What version of vArranger were you using with Win 7 before the clean up? And what version of vArr are you using now with Win 10 after the cleanup?

Hello Dan,

Thank you for all the time and effort you have spent and dedicated to this update on the DRUM MIXER,
and also for the detailed explanation.

Yes, Please send me the new update.

Many thanks,

John

Hello Dan,

Just to be sure, is vs 1.17.90 the new version that will replace my current vs 1.17.98?
And will the 1.17.90 correct the DRUM MIXER issue I've been having with Windows 10?

If yes, then please send me the new version. I can hardly wait.

Thank you Dan,

John

Hi Dan

I just sent you an email. We transfer.com notified me that the 8 problem Song Chords that I sent you on 3-15-17 were never downloaded and will expire tomorrow.

Please download them before they expire.

Thank you,

John

Hi Dan,

I was able to transfer some problem styles with WETRANSFER.COM to your email address.

Please let me know if you received the transfer.

Thanks,

John

Thank you Dan for restoring the vArranger back onto my new laptop. I am very grateful.

Dan,

The vArranger v1.17.98 was deleted off my new computer when Norton anti virus put it in quarantine, and deleted the vArranger. I still have the data but I can't access the styles without the vArranger being reinstalled.

Thanks,

John

Hi Dan,

You said in the new version, for some reasons, every time the drum kit is changed, the drum mixer is reloaded. Some styles has different drum kits for each variations..."
But I've noticed that even when the drum kit is the same for all four variations with 1.17.98, that out of the blue one drum instrument can change and play at the full volume level of 127 on certain variations. And if I hit the panic button it causes all of the drum parts to reload and play at full volume of 127. And if I don't hit the panic button, and try to adjust the volume level of that one drum instrument the vArranger won't allow me to control the volume level of that drum instrument. But it will allow me to control the volume levels of the other drum instruments.

Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Thanks,

John

Thanks Barry,

I've sent you an email.

Thanks Barry,

Every bit of advice is important to me, what you said is much appreciated. I'm thinking about dedicating my new laptop to the vArranger and choosing another anti virus software and getting rid of Norton 360.

What version of vArranger are you using with Windows 10, and which laptop and screen size did you choose?

On my old MacBook Pro, with Windows 7 partitioned on one side of the HD using vArranger v1.17.89, (and all the previous versions) the vArranger was rock solid with the drum mixer in Song Chords. Only when I purchased the HP Pavilion 15.6" with Windows 10 and after Dan installed for me v1.17.98 on my new computer is when I started having these issues with the Drum Mixer in Song Chords, which I have detailed in my posts on this thread. Of course I'm spoiled now that I've been using the Song List feature plus many of the other new features in v1.17.98 I wouldn't want to go back to the older version.

I know Dan will fix v1.17.98 and send me a new version, and in the meantime I still can use my old MacBook with v1.17.89.

thanks,

John
#12
Thank you Barry for assuring me of the stability of Windows 10 with vArranger. I really needed to hear that. Are you using the SD 2? And if so have you had any issues with the drum mixer edit in Song Chords?

I've just spent eleven hours after Norton 360 deleted the vArranger v1.17.98 from off the desk top and off the computer this morning. None of the older vArrangers will open anymore. The Norton anti virus was mistakenly thinking the vArranger was a TROJAN.GEN2 virus with a high risk. Norton had quarantined the vArranger which was probably why it wouldn't RESTORE. Norton has now been programmed to recognize vArranger and never quarantine it again.

The good news is that all of the data wasn't deleted that was in vArranger v 1.17.98. Only the vArranger folder doesn't show up anymore on the desktop. And none of the older vArrangers that do show up won't open.

I'm confident that Dan will be able to restore everything.

Dan would you please log in to my computer?

Thanks,

John

Hi Dan,

After clicking on the vArranger 1.17.98 to open, and after clicking OK on the warning from Windows 10, and five minutes after the vArranger had opened, The Norton 360 anti virus program popped up with a notification "for security reasons the Norton 360 will restart yes or no." I pushed yes and after the restart, the vArranger v1.17.98 had disappeared from the desktop.

I will send the vArranger Song files to you using wetransfer.com once the restore to March 8, 2017 is successful.

Thanks,

John
#15
Located the lost folder. Could someone please explain how to position the folder with all of its files back into the vArranger main screen?

Thanks

John
#16
Hi Dan,

In trying to send you these Song Chord songs, I have somehow succeeded in deleting or losing the folder with all of my songchords and scores that I use for my gigs.

Please log in to my computer and try to locate this folder.

thanks,

John
#17
What is your email address that I use to send the files to in using wetransfer.com?

Thanks,

John
#18
Dan, Sorry, I've never sent a style to you, please tell me the steps to send you the Style and the Style file.

Also, i've recorded the problem style while I was singing live Sunday to the voice recorder on my mobile phone. How best to send this recording to you?

Thanks

John
#19
Hi Dan,

I've downloaded v1.17.89 from Windows 7 to Windows 10 but can't get it to open.

I had the same problems at my gig on Sunday with v1.17.98 on Windows 10 where the volumes of the Sd 2 drum voices in the DRUM MIXER in some (not all) of the Song Chords would change from the saved setting to max setting forcing me to stop the Song Chord in the middle of a performance. When I would press the PANIC button, all of the Drum Mixer voices would automatically go the loudest setting of 127.

I thought that since I didn't have the drum mixer problems with v1.17.89 on my MacBook Pro with Windows 7 that I would try running v1.17.89 on my new computer running Windows 10. But After downloading it to Windows 10 I can't get v1.17.89 to open.

Thanks

John
#20
Do you have the problem with all the songs? or just one or few?
When you have the problem, tell me if it occurs when you change variation, and the style has a different drum kits between variations

Sorry Dan I was posting when you sent this.

Normally I stay with the same drum kit for all variations. Whatever drum kit I choose for the song, I don't change it when I change variations.

Thanks

John

Dan, another example using the SD2 with Win 10 and v1.17.98: in this Song Chord I have volume control over the KICK, SNARE, HI HAT, CYMBAL, RIM SHOT, but I have no volume control over the TOM. On Fill In 3 there is a volume 127 on the cymbal which does not respond to the cymbal volume.

Thanks,

John
#22
But with Windows 10, using the SD 2, it's not allowing me to change the volume levels of all the drum instruments all of the time. But using Windows 7  could.

John
#23
With Windows 10 it's not a problem with all the songs, but it's random and intermittent.
For example, with COOL8BEAT, in DRUM MIXER EDIT right now I can control the volume settings of the KICK, SNARE, HI HAT, CYMBAL. But I have no control of the volume of the RIM SHOT. It plays at the loudest level of 127.

Another example, I might save all the settings of the drum mixer and an hour later come back to that song and the TOM might play at the loudest level of 127 on  a Fill In or break.

Thanks

John
#24
Dan, I'm using the SD2 with both Win 7 and Win 10. But with Windows 10 and v1.17.98 something is causing the DRUM MIXER settings to change after being saved. But when using Win 7 and v1.17.89 the settings in the DRUM MIXER once saved stay saved.

I realize that if I'm using the vArranger Software Synth in MIDI OUT, instead of the SD 2, the DRUM MIXER settings don't respond to being changed in both Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Thanks,

John
#25
Dan, I'm using version v1.17.98 on the new computer running Windows 10.

Claudio, on my old computer running Windows 7 and using vArranger v1.17.89, I can save the drum mixer settings. And once saved the settings would not randomly alternate the volume levels between the saved setting and the max volume level of 124 of the different drum instruments like the KICK, SNARE, HI HAT, CYMBAL, TOM, and the dreaded RIMSHOT the way it's currently doing with Windows 10 using v1.17.98.

I'm using the same styles and patterns with Windows 10 with vArranger v1.17.98 that I used with Windows 7 with vArranger v1.17.89.

Thanks for the quick response,

John
#26
I had saved all my DRUM MIXER SETTINGS with SONG CHORDS in Windows 10, but during my first gig this past Sunday using my new computer with Windows 10, I had to stop playing in the middle of songs when the DRUM MIXER SETTINGS would change. For example, I had saved the volume level of the Rim Shot to 24. But after I started to play the Song Chord the volume level of the Rim Shot changed by itself to 124. I had to stop in the middle of the song which was very embarrassing.

