications.
Thanks.

Dan

I think this is a problem of vArranger, because the INS file says Use Only Bank 0

agaton

I don't think that problem of vArranger is. It is a wrong script in Cakewalk
Instrument Definition for SD1000, and also for SD2. Corrections what I
done are near end of script.

Before correction:

[Ketron SD1000]
BankSelMethod=1
Control=Ketron SD1000 Controllers
RPN=Ketron SD1000 RPN
NRPN=Ketron SD1000 NRPN
Patch[67]=Ketron SD1000 Bank 67
Patch[11]=Ketron SD1000 Bank D
Patch[10]=Ketron SD1000 Bank C
Patch[1]=Ketron SD1000 Bank B
Patch[0]=Ketron SD1000 Bank A

After correction:

[Ketron SD1000]
BankSelMethod=1
Control=Ketron SD1000 Controllers
RPN=Ketron SD1000 RPN
NRPN=Ketron SD1000 NRPN
Patch[8576]=Ketron SD1000 Drawbars
Patch[1408]=Ketron SD1000 Bank D
Patch[1280]=Ketron SD1000 Bank C
Patch[128]=Ketron SD1000 Bank B
Patch[0]=Ketron SD1000 Bank A

Dan

Yes, but maybe BankSelMethod=1 says that we don't need to set the cc 32

The best way is to test it in cakewalk sonar

Dan

By the way, I don't think SD1000 has drawbars on bank 67 :)

Correctly, I know that. SD1000 hasn't Drawbars on Bank 67. It was stayed
in original SD1000 Instrument Definition file from Ketron site, I shell delete
this line in Instrument Definition of SD1000. Also GM Bank must be deleted
and Drum Bank must be corrected, so that Drum Kits can be loaded on Right
or Left sound tracks. To time this is not possible. Audio Drum Loops are not
in list of Instrument Definition, this must be also corrected. Many arguments,
to declare this Instrument Definition for SD1000 (from Ketron Site) as totally
incorrect !!!

Dan

The good news, is that vArranger includes all the sounds of the SD1000 well grouped and the selection of sounds is very easy.

No need to bother with the INS files :)

agaton

That's true and this is the best way to select sounds. Is there (in vArranger) one
option to make User Prests like this grouped sounds for SD1000, or SD2, or XG,
or... ? I mean not User Multi sounds which is possible to make from preset sounds
(on Right 1 to 4), I know that is possible. I mean Preset Sounds for one new instrument
like Roland Fantom or similar and to select them in Options> Midi Ports > Midi Out.

Dan

No, but in the new version, SF2 sounds will be there automatically.

If you have special need for sound module integration, let me know privately

agaton

OK Dan, I shall send e-mail to you.

Thanx !!!

Hi all
I have loaded the KetronSD1000xSonar.ins into Varranger.

When I select sound from the INS selection screen,  Varranger does not send any bank information, only the program change message.

00023534  25  --     CC    77    --   13  ---  PC: Reverse Cymbal

When selecting from the built in voice menu it works as usual, sending both bank and program change.

0001F3EF  25  --     BC    00    00   13  ---  CC: Bank MSB
0001F3EF  25  --     CC    77    --   13  ---  PC: Reverse Cymbal

Dan has written somewhere that we should load each .ins file only once!
How do I clear the loaded .ins files from Varranger?
Any idea of why it does not send Bank change message when selecting sound from the INS/SF2 menu?

with thanks in advance

Dan

If I remember well, for the Ketron gears, we only send the banks when they changes. If you stay on the same bank it is not needed. We save one millisecond that way

drepalla

Hi Dan
Thank you for prompt reply!

I have now checked this further and can confirm what you wrote about Varranger does not send the Bank message again when within the same bank and sounds are selected by the GUI.

Still it sends no bank change at all when using the INS/SF2 menu to select sound, regardless of which Bank I choose from.
So far the problem occurs when either SD2 or SD1000 is chosen in the Midi settings.

Dan

Yes, but this is not a problem since the correct SD2 / SD1000 sounds are still selected

drepalla

yes it is a problem because from the INS/SF2 menu I can only select one of the 128 sounds from the first bank.

I am using SD1000 or SD2 as a midi output number 2.

Dan

If you select a sound in a different bank, it should send the BANK0 too

Ah... I think there is a problem in the SD1000 INS file from Agaton

Try to delete it (right clic on the INS button and delete the file, then restart vArranger) and load the one from Ketron website.

Here is the correct SD1000 INS file downloaded form the Ketron Website :

Hi again
The .ins file from Ketron website is the working one, thank you Dan! - now I can select voice from any of the 4 banks from the INS/SF2 menu.

Right click does not work on the INS/SF2 button nor on the INS file itself in the INS/SF2 menu.
I had to rename the  .INS file to make it load and work. . or maybe I should have tried to restart Varranger?

Now I just need to delete the not working .INS file from the menu - I am not allowed to right click and delete the .ins file.

Dan

Right clic on the INS button of the vArranger main screen, it will open the folder for you, and then delete the file and restart vArranger

drepalla

Hi again!
Now it is working, by following Dan's instructions!
Many thanks, now I can start playing around again!

drepalla

Dan

Great, so I will remove the first INS file

drepalla

Good idea, although I am sure Agathon only had good intentions, this file has given me pretty bad headache, so lets prevent others from the experience  8)

Dan

In 2014 it was a good file, but now vArranger interprets the line BankSelMethod=1 correctly

drepalla

OK, thanks for the explanation Dan :)

Sometimes it is convenient to browse the sounds from the INS/SF2 menu in Varranger, I like the right-side list with the alternatives to jump straight to sound to test it out.
