3 things I would like to be improved

Hallo Dan,
vArranger is great tool, but there are some things I would like to be improved.

1) Key down only chord detection
I noticed that real Yamaha keyboards analyse chords after key is pressed.
If you only release a key - it has not effect to actually played chord.

For example:
I press keys C,E,G  - chord C start playing
I release keys C and G and leave key E - the chord C is not changed
I tried it on vArranger - the last step will change the chord to E

Could you add this as optional value?
"Key down only chord detection" for example checkbox in the OPTIONS - Behavior window.

2) Harmony function
Current harmony is not much applicable for me.
I am used to harmony function in Yamaha keyboards.
This is depended only on the melody and chord, not on the key.
Nevertheless this sounds good.
I made a Yamaha standard duet table for you.
Could you add this to the vArranger please?

3) Inversions of diminished triad chords
When I press keys C D# A
on Yamaha keyboard it is detected as Adim
on vArranger it is detected as Cdim7

When I press keys C F# A
on Yamaha keyboard it is detected as F#dim
on vArranger it is detected as Cdim7

And similarly:
When I press keys C F# A C
on Yamaha keyboard it is detected as F#dim/C
on vArranger it is detected as Cdim7

Thank you in advance for your answer.

Best regards

1) have you press the "hold" button ?

v.muller

To Lylo
No no - Hold button means something like the Yamaha's Synchro Stop function but for chords only.

What I want is:
When I press keys C E G - it play chord C.
Then, when I release C and G it plays chord E.
Yamaha's keyboard plays still chord C.

Lylo

Perhaps it's because is Ketron system for chords recognition.

Igor Electronician

Hello Lylo.

I would very much like to see a table "Chord Types Recognized in the Fingered Mode" for Ketron. None of user manual for synthesizers Ketron did not see such information.

v.muller

I'm not sure if I explained it well.
I'll give an other example:

Transition from chord Am (keys E+A+C) to chord Em (keys E+G+B)

On Yamaha keyboard I can leave the key E pressed
and release only keys A and C.
Then I press keys G and B and the chord will changed to Em.

Problem is, that vArranger play Chord E (major) once I release the keys A and C.
Yamaha's keyboards change chords only when keys are pressed.
Only releasing of keys doesn't mean change the chord.

Right v.muller . With Ketron you can choose with "chord mode : easy 1"or other chord mode and it work same as other keyboards(Yamaha ,Roland , Korg).

Dan

Hello v.muller,

I have just sent you a new version.

What has changed :

1) vArranger no more change the chords when you remove some fingers, as you asked.
This was a long story. First it was there, and then it was removed, then it was added again, and now removed again :)
Some people like to go from a Dm (D F A) to F (F A) by just removing the D.
To not hurt those people, the option is still possible, but you need to write in the vArranger2.ini file
[Custom]
ChordRelease=1
I finally decided that the default mode of vArranger will be to not change the chord when you remove a finger, because it require a more precise playing, that not everyone has

2) The dim chord recognition are now like you want when played inverted

I still need to think more about the harmony duet mode.

Enjoy

Dan

v.muller

Hello Dan

I would like to ask you about two more things:

4)
Could you show voice list and style list after program start.
Last used style and voice.

5)
Default setting of octave plays 1 octave down.
When I press key of middle c (midi note 60), it plays as midi note (48).
So I must set octave to 1.

Dan

5) It should not. Maybe you have set a different octave in your SOUND EDIT?
You can also change the main octave and then SAVE STARTUP CONFIG

v.muller

Setting of cotave to +1 and saving solve the problem.
I just don't understand why it must be +1.

So I did an attempt.
I set the MIDI OUT to loopMIDI Port.
And run the MIDI-OX and set both (my keyboard + loopMIDI Port) as input devices.

Here is the result.
90 3C 2C is sent to the vArranger
9C 30 2C is the vArranger's output

the first value is channel - understand that vArranger change it to the 13 channel
3C is the midi note and it is changed to 30  (12 semitones below)

I check the sound edit for the right hand (channel 13)
here is the octave 0
So I set here the value +1 and now it plays and looks (on the main window) good.

Dan

When you play in Split mode, vArranger set the octave - 1
If you play in FULL KEYBOARD mode, it will be normal.
The reason is that, when the keyboard is splited, the left hand takes a big part of the low notes, and most of the time, we still want to access to the notes bellow the center C that are important.

v.muller

In that case - I understand.
Yamaha keyboards don't make this automatic change of octave.

Dan

v.muller

I apologize for the revival of  a 2 year old post.

I think it is the same on Yamaha kb

Hi Dan
None of the Yamaha keyboard I've ever played do this automatic change of octave.
But this could be easily solved using Right1 - Sound Edit.

What about my 4th item?

4)
Could you show voice list and style list after program start.
Last used style and voice.