This occurred randomly numerous times. Sometimes it would be the Snare changing from the saved value to 124. Other times it would be the Tom or the Kick Drum.

Dan, I noticed that When you helped me around Christmas time that you installed v1.17.98 on my new computer with Windows 10. But is the new version of vArranger v1.17.90?.

The DRUM MIXER EDIT in Song Chords is the only unstable part of vArranger with Windows 10 that I've found.

Is this just me or is anyone else using Windows 10 with vArranger and not having any problems with the DRUM MIXER EDIT? Please let me know.

Since Christmas, I've averaged about four hours a day rewriting all of my lyrics to fit the larger 15.6" screen sizescreen from my 13.3" MacBook. And revamped all of the Song Chords on the new computer. It's very frustrating to get to this point only to find out that there's a problem with Windows 10 and the DRUM MIXER EDIT. If I had known this before, I wouldn't have bought the new computer with Windows 10.

Thanks,

John

In Song Chords the FILL IN BA automatically repeats itself for three measures when using Windows 10.

With Windows 10, the Fill In AA, BB, CC, DD play correctly for only one measure, but everytime the Fill In BA is triggered it repeats itself for three measures before going to the next chord.

I'm using SD 2 with Windows 10.

I'm hoping that this can be fixed as I use the Fill In BA a lot in Song Chords.

Thanks,

John

The midi out was set to SD 2.

But what's interesting is that yesterday I was experimenting with trying different midi out modes with Windows 10: GM, GS, GM2 etc. while using the vArranger synth. Mode. And when I set up the Ketron SD2 tonight with the Windows 10, I had forgotten to switch back to the SD 2 mode in vArranger. And without exiting the vArranger, I switched from the GM to the Sd 2 and somehow that must have triggered something because voila, the vArranger's DRUM MIXER was now allowing me to control the vol levels of the drum instruments that before had not responded to the individual drum volume controls.

I hope this isn't premature to say everything is now ok, but I will post again after I'm sure that the drum mixer in vArranger is functioning in Windows 10 the way it was with Windows 7.

Thanks Dan

I'm using the SD2 with both the Windows 7 on the MacBook Pro 13.3", and Windows 10 on the  HP Pavilion 15.6"

With my new laptop running Windows 10 the DRUM MIXER individual volume levels are not controlling the volume levels of the kick, snare, hi hat, cymbal, Tom etc. And some of the drum mixer notes keep sounding even when all of the volume levels are set to 0. For example, the hi hat keeps sounding even when the drum mixer hi Hat volume is at 0. Another example, when I play the PIANO BALLAD style with the Windows 10 the snare is playing at the 127 volume level even though the volume level of the snare in the drum mixer is set to 0. The only way to lower the volume of the snare is to turn the master drum slider down on the vArranger screen. And it's not all of the drum mixer volumes that are affected, but just one. And with one style it might be the snare, and with another style it could be the Tom.
But when I play the same styles using my MacBook Pro running Windows 7, I have never experienced this problem before. It's just with Windows 10.
Thanks for your help,

John

I've noticed that all of my Song Chords lyrics need rewriting on my new HP 15.6" with Windows 10,
after copying them from my 13.3" MacBook Pro with Windows 7.

Does anyone know a way that I can avoid having to rewrite all of my Song Chord lyrics that are now on my new Windows 10 15.6" HP laptop?

Also, on Windows 10 could someone please explain how to format vArranger so that it's not always covering up the task Bar? On Windows 7 I could move the cursor down to the bottom of the screen and the task bar would automatically appear. But I can't open the taskbar in this way with Windows 10.

Thank you,

John

Hello Dan, (sorry)
#33
Hell Dan,

I want to thank you for taking your valuable time on Christmas Day to log into my new computer and get vArranger up and running with Windows 10, and thank you also for loading the newest vArranger upgrade as well.

Somehow you must have sensed the dilemma I was facing and decided to come to my rescue.

Merci beaucoup,

John

Hello Dan,

I had to purchase a new computer. How do I transfer all of my varranger files and data from my old computer to the new computer?

My 7 year old Mackbook Pro's hard drive is now defective. The Mac side of my partitioned HD has corrupted files, and does not work anymore and the data is more than likely all lost and the HD can't be fixed. The Windows 7 side of the partitioned Mac is still working and the varranger is still functioning, but I've been warned that the Windows partitioned side is on borrowed time and could crash at any time.

I've just purchased a new HP Pavilion 15-au063 15.6" intel core i7-6500U Processor 12 GB Ran, 1 TB, Windows 10,
Super multi DVD burner, 4.27 lbs. $599.99 at Staples.

Do you see any compatibility issues with vArranger and this computer? And does vArranger run ok on Windows 10?

I'm paying the tech pros at Staples to do the transfer of the Windows 7 data on the Mac over to the new computer, including vArranger, so there won't be any mistakes by me. Please explain to them in an email to me what needs to be done.

Also, if there's a new vArranger upgrade, could you please send me me a link for that.

Thanks Dan, and merry Christmas to you and everyone,

John
#35
thank you Lylo and Dan,

I understand and I can live with that.

What a difference and joy it is to have and work with this wonderful product, the vArranger.

If everyone had experienced 25 years of bug infested Ketron products including both modules and keyboards, like I have, you would grow to appreciate more what you have with Dan and his vArranger.

AFTER IVE SCANNED IN SHEET MUSIC TO SONG CHORDS, AND CICK ON THE + to save window position, the window position is not being saved.

But when I type in the lyrics in EDIT TEXT in song chord, and click on the + to save window position, then the window positin is being saved.

Could someone please explain why I'm unable to save the window position in ASSOCIAT SHEET MUSIC?

Thank you,

John

In SONG CHORDS when I'm writing in the lyrics in editing the text, is there anyway I can add just enough manuscript that I can enter the notes for the INTRO at the beginning of the lyrics, and then add some manuscript to add notes for the ending.

I'm playing all intros and endings with SONG CHORDS, and sometimes I forget the lead line for intros and endings. Without having to scan a piece of manuscript paper with the notes, is there a way to write in the notes for a 4 bar intro and ending in SONG EDIT in SONG CHORDS?

Thanks,

John

Thank you Dan,

With these free play styles from Yamaha playing through the vArranger, and in stop mode to have the ability to sound Different voices on the K8 with at least one and two notes sounding, for example a Hammond B3 with the bass note on the bottom, my friend will have the best of both worlds.

Thank you for taking the time to make this clear to me.

My friends name is Pastor Pye.

Merry Christmas,

John
#39
In the stop mode, how can you assign through the vArranger a Hammond B3 voice to  the K8 to sound on top a of the bass note?

Could you please send me some styles with a sustained chord, and some of the Yamaha Etheral styles as well?

Thanks Dan,

John
#40
Can the k8, without the Ketron SW13 and SW6, drive the chord changes for the vArranger styles?

And when the style has stopped, can the K8 and vArranger produce a a sustained triad chord for each major and minor bass pedal that is pushed?

I saw the SD2 for $390.00 at Ketron US, and the vArranger is $385.00 totaling $775.00, compared to around $2500.00 plus for the MidJay pro and MidJay Plus. Not to mention the combination of the vArranger with the SD2 is a far superior product.

So I'm hoping there's a way he can sustain chords with the K8 and vArranger when the style is stopped using two feet to make the minor changes.

John
#41
Can the vArranger assign different chords, like a minor and a minor 7th, chord to the Ketron SW 6 switch pedal?
So if I'm playing  an A chord on the K8, and then press the SW 6 pedal that through the vArranger I've assigned an A minor 7th designation, then an A minor 7th chord will play.
#42
He plays guitar. And he would like his wife to sustain chords when he's not playing the pedals himself using styles. Kind of like an acapello thing when the styles are off.

With the MidJay Plus, the 15 pin connector from the FS 13 and FS 6 would plug directly into the MidJay Plus, and along with the K8 would control the vArrangers styles and chords.

My question, is how would the K8 and FS13 and FS6 connect to the SD2, since the SD2 doesn't have the 15 pin connector like the MidJay Plus has.

The MIDI from the K8 could plug into the SD2 with new problem.

Thanks,

John
#43
Hi Dan,

Ive sold my MidJay Plus module that I used to play the K8 with. And have donated the K8 to a pastor of a church. Im trying to advise him to purchase the SD2, $399.00 at Amazon, and the vArranger2 $439.00 totaling $838.00. Instead of recommending his purchasing the MidJay Plus.

