Ok food for thought and comments.  Currently using Varranger playing primarily Yamaha styles through a Yamaha MU80 XG module, technology from the 90's.  I am embarking of the possibility of making a sound module using the guts of a Yamaha PSR 383 , 2024 vintage, to take advantage of updated panel voices and newer DSP. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether there might be any sonic improvement of the style voices being reproduced by the newer PSR383 technology  or will I just be getting the same xg voices that are within the MU80.  I have been testing with both and the 383 does seem to have more presence than the older technology. 

Thanks and agree makes no sense for using VA if having a Genos at my fingertips.  What I didnt mention is that I have a Roland AT800 that is my midi controller for VA.  Was almost thinking about a used Psr S and remake it into a desk module, no keybed or speakers.  It is more of the challenge to build something than really needing another keyboard just for better style playing.  To bad Yamaha never made arranger module like BK7M.  Thanks

I am sure this will sound a bit crazy to most.  I am currently using the Varranger2 software program to play Yamaha styles using a MU80 XG module as the sound generator.   For the most part it plays well when using SFF type styles but with the more modern SSF2 styles the module does not incorporate compatible voices in many cases.   I am thinking of using a newer PSR S or SX type keyboard as the sound source.  My question is are the Yamaha styles interchangeable between keyboards of different ages, i.e. will styles from a PSR S700 play properly on a new SX type.  I have looked at the voice data manual and it looks like that in some cases the midi program change numbers for the same sound can be different, which makes me think the incorrect voice may be selected within the style being used. I know the proper INS file needs to be selected for the Varranger, just not sure how it affects voices when using older style files.   Hope I have explained this in a somewhat understandable manner.  TIA

Can anyone advise how to adjust the latency when using the MS GS Wavetable synth option?  I have ASIO4all driver installed on the tablet but ver 1.16 does not seem to recognize it when opening the options/midiport menu.  It only shows the MS GS wavetable synth or a hard wired midi interface. The ASIO driver is recognized when using other VST apps so I know it is working.   THanks

Hello all,  a newbie to the group so forgive me if this is a redundant question.  I am currently using my Yamaha PSR SX700 as the sound source for Varranger2 driven with MS Surface Pro Tablet.  I use it in XG mode and it sounds really great,  better than the tablet internal sounds and and an old Edirol SD20 module that I have had laying around.  But for me this is a bit of money wasted and would like to get a good quality sound module that will sound as good as the SX700.  Would the Motif rack be the right way to go, or perhaps Roland Integra.  Or would a Yamaha MU series XG module be adequate.   And will they be as compatible and sound as good as the PSR has been.  Thanks for your input.