I want to be sure that connecting the Midi OUT from the K8 to the MIDI IN of the Roland audio interface  And the MIDI out of the audio interface to the MIDI IN of the SD2 will control the chords, and the incidentals (minors etc.), and the  K8 along with the Ketron 13 switch and 6 switch pedal would control the vArranger2s functions.

The pastor said it was important for him that when the vArranger Style would stop, that the K8 could still sound the chords. Could you tell me if it will?

Thanks,

John Graham

After I experiement with the VL3 I'll know better about using the
fx delay and will let you know.

Thanks for clarifying that the VL3x WILL Nof be in sync with  SONG CHORDS when playing back an audio backing track. And for explaining the connection in vArranger.

John
#45
Thanks Dan,

I've never had a need to use midi sync before. But now with the VL3 the need arises.

I'm thinking of going with the VL3 to use with vArranger instead of the VL3x, which probably won't be released for another month or longer.

I don't want to lose the auto scrolling feature you built into SONG CHORDS. And my concern with the VL3x is that once I record my SONG CHORD songs on to the zoom H6 recorder as a 44.1 WAV file and store it on a USB flash drive as a backing track, and use that backing track in the VL3x, that when I hit PLAY on the VL3x then the SONG CHORDS won't display and scroll on the vArranger.

Also, it's only assumed by TC HELICON customer support that the midi sync will function on the VL3x. And they won't know until after they get a unit in their hands.

And the midi sync definitely functions with the VL3. So would you agree that between the VL3 and the VL3x, the VL3 would be a better choice to use with the vArranger?

How would I connect to use the 2nd midi out to drive the harmony?

Thanks,

John

Check out this video on you tube using MIDI SYNC, and would it be possible to SYNC the VOICE LIVE 3 as a slave to the SONG CHORDS of vArranger?

Thanks,

John

The VOICE LIVE 3 also added a firmware update called MIDI SYNC, and will probably available on the VL3x too.

Thanks

John

VoiceLive 3 - Firmware 1.2.02 Released

Craig
posted this on Mar 17, 18:48
Hi All,

There's talk about this update across several forum threads, so I figured I'd just throw together a quick post outlining the major features of the update.

VoiceLive 3
1.2.02 Firmware Release
MIDI Sync
Slave to external MIDI clock sources
Keep delay, rhythmic and loops in time
MP-76 Support
Control any vocal effect and the looper directly from your mic
Loop controls for Switch 3/6
Basic loop controls (Loop Track A) are available for mapping to Switch3/6
Rec/Play/Odub
Stop/Clear
Undo/Redo
Mix Looper to NaturalPlay
Mixes loop audio into the NaturalPlay engine
Allows you to guide key/scale from recorded instrument loops
MET Follows Playback
The METronome in the Looper can be set to turn on and off when you play back your loop
This allows you to use the MET sound as a component of the loop performance without having to worry about turning it off/on separately
Improved Chord Detection
Our core chord detection algorithm has been improved to offer better accuracy
Improved Vocal Cancel
The ability to remove lead vocals from Aux input sources has been improved
It's still dependent on the original mix of the music, but works better in most cases

Tremolo decouple from Tempo/MET
Trem can sound better when not tied to the tempo of the unit. There's a "TREM BPM" control in the Tremolo style that lets you override the box tempo with a Trem tempo you prefer.

Tweaks
Cleaned up the SETUP menu UI
Removed BUTTONMAP tab
Added Mic Control tab
Added Switch/Exp tab
The menus were getting too cluttered with parameters, especially with MP-76 and Switch6 options, so we separated them out into more easily digestible menus
Menus are context sensitive, meaning that parameters are shown for the device selected. You won't see 6 switch options when you select Switch 3
You can get the update via VoiceSupport: http://www.tc-helicon.com/products/voicesupport/

http://www.pmtonline.co.uk/tc-helicon-voicelive-3-extreme-vocal-and-guitar-effects-pedal.html

Will the vArranger allow me to create an AUDIO FILE backing track with the SONG CHORD, and save it to a USB flash drive?

TC HELICON has just introduced their VOICE LIVE 3 EXTREME vocal, guitar effects, and looper pedal.
Up to 100 AUDIO BACKING TRACKS can be loaded for live accompaniment via a standard USB flash drive
MP3 and 16/24 bit WAV import formats supported.
Onboard sequencer records and plays back FX and step activations live.
Backing tracks/sequencing load quickly via associated presets.
Icon based play/record/editing interface and waveform display.

I'm trying to decide between ordering the VOICE LIVE 3, or the VOICE LIVE 3 EXTREME. Which one would be best suited to use with the vArranger. I'm currently using just SONG CHORDS.

If I'm able to save a SONG CHORD to an AUDIO BACKING TRACK, and then load that audio backing track into the VL3 EXTREME, and hit the play button, I assume that the SONG CHORD would not play on the vArranger screen in sync while its playing on the VL3 EXTREME?

Is anyone currently using the VOICE LIVE 3 with vArranger?

With my military discount, the VOICE LIVE 3 cost $510.00, and the VOICE LIVE 3 EXTREME $799.00 with no discount.

Since I'm not planning on using the VOICE LIVE independent of the vArranger, please give me your opinion which one to choose.

Thank you,

John

I'm very happy with the DISASTER MIDI DMC-6, together with the DMC-2 midi foot controller. It's USB powered, and very small.

John
#50
Thank you Dan and Lylo,

That worked!

I've successfully downloaded v1.17.89 after first installing the vAsynth.

I was so happy to see the Track 1-16 SOLO displayed in Controllers.

Thank you again Dan for this wonderful update.

The vArranger stock just went up in price.

John

Hi Dan,

After downloading new version and choosing to RUN, the screen turns black and in the center it says LOADING. The mouse turns into an hour glass. But vArranger doesn't load, even after 50 minutes. I have to force close to get out of LOADING mode.

I tried deleting and re downloading, but same results.

When I tried saving to the Desktop, I don't see the vArranger icon just the Explorer icon showing ...

Thank you

John

Hi Dan,

Thank you for adding the 16 tracks SOLO capability in options/controllers. And being able to save the on/off w/ save song.

Will I be able to turn the SOLO MIXER TRACKS on/off with my midi controller while the SONG CHORD is playing?

Please send me the new vs. 1.17.89

John
#55
I agree Al,

I also would love to have control of turning the SOLO function on/off in each track.

Within each mixer track to have not only separate midi controllers dedicated to turning each track on/off; but, also have controllers for each track that would turn the SOLO function on/off as well.

Thanks,

john
#56
Hi Dan,

In CONTROLLERS/MIXER, Does vArranger accept MIDI CC Values instead of MIDI notes?

The software developer for DISASTER AREA MIDI need to know this before he can change the firmware on my midi pedals.

Enclosed is his email to me.

Thanks,

John

John, thanks for your comment.  The DMC-6D sends MIDI note messages when you press the buttons.  If vArranger can map notes to its functions then you should not need to do anything else.  It sounds as though it accepts notes for transport control, but not for mixer controls.  I'm assuming your'e trying to mute / unmute various tracks?  In that case we may need to change the firmware in the controller to send MIDI CC values instead of notes.

If you could please verify what kinds of control messages vArranger will accept for mixer controls I'll be happy to change the firmware to support them.

Thanks,

Matthew Farrow, DISASTER AREA MIDI

 Thanks Haweneu,

I Can hardly wait till Sunday and try live muting of some mixer tracks with my Disaster Midi foot controller while playing SONG CHORDS.

Also, that AUTOMATIC MUTING on special measures in SONG CHORDS is not yet possible in vArranger2.   :'(

John
#58
I never bought the Korg Nanocontrol 2 since I'm playing guitar and in a live setting thought it might be awkward to push the buttons with my hands.

How can I use my midi foot controller to turn the solo buttons on tracks 1-8 on/off in vArranger?

And, will this work within SONG CHORDS or just while playing a style?

Thanks ,

John
#59
Hi Haweneu

I think you said that in the vArranger controller/track section you could mute any combination of tracks 1-16 in vArranger, or assign all 16 tracks to one controller to mute all 16 tracks at the same time.

Then you said when playing a STYLE you could press one button .......

Are you saying that the controller track muting can only be done when playing STYLES, and not during SONG CHORDS?

I won't be able to try this on my middle foot controller until Sunday as I left it where I'm playing at.

Thank you for your ideas and help,

John

And thank you Barry and Al for all your good ideas and comments. I can see that you have been looking forward to  "muting of any combination of tracks in SONG CHORDS" for a long time.

Thanks Haweneu,

So, while playing a song chord song I would click on the midi foot switch that I've assigned to number 212 under the MIXER section in Controllers, which would be Track 1 DRUMS, and this would turn the drum track on/off. Then another click on that same midi foot switch would turn the drum track back on. I would then have to manually click on the midi foot switches that I've assigned to the tracks I want to control while playing live.

Now, for example, when I'm creating a song IN SONG CHORDS And I wanted to mute the drums on measure 48 to measure 56, and have just the bass playing for measure 48 to measure 56. How would I go about doing that so that these tracks would automatically be muted in SONG CHORDS when measure 48 to measure 56 would play?

Thanks,

John

Hi Jolon,

If you had a N.A. feature in SONG CHORDS where all the accompaniment was silenced while the SONG CHORD was playing, how would you keep the tempo for those measures where you enabled N.A.?
Would you just follow the SONG CHORD AS IT PLAYS?

In my case, when i use SONG CHORDS half of my MacBook 13" screen is filled with lyrics and the other half is filled with the SONG CHORD song. So, I wouldn't be able to view the meter bar if N.A. WAS WRITTEN INTO THE SONG CHORD.

Thanks,

John

When creating a SONG CHORD, it would be just wonderful to be able to silence the drums and other voices at certain points while the SONG CHORD is playing and just leave the bass and a pad playing for so many measures. And then have the drums come back in with the other voices.
It would be like playing with a real band when I could play a solo with just the me and the bass player for 8 measures. Or be able to Sing for 16 bars with just a Hammond organ voice playing. The possibilities to create in vArranger would be endless.

Thanks,

John

Why I spent more money to buy a new Prius-mainly to average over 50 mpg and because it is an extremely reliable car as evidenced by the review of other Prius owners.

For the same reason I purchased the vArranger: I save money by not having to buy new vArranger models every other year, because of the free upgrades provided to every vArranger purchaser.

EXAMPLE: SOLTON/KETRON modules and keyboards I've purchase over the past 30 years.
                Programmer 24
                MS40
                 XD 3
                 SD 1
                 SD 1 Plus
                 MS 40
                 SD2
                 MidJay
                 MidJay Plus
                 K8 midi bass pedals, FS6, FS13, volume pedal w/switches

I've spent over $15,000 in the past 30 years on the above SOLTON/KETRON modules and keyboards and accessories. In return, I've received Poor support from this manufacturer. New products sold with numerous bugs, too quick to rush new product to market. I was limited in my performance in what I could do when playing styles live.

With vArranger, the initial cost was under $400.00. The joy in working with a software program developed by a gigging musician was instantly recognizable in the way everything was laid out. And this was invaluable to me.

In the few years that I have been using the vArranger I'm playing at a much higher level now using the vArranger than I ever did using the SOLTON/KETRON modules and keyboards.

I'm using a MACBOOK PRO 13" Mountain Lion, and using Boot Camp running WIN 7, I have no latency issues at all with vArranger.

How much should you charge for vArranger?

The KETRON AUDYA KEYBOARD is priced at over $4000.00. The AUDYA 5 at $2800.00. The vArranger2, in my humble opinion, offers so much more. The song lists, viewing the chords scrolling live in SONG CHORDS while viewing the lyrics side by side on the MacBook etc, all housed within the laptop is so much more convenient to use and carry with you.

I would keep the free upgrades for vArranger. Knowing what I know now about the vArranger, I would have paid the same price for the vArranger that I paid for the MidJay Plus in a heartbeat.

On Amazon the MidJay Plus is priced at $2113.00

In lieu of what you are getting today when you purchase the vArranger version 1.17, I think the price should be $1500.00.

Also, to have a reviewer comment option available for vArranger owners to rate and comment on why they rate the vArranger so high. Like the Prius owners, I'm confident all the vArranger owners' varied reasons what they love most about the vArranger would be the incentive for new owners to invest $1500.00

Thanks Lee and Jolon,

I guess that the vArranger at this time doesn't have the ability to mute selected voices in the SONG CHORD mode, while allowing other voices to play.

But DAN is watching this post to see how many vArranger users, like us, think that this would be a wonderful enhancement for the SONG CHORDS.

And if a lot of people respond and agree, then maybe DAN will consider doing it.

In my opinion, DAN is already the most over worked software developer I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Sorry, with the SD 1 I was playing styles using the midi bass pedals, and was able to take out any of the voices while playing live. At that time, unfortunately, I  hadn't purchased the vArranger.

I've sold the SD 1 and am currently playing guitar using the vArranger with the SD 2 and controlling vArranger with the Disaster Control midi foot controller.

And I was just thinking how nice it would be while creating Song Chord Song, to be able to isolate or mute the drums, bass, and all voices of the style, except for a pad voice for an 8 bar interlude. And then pressing the HOLD button activate all the other voices to come back in.

Is anybody using the Song Chords in this way?

John
#66
With the vArranger, in the middle of a SONG CHORD song, is there a way to mute all other voices, leaving, for example, just a pad playing for say 8 bars. And then activate all the other other voices to come back in to finish out the SONG CHORD song?

I think I used to be able to do this with SD1.

Thanks,

John

Hi Lee

I'm using a MacBook pro 13" snow leapord, upgraded to mountain lion, and with boot camp running windows 7.

This is working fine for me with half the 13" screen displaying song chords and the other half displaying the lyrics text.

John
#70
Thank you Dan for letting us know that at the present vArranger will not save the fixed lyrics position. And that you will correct this in a future update.

Also, thank you Thom for your excellent illustration.

Dan, in song chords, can you adjust and and save the window position of the lyrics/text window so that the PANIC button will always be visible at the top of vArranger screen?

Thank you,

John

#73
I can save window position on SONG CHORDS by right clicking mouse, but this doesn't seem to work with the text window.

Is there a way to save the text window position?

It covers up the panic bar, and every time I change song chords I have to manually drag  text screen down to show panic bar.

Thank you,

John
#74
Thanks, I will try it.

But does that mean that the scrolling feature within song chords will not work together with any midi file, regardless if the midi file was created from a song chord or not?

This is a B   I   G  question for me.

Thanks,

John

I have this Midifile editor called GNMIDI that I installed and never used. I've updated it and this was copied from the GNMIDI manual.
Do you think this is compatible with vArranger to assign markers to the song chords after they have been exported to a midi file?

Thank you,

John

Markers
the drop down box contains marker text found in the MIDI file which are sorted by time. During
playing the marker directly before current playing position will be displayed. After selecting a marker
GNMIDI operations 74
(c) 1997 Günter Nagler
from the box the player jumps to the marker position in the song. Markers usually define beginnings
of sections (e.g. intro, refrain, verse) or notices to positions in the song (e.g. contra point, scalar
transposition ...).
Stop
stops playing the song
Play
starts or continues to play current song
Pause
pauses current song
Backward
jumps to position 30 seconds before current position
Position slider
the slider shows current song playing position relative to song duration. The duration between the
position markers is 30 seconds. You can drag the thumb by clicking left mouse button on the thumb
and move the mouse. The player will jump to the position where the mouse button is released.
Forward
jumps to position 30 seconds after current position
3.57 Insert Marker
This operation is only available while a MIDI song is played and the player is currently paused. Use the
MIDI Player Status dialog to move current play position to a location where you want to add a marker
(e.g. intro, refrain, verse, scale transposition ...). Use the pause operation to hold this position and
then start the insert marker operation.
A dialog opens where you can enter a text that describes the mark (single line). Then use OK button to
write the marker into the current active MIDI song (be sure that the correct MIDI file is active if more
files are open).
The new marker will be known to the player only when you play the new result MIDI file.
Abort the dialog using cancel if no modifications are wanted.

(Sorry about that): and opening the midi file in my midi file editor. After I click on export to midi file, am I supposed to get confirmation from vArranger that the song chord has been exported?

Thanks,

John
#77
Thanks Ovation99, that helps me to understand.

But once the converted vArranger song chord that has now been converted into a midi file is loaded back into vArranger, and I see the markers appear where the variations A B C D, intros and endings used to be, will I be able to view this new midi file scrolling and displaying the chords on the grid just like the Song Cords do?

Also, I'm missing the step between clicking export to midi file and opening
#78
I'm trying to export a SONG CHORD into a midi file in vArranger, but can't find any directions on pp 12 in the vArranger manual on how to do this.

Are there any vArranger instructions explaining the correct way to export a Song Chord into a midi file?

Also, in the MARKERS section in the manual it states:

The third option is to use the control usually assigned to variations in key arranger. To do this,
use an editor of MIDI files and name tags, so that they contain: Intro Intro 1 or 2 or 3 or Intro or
Ending Ending 1 Ending 2 or 3 or 4 or Ending Main Main A or B or C or Main Hand D or Fill In
Fill In 1 or 2 or 3 or Fill In Fill In Break.Par example, if the marker is called "Main C" or "Solo
Guitar Hand C", you can go to the position of the marker by pressing the button or pedal
assigned to variation 3 arranger.
5.12 STATUS

Does this mean that after I've exported a SONG CHORD into a midi file using the vArranger, and after I've used a midi file editor to name the  marker"name tags" Main  A or B or C or D, and after I've assigned my midi foot controller to variation 3; then, when I'm playing a SONG CHORD, every time I press the midi foot controller pedal assigned to variation 3  - that I can go back and forth to variation 3 while the SONG CHORD is playing?

Thank you,

John

Happy Thanksgiving Lylo,

If I export a Song Chord to a midi file, directly from the vArranger, what is the simplest way to insert markers  so the vArranger can recognize the markers?

I'm very weak about inserting markers as I've never used midi files with markers before vArranger.

Also, I've never used a DAW before.

Merci,

John

Or, what would be really cool, would be to add controller functions for each of the 4 variations in vArranger.

Then, for example, regardless of where I'm at in Song Chords, I could click on the controller assigned to Variation B
And I would go back to to the last Variation B in Song Chords.

Thanks,

John

What about  Main A, Fill In 1, Ending..... markers to be added?

Nov 27, 2014

Hi Dan,

Playing guitar with vArranger and using SONG CHORDS, if you added these markers would I be able to assign these markers to my foot controller and move from, say the last verse before the ending in SONG CHORDS, back to a bridge in the middle of SONG CHORDS?
Then, the SONG CHORDS would automatically play to the ending by itself.

Thank you,

John

Thanks Dan, that was the key I needed, to enlarge the screen so the longest line of my LYRICS is fully displayed.

The SONG CHORDS and color edited LYRICS are all now appearing with lightening speed. I've never experienced this with either SOLTON OR KETRON equipment before.

I can joyfully say, you've solved this problem.

Thank you Dan,

John

Wow!

I've been typing and saving lyrics all afternoon with no problems. What a joy this new version is to work with.

That makes sense to me now what happened when I Pressed ASSOCIATE SHEET MUSIC and then selected a STYLE instead of TEXT.

One question. When I type in LYRICS save them and then come back later with an EDIT, sometimes, not every time, in the EDIT screen the chords aren't aligning up over the TEXT and mirroring what I originally saved in the LYRICS screen?

Again, thank you Dan for this stunning update to the vArranger.

John

#84
Thanks Dan for all the complicated work you did in solving the problem that I had created in causing the SONG CHORDS to remain GREY instead of turning GREEN. And many thanks for this huge update with the new version. I love the new view in the MY SONG SECTION.

Just to be sure:

After I load a style
Click on LYRICS
Write some text
Click on SAVE TEXT (in the LYRICS box)

After I click on SAVE, I get a POP UP notification that says: DO YOU WANT TO SAVE THIS TEXT IN A NEW FILE, ASSOCIATED WITH THE SONG: BLUEBERRY HILL 54BERRY?  YES or NO

AM I supposed to click YES? And then are the LYRICS automatically saved in this NEW FILE?

I think this is where I somehow managed to put the SONGS and STYLES in the SCORE FOLDER by always clicking YES to this pop up window, before you made the changes. I need to understand how I did this, so that I never make that mistake again.

Thank you,

John

Hi Dan,

You said that you're changing something in vArranger to make it more simple to add lyrics.

1. Will this change correct the current problem I'm having in vArranger where the current SONG CHORD that is playing is not being displayed with a GREEN background color? i.e. The song chords where the lyrics are lost after saving them.

2. How long will I have to wait before you will make these changes?

3. Wouldn't it be easier to just respond to my emails and posts and show me, in the steps that I've already listed, what I'm doing wrong? Or, write out all the steps necessary to add lyrics typed in directly from the vArranger screen?

I know you're very busy, and I've spent many many hours over the past year trying figure out this out, to the best of my ability; and right now, after I've successfully saved four songs with the typed in lyrics, I've run into this green background color in SONG CHORDS not being displayed. Is this a bug in vArranger, or is it something I'm doing that's wrong?

Please let me know something.

Thank you

John

#87
Thanks Dan, but I've got an immediate problem.
1. Every song chord that I've tried to add lyrics to does not show up with a green background color any more. So you can't see what song is currently playing in the song chord column on the left side of the vArranger screen. Because all of the song chords are grey in color until you click on a song chord and then it supposed to change to green.
2.  Now, while one song chord is playing and I scroll to another song chord and click on that song chord to play, vArranger won't play the new song chord anymore, it just keeps repeating the one that was already playing.
3.  If I choose a song chord that I haven't tried to add lyrics to it remains green when I click on it. And if I play that song chord and choose another song chord that I haven't tried to add lyrics to, then vArranger will allow that song chord to play.

could you please look at my computer?

Thanks,

John

I appreciate all the help I've been given, but I'm desperately in need of help now to understand why the lyrics that I'm typing in from the vArranger screen are not staying in memory after being saved.

I have four SONG CHORDS that I've been able to save the LYRICS TO, and they stay in memory. Also, the background color stays green after clicking on those four SONG CHORDS.

But now, every time I try and save new lyrics to existing SONG CHORDS the background color changes from green to grey. And the LYRICS are lost.

These are the steps I'm using:

1. LOAD on the vArranger screen
2. Locate the folder where the song files are located
3. In that folder is another folder named SCORE
4. In that SCORE folder is a list of all the PAT files, MP3 Format Sound, STY. Files, PRS files
5. I click on one of the SONG CHORD files that I want to type in my own lyrics to.
6. vArranger screen opens up with that SONG CHORD hilighted in GREEN
7. Click on LYRICS
8. Type in some LYRICS
9. SAVE TEXT at the top of the LYRICS screen
10. Click on the SONG CHORD that I want to save the LYRICS to, and Right click on ASSOCIATE SHEET MUSIC

At this point are the LYRICS SUPPOSED TO BE saved?

But as soon as I click on one of the other four SONG CHORDS where the LYRICS have already been saved, that SONG CHORD loads perfectly with the LYRICS showing and the SONG CHORD is hi-lighted in GREEN. But now when I click on the SONG CHORD that I've just tried to save with the new LYRICS, those LYRICS are now lost and fail to appear.

Also, the background color of this SONG CHORD is now GREY instead of GREEN.

Thank you for your patience with me,

John

#89
I've successfully created two SONG CHORDS and have typed in the lyrics after pushing the LYRICS button on the vArrangers screen. When I click on that SONG CHORD the lyrics automatically pop up. When I click on the second SONG CHORDS, those lyrics also pop up for that SONG CHORD. Life is good.
Also, when I click one time on the SONG CHORD the display light behind the name of the SONG CHORD is solid green, which is normal.

But now when I try to add more lyrics to other SONG CHORDS, they aren't staying in the memory are are lost when I switch to other song chords. ALSO, THE GREEN LIGHT CLICKS ON MOMENTARILY BUT DOESNT REMAIN GREEN EVEN AFTER THE SONG CHORD APPEARS ON THE SCREEN. THIS CONDITION REMAINS EVEN AFTER A REBOOT.

These are the steps I'm following.

1. Create the song chord
2. Click on the LYRICS BUTTON
3. Type in some lyrics
4. At the top of the LYRICS page I click SAVE
5. Right click on SONG CHORD on ASSOCIATE SHEET MUSIC
6. Look in FOLDER where name of song is located
7. SCORE FOLDER  appears under NAME
8. I type in a few letters of the song title and the choose the FILE with the SONG CHORD showing
9 I OPEN the file that is highlighted
10. The SONG CHORD and the LYRICS Pop up on the vArranger screen.

BUT FROM HERE I LOSE THE LYRICS WHEN I SWITCH BETWEEN THE OTHER SONG CHORDS.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, and why the lyrics aren't staying in the memory?

Thanks Dan for solving two problems that I had. 1. Determined that my loss of sound between the SD2 and vArranger was caused by my accidentally changing the MIDI 1 THRU setting from OFF to ON the on my Roland UM 2G audio interface. This probably happened when I put other cables on top of the audio interface in my carrying bag.
2. Spent a lot of time figuring out why my MP3s would only sound through the computer speakers and not the PA system.

Also, helped me better understand saving lyrics and associating the lyrics with the SONG CHORDS?

This one on one with the vArranger Developer is more than worth the price That I paid for this amazing software.

thanks Dan,

John

I've found an advanced option from the icon trey for asio4all, but it only lists latency
Compensation, and
Three unchecked boxes: 1. Alow pull mode (waveRT) buffer offset. There's a sliding scale
And it's currently set on 4ms
2. Always resample 44.1khz-48khz
3.force WDM driver to 16bit

John
#92
When I click on the Asio4all icon from the TREY I see WDM Device List: CIrrus Logic CS4206A(AB77)

I don't see the advanced pp for the asio4all, it might be there I'm just not seeing it.

I tried downloading the latest 2.12 vs for asio4all , but one file evidently didn't download.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I remember seeing at one time a second list of outputs for the vArranger, and I think headphones
were mentioned, but that second output list has disappeared from the screen.

Thanks,

That was the problem Dan.

I had moved the MIDI 1 THRU from OFF to ON. And I had experimented moving that THRU switch to OFF at the gig, but when I couldn't hear any sound, I moved it back to ON.

B U T  I didn't think to reset the MIDI PORTS like I did tonight.

Everything seems to be working ok.

Any ideas why my MP3 still will still only playback on the computer speakers instead of the pa speakers?

Thank you so much Dan,

I wasn't able to use the vArranger and SD 2 at gig yesterday with approx. 50 people present.

This is the first time that this has happened in over 4 years.

When using SONG CHORDS, The SD 2 is transmitting data through the Cakewaly usb midi interface UM 2G, but no sound is outputted from SD 2 to PA . vArranger is not showing any data signal is received from SD2 .The blue light on SD 2 is not flashing when data is  shown to be transmitted through audio interface.

The SD 2 is approx 4 years old with no updates. Serial Nr. B6AC16009N.

The MP 3 won't play through the PA but sound and plays through the computer speakers.

I tried repeatedly pushing the PANIC button, but there was no flashing blue light on SD 2 or sound from the PA.

I triple checked all connections, and am trying it at home with a combo amp and speaker, but nothing works.

Please help.

Thank you Dan for the new update to 1.17,

The chords all display correctly, and at the end of Each SongChord song it automatically goes to the beginning of the next song.

This is huge for me, as I now don't have to touch the computer anymore when using the midi foot controller to go from one song to another.

And I'm glad that you let me know that I have the new update by adding 1.17.6.

Great work,

Hi Dan,

Please send me the 1.17 June 29th update too.

Will this new update cause the chord incidentals to display correctly in the Song Chords?

Much obliged,

John
#101
Hey Dan,

Another thing I've noticed is the chords are missing from the downloaded 7208 Song Chords file.

After I've saved 5 styles to a vArranger folder, and pull up the Song Chords, no chords are showing.  When I change from one Song Chord to another Song Chord the name of the song changes in the style window, all of the voices and volume levels are also changing, but the Song Chord window is blank.

If I enter a few chords into the Song Chord then the style plays.

I'm trying the beta 6 now, but the chord incidentals are still the same. B! for Bb, B Minor showing up as Bae, X for sus4, etc.

I copied the link text file by R. clicking on the paper clip next to the text file. And tried pasting that to an empty folder in vArranger, but only copied the 1 kb icon.

I couldn't get a copy prompt when I R. clicked on the link text file, just a copy shortcut prompt.

Am I supposed to open the link text file first and then try to copy?

Sorry, my computer skills are very weak in this area.

Hi Dan,

I'm having trouble downloading the 7028 SONG STYLES FOR VARRANGER file.

I've tried dragging and dropping it directly to the new beta 6 that you just sent me. But when I try to find the files under SEARCH in vArranger, it takes me back to this forum page where I downloaded it from.

I also saved to my lap top, and dragged it into the beta 6, but still directs me back to the forum pp.

After I dragged the 7028 file to beta 6, I was prompted if I wanted to download the files and I said yes, but couldn't find them.

Thanks,

Hello Dan,

Wow! Just downloaded the Beta 1.17. The first thing I noticed was a different SONG CHORD structure. And with great anticipation I loaded a new Song Chord and played it to the end: and the scroll bar automatically went to the top. For me, controlling the start/stop, next song/previous song of the Song Chords with the Disaster Area midi foot controller was very important, this was a most welcome upgrade. Thank you very much Dan.

I've noticed that instead of chord names for the incidentals, they are appearing in a different format. For example a Bb is now a B!, A Bbm is now B!wm, etc. Is there a way to show a minor as a m, and a B flat as a Bb instead of as a B! ? All of the other chord incidentals, except for the 7 have also been altered.

Is there a list somewhere of all the new software improvements included with the 1.17 Beta upgrade?

I just wish I had bought the vArranger & the SD2 when they first came out, instead of buying the 3 earlier Ketron models. Then the SD4, the SD, and SD Plus, and MidJay, and the MidJay Plus; and the midi bass pedals and switches. I would have saved not only all that money, but my skill level with the vArranger would have been so much higher, instead of all the time spent learning the new Ketron equipment every couple of years when something new would come out. The beauty of the vArranger being a software program installed in your laptop, all the upgrades don't have to be repackaged and sold as a new vArranger model, like the Ketron modules and keyboards. Not to mention having to endure all the bugs in the new Ketron equipment. And, not to mention poor, poor, poor support from Ketron. All the support help came from Bob and the Solton Club.

And then, to be assured that all your concerns are actually read by Dan the DEVELOPER; and if not answered by other vArranger owners, then the DEVELOPER will personally answer your questions; and even log into your computer to fix an issue.

On top of that, the pure joy in playing and controlling the vArranger is something every musician should experience at least once, whether with a keyboard or guitar.

 Thanks Lionel,

Sounds like a match made in heaven having your wife right there with you on stage.

If your wife is controlling the chords of the vArranger, is she using a midi foot controller to start and end each style?

What control do you have over the vArranger with your Godin? Are you playing the synth sounds and presets of the GR120 along with the voices of the vArranger?

Thanks,

John

#111
Hey Lionel,

How much are you using the vArranger playing just styles? And how much using Song Chords? Are you using markers when you play the song chords?

What midi foot controller are you using and how many vArranger controllers have you assigned to it?

How long does it take you to set up ready to play?

Could you list all the equipment you use?

I would love to watch you play a style or song chord. Have you ever posted anything using the Godin with the vArranger?

Thank you Lionel,

John

Bon Jour Lionel,

You surely have, a unique and highly skilled way of posing a question to Dan. It's amazing how you can change a no into a yes, and do it in only 6 days!

Merci

John

I see that you play the Godin midi guitar. I would really enjoy seeing your set up with the midi guitar and the vArranger.

Thanks

And thank you too Dan for this gift of changing time signatures within SONG CHORDS.

Dan, I was able to connect in Win7 with my MacBook Pro and Ipad with Air Display2 using my router.

Elliot from Air Display suggested that something like a firewall might be blocking the signal. It turned out that Windows 7 and Norton anti virus both had firewalls up. We disabled the Windows 7 and kept the Norton. But I had to connect using the IP address under OTHER. At this point I only have a mirror image. Maybe if I blocked the Norton I could connect with CONNECT instead of OTHER.

Eventually I want to compare the Air Display with the Splashtop, and find out which one would give the best results between the ipad and the MacBook.

Thanks,

John

Thanks Dan,

My spacebar in Options/Controllers was using PC Key number 32 under Controlled by PC Keyboard. I clicked on NO PC CONTROL, like you said, and instantly was able to use my spacebar in typing text for Lyrics.

I was trying to use the Drum Mixer while connected to the vArranger Synth with the SD 2 not being connected. That was my problem. As soon as I connected the SD2 back, I had control of the Drum Mixer.

I was set up ready to play at the restaurant Sunday afternoon, and checked my cell phone to see if I had an e mail from you before I started. As I listened to the SD2, everything sounded "strange." And then I remembered last night I had unchecked the SD2 and checked the GM2 in Options/Midi OUT. If it hadn't been for your email, I would not have thought to see if the SD2 was checked in the Midi OUT box, and I wouldn't have been able to play Sunday.

Merci,

John

Yes, I use the SD2.

I experimented disabled SD2 for GM2, and that allowed me to use my space bar on my laptop. Before I couldn't type using the space bar. But after switching SD2 for GM2, the space bar is working. I could use the space bar in a SONG search, but not entering text after pushing LYRICS.

In vArranger with lyrics I couldn't type in any text because of the space bar issue, but now with GM2 engaged the space bar is working with typing in lyrics.

However, I still have the issue with not being able to control the volume in the Drum Mixer. I can control the volume levels from 0-120 with no problem but it has no effect on the actual volume level of the sound.

Thanks Dan,

John
Midi Options in vArranger, I'm using NONE, vArranger synth, SD2, and asio4; and I'm using the laptop by itself.
#116
In the Drums sound edit channel,

then the Drum Mixer, I have no volume control over the drum parts: bass, snare, hi-hat, etc.

I can only control the overall volume of the drums from the main vArranger screen after I have exited out of the Drum mixer.

Thanks for your help,

John

In SONG CHORDS is it possible to change a 4/4 measure into a 2/4 measure, and then change it back to 4/4?

Thanks

John

Dan, are you using a router when you're playing live but there's no internet, to connect your surface pro, ipad and Splashtop? If so, which router are you taking with you to a gig?

I'm still trying to CONNECT with Air Display on windows, (since I've already purchased the app), but keep getting the error message "could not connect - Air Display could not communicate with the display device." On the Mac side, I have no problem CONNECTING with Air Display. The cursor works on both the Mac and the iPad, and I can drag and drop back and forth from the mac to the iPad.

Splashtop Extended Display 2 Free keeps prompting me to buy the full version because the 5 minute time limit keeps expiring before I can try it out.

I'll get back to Splashtop after Air Display is working on the Windows side.

Thanks,

John
#119
On the iPad, Splashtop free is prompting me for "enter security code you may later save it under computer settings."

what security code are they asking for?

John

Yes, the iPad and the mac both share the same wireless internet connection. But when I'm playing live, I won't always have an internet connection like I have here at my home. And Elliott from Avatron warned me about the unstable condition of air display with windows using the ad-hoc network when there is no internet connection. So I'm leery of using the air display app with windows 7 with the ad-hoc network.

I have tried another app :
Splashtop Extended Wireless Display 2 Free

It works very well to use my iPad or Android tablet as a second monitor for my windows laptop, and it can be used as a touch screen too !
The scores are well displayed on the iPad when I load my songs.

One big problem : We need to install a program on the PC called "streamer", but on my laptop it take almost 100% of CPU !
I have read that here is a trick to lower the refresh rate of the screen in the windows registry..

Does your splashtop extended wireless display app allow you to use your iPad as a monitor when there is no internet connection?

Thanks,

John

Dan I've installed the air display to the Mac software. Ran the air display on the ipad. Then ran air display on the Mac. Then clicked on connect and had mirror image of of the Mac desktop on the ipad. My wireless remote mouse could move between the two screens and could control both the ipad and the Mac.

But, am having issues doing the same thing with the windows side. When I click on connect, I get the error message "could not connect. Air display could not communicate with the display device.

I tried clicking on "other" and was prompted for the address that was on the screen of the ipad. When I typed in the address on the Mac and clicked enter, the windows screen froze. The ipad screen had an animated hand drawing boxes, and I could hear audio from Fox News. I'm still experimenting with windows.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

John

Dan,

Avatron tech support explained that the iPad and the air display 2 can communicate with each other without an internet connection by creating an AD-HOC network, which is a wireless network created by my computer. And this signal allows the iPad to communicate wirelessly with the mac -without an internet connect.

Avatron also said that ad hoc networks are "notoriously" unstable on windows.

How will all this affect vArranger if I use the iPad as a monitor to the win side of the mac.

By the way, Any mac under 10.7 won't work with air display 2. My Mac was 10.6.8, but Apple was kind enough to offer a free upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Maverick 10.9.

Thanks,

John

Hello,

Thank you for the inquiry regarding Air Display. Air Display 2 requires 10.7 or higher, so you'd only be able to use it on the Windows 7 partition of your Mac. As for your other questions, it does require a wifi network. Both your computer and iPad must be on the same subnet of a local wifi network in order to use Air Display.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello,

An ad-hoc network is a wireless network created by your computer. It uses the wireless card in the computer to broadcast a wireless network that your iOS device can join. So, you'd need to do that in order to use Air Display some place where you didn't have an internet connection. Air Display still requires a wireless network, but you don't necessarily need an internet connection. To warn you though, ad-hoc networks on Windows are notoriously unstable.

Some wireless networks can have different subnets. Meaning different sub-networks of the main network connection. Having multiple subnets is usually just something done at large company networks.

Hi Dan,

I wonder if the AIR DISPLAY 2 app would be better for you than the Splashtop Extended Wireless Display?

The Air Display 2 can be used to connect the host computer with the client both wirelessly, and when there is no wireless connection.

Hopefully, the Air Display 2 would consume less CPU on your computer than the Splashtop app.

I've down loaded the Air Display 2 to my ipad air, and the free drivers to windows 7 side of my mac, but need a little more time to: "launch air display on your extra screen device (ipad), then connect in the air display menu on your computer."

Thanks,

John

Thank you Dan for your willingness to always be looking for ways to make the vArranger even better.

When Song Chords finishes playing a song, it doesn't automatically go to the beginning of the next Song Chord that I choose, before I actually press the START of that song.

When I'm running the vArranger with my Disaster Area midi foot controller, It's awkward to have to always touch my computer to accomplish this.

So when I call up a new Song Chord, using the midi foot controller I want the Song Chord to show the beginning of the next song on the vArranger screen.

I know that if I start the Song Chord it automatically jumps to the beginning of the next Song chord. But, I need to see the beginning of the next Song Chord on the vArranger screen before I actually push the start for the next Song Chord to play.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

John

Hello Dan,

Welcome back.

I went ahead & ordered the ipad air, which comes with a retina display. It will be here tomorrow.

The Air Display 2 App, for $9.99, allows the ipad to be used as a monitor to my macBook.

I can hardly wait to step into the world of entering a Song Chord on vArranger in Windows 7 on my Mac, and at the same time see the lyrics and scores pop up on the ipad air.

Thanks,

John

Bon jour LYLO,,

The iPad retina with the app Air display 2 runs on both windows and
Mac

Hi Dennis and Lylo,

Forgive me if I'm using this post incorrectly.

I've got to get rid of my MusicPad Pro where all my lyrics and music reside.

I'm ready to buy the ipad 4th generation with retina display wifi/16GB ($399.00 through Apple's website) and use that for my monitor to replace the Music Pad Pro. Apple said today that they have stopped making the i pad 2. And I don't need the i pad air.

The lightening cable comes with the ipad, & that goes from the ipad directly into the USB port, and the ipad gets its power from the powered USB hub.

And with the Ipad app "AIR DISPLAY 2",($9.99 through Itunes) this ipad will function as a monitor to my MacBook Pro.

My question is  Can the vArranger be set up to automatically load ONLY the lyrics chords and music notes onto the ipad monitor every time I enter a SONG CHORD, while the vArranger would be running by itself on the Windows side of my MacBook?

Much obliged,

John
#129
I agree, he is surely deserving a well earned vacation. It might be the only sleep he'll get all year.

I've got Windows 7 partitioned on my Mack Book HD, and I run vArranger from there.

Thanks for the input,

John
#130
Specifically, can someone assure me that the vArranger can automatically load the lyrics and music scores onto the i-pad monitor every time I enter a SONG CHORD name, and "ONLY" display those lyrics or music notes on to the i-pad monitor and not on the laptop?

Many thanks,

John

#131
Thanks Juan,

I checked out the CE-FCC-ROH-LCD 10.1" monitor, great price.

I've decided to spend the extra money, $399.00, and go with the ipad 4th generation retina display w/wi-fi and 16GB.

With the ipad app AIR DISPLAY 2, for $9.99, it allows the ipad to be used as a monitor for the Mac Book, also works on Windows as well.

Can someone assure me before I order the ipad that it is compatible with the vArranger2?

Thanks,

John
#132
I'm using a 13" MacBook Pro 10.6 Snow Leopard, w/ Windows 7 partitioned on the HD, to display vArranger.

I need a separate monitor to view musical score notes, lyrics and chords. The distance between my eyes and the monitor is about 24".

Could someone please tell me what light weight 10" monitor would you recommend that could be adapted to a mike stand , and if it's usb powered or AC plug in?

Should I to stay with Apple, or is Android a possibility?

Thanks for your help,

John

Lylo, thanks for posting the songs with video. It was superb. Very tasteful the way you used the voices with the flute at the end. It totally fooled me. I couldn't figure how the sax player could switch from sax to flute so fast. All three of you complement each other musically.

Your tutorials on you tube on how to use the Song Chords in vArranger has helped a lot, and hearing and seeing you play live is inspirational.

Merci,

John
#134
Thank you Dan,

For adding that ASSOCIATE SHEET MUSIC feature in your new upgrade. That is really going to save me a lot of time adding music scores to SONG CHORDS.

And many thanks for all the time that you spent helping me on the computer today, and I know how valuable your time is.

Another lion has just roared again,

John

Rhhooooo Tidom,

C'est vrai, Lylo c'est le roi du tuto.

And he even makes me feel like a roi because he takes so much  of his time to help me, along with everyone else.

Merci,

John
#136
Thank you Lylo for that wonderful arrangement that you created. Where can I find the music for Le Flots du Danube with just the lead melody written out like in your You Tube video?

Merci beaucoup

John
#137
I wonder how that analog synth lead sound you played on Summertime, from Applied Acoustic Sessions, would sound on my Triple Play midi guitar?

Thanks,

John

PS Do you have any You Tube videos of you playing? I would enjoy watching you play with your set up.
#138
Lylo, Those arrangements are awesome. I would really enjoy playing both of them. Was that you playing the synth lead on summertime? It put a smile on my face.

But, you know the one I still like the best is the Le Flots Du. I can't get that sound and melody and arrangement out of my head. Please let me know how I could acquire that arrangement and music. I liked the way you use the variation endings for just one bar in many places. I see what you mean about the future of vArranger looks good!

Thank you,

John
#139
Now, thank the good Lord, I've got the score folder, with Forever in love 1 & 2, moved into the vArranger Data Folder with: score, sounds, styles, styles ROM, vArranger2.

When I open up styles 1 and scroll down to the folder named Mary's Songs, I find Forever in Love Song Chord PopGtrBallad T108 prs2.

I already have created a score folder and have inside Forever in love kennyg 1 and Forever in love kennyg 2.

How do I now get the "score" folder close to the Song Chord Style for Forever in love found in Mary's Song Folder?

Lylo, how did you split the screen the way you did with the Styles Rom1 showing on the left side, and all your .pat2, jpeg, mp3, etc showing on the right side?

Thanks,

John
#140
From the vArranger: LOAD, SCORE FOLDER, Forever in love kennyg 1 and Forever in love kennyg 2, I double click on either file and it shows up on screen in Varranger.

Problem is the score folder is located in: libraries-pictures-slide shows-score Forever in love 1 & 2. I'm not able to move the score folder to sounds, styles, styles rom.

Is there supposed to be a separate score folder for each song?

Lylo, that was a great idea with the moving cursor, I'm trying...

John
#141
Dan, I've scanned 2 documents, 2 pages of:  Forever In Love Kenny G 3.jpeg
Forever In Love Kenny G 4.jpeg

I've saved them to my Documents folder. What are the next steps so that vArranger will immediately display the score when I load the style?

Also, am I allowed to list my MidJay Plus for sale on the vArranger website, and some other items?

That 4shared.com/video. was awesome Lylo, that's what I'd like to achieve.

Dennis, (sorry I've been calling you Pax, I thought that was your name) I've got an old Music Pad Pro with all of my music and lyrics saved to .fh, which is the FreeHand format that MusicPad Pro uses. The sad thing is that .fh Free Hand can't be converted to a pdf or jpeg file. So I'm stuck with over 500 songs in a file format that I can't convert. Not to mention Freehand has gone out of business.

Are you using the Surface Pro for vArranger, and the i-Pad for your lyrics? Is the screen large enough for lyrics and scores?

Thank you all, merci

John

#142
Thanks Pax, for all that useful input. I'll be playing around with it and hopefully, figure out how to ultimately be able to pull up my Song Chords and instantly load the PDF file with lyrics, sheet music or a score of my own making. This is something that I've never done, but thanks to you and this wonderful vArranger blog, I'm slowly learning.

John

#143
Pax, I'm beginning to see what you mean, I think. If I want to load sheet music into the vArranger I would save it into a pdf file first. Then copy that pdf file into vArranger. Then the vArranger pdf plug in viewer would load and view that file within Song Chords. Is that what you're saying?

What is the easiest program that you know of that would allow me to either scan or download sheet music into a pdf file; or, write out my own score on manuscript paper and input the notes on the staff and place the chords above the notes, then save it to a pdf file.

Thanks,

John
#144
Lylo, did you create and write out all the notes of your score from scratch, or is  it a sheet music score that you have copied into vArranger?

The reason I'm asking is because along with guitar I play soprano and alto sax. So if I'm playing a Kenny G song I need to either write out the entire song note for note, or copy the sheet music. I've found that by writing out the song myself I can get more on the screen than if I scan the sheet music.

When I see your score with the melody notes on the staff lines and guitar chords above the staff lines, and your able to get 13 staff lines to show next to the SONG CHORDS in vArranger, that is exactly what I've been looking for. I have Sibelius but could never get it to look like your score, and I experienced difficulty using the program.

Thanks again for your help in walking me through the steps of how I can write out a Kenny G song to look like the score in your You Tube Video. What program do you use to create your score, and do you use the vArranger PDF file to convert your scores to the jpeg format.

John

#145
Thanks Pax for posting the vArranger PDF.

And thank you Lylo for the beautiful music you created using vArranger.

I've copied and LOADED the vArranger plugin into vArranger 1.17, and when I opened the file I get the notice "VARRANGER PDF PLUG IN WAS SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED". That was as far as I could go.

Lylo, Could you please list the steps you use to create your 13 staff line score that was shown in Your You Tube Video, next to the Song Chords in vArranger.

Thank you,

John
#147
Thanks Pax,

How do I get it and what does it cost?,

John
#148
Can someone please help me find the program that Azerlylo used to display the score in this format showing the written chords above the notes in the staves positioned next to the SONG CHORDS in vArranger2.

Many thanks,

John

I saw one post on the soltonclub on Yahoo who purchased the gigastylecollection two years ago, and he said that half of the styles were useless and the others were useable. But no mention of a lack of style quality.

With "STYLE QUALITY" do you mean that if I listen to, for example, the Ketron COUNTRY POP style that came preloaded with the vArranger, and listen to the same COUNTRY POP style that I had downloaded to vArranger from my MidJay Plus; and then listen to that same COUNTRY POP style that I downloaded from the GIGASTYLECOLLECTION into the vArranger: that the quality of the COUNTRY POP from the GIGASTYLECOLLECTION won't sound as good?

Thanks,

John
#150
My concern is about the old styles I'm using with song chords have style header errors on vArranger, even though they all play and sound great with vArranger.

I was looking for one source for all my styles that would be more compatible with vArranger, like from the gigastylecollection; that has the ability to group the styles according to time signature, musical genre, tempo. And I could download up to 100 styles into a vArranger folder at one time.

But when you said you're not sure about the styles quality, I guess I won't know unless I order the gigastylecollection and try it.

I'll keep you posted on the quality after trying it.

Thanks,

John
