Do not get in a hurry for this feature  I am not sure what controller I am going to use, I really want to use an 88 key piano with good piano feel but I might be forced to use a yamaha 63 key arranger and the pitch bend is a non issue because it has onboard pitch bend.  I may look for a 76 or 88 key controller with pitch bend and weighted keys, if anyone has a suggestion please let me know

 I appreciate the fast response, is this new version currently available or soon to be released?  I have the one where it has the Genos sound font and it's great very good sound from small package, I dont know how as I cant get my unit hooked up for a few days but im sure I was getting pitch bend  but that was controlling it with  a PSR 460  so the pitch bend must have to come from inside the varranger itself is that correct?

I have a great Korg full weighted keys piano that I want to use with Varranger but sadly it does not have pitch bend.
 I also have an Akai MPK Mini.
My question is am I able to replace the Korg nano ( and PC Keyboard) control which works great for changing settings on
Varranger  with the Akai MPK

Can I use the MPK Mini as a control changer same as the Korg nano . I do not want any melody notes.
I want to assign different keys to start/stop/,  variation  A,B,C,D etc,  also the Mpk has a pitch bender which would allow me to have only one unit to make changes to the Varranger and also get pitch bend.


If this can be done I would also like to save all my settings for the Korg Nano and able to reload these settings and also save the settings for the Akai MPK  and able to recall all those settings.

I'm asking this before I go and blow all my Korg Nano settings

Hello Everyone.  I'd like to know if anyone has success or problems with using a micro SD card for the Varranger program
I have limited usb ports on my laptop and then have to use a usb hub. It just makes it so complicated and bulky to use.

I have an SD card reader on laptop and see that short stubby SD mini adaptors are available.  This would free up my usb port. 

I also could get the program to reside directly on the laptop  my question is if my laptop fails is this program totally lost and would I have to buy another program.

What about the widi adapter. Does it have the ability to connect to the laptop with Bluetooth?

I have 2 usb ports and need to hook keyboard and Korg nano
If anyone has another solution of getting these two hooked into the laptop without using a hub I'm all ears.

Varranger is an amazing program with the sounds coming from the new VST but I play short shows and have limited setup time so I'm searching for all ways to get it as compact as possible

I did get the pedal working , I understand what you meant now.  Because I wish some functions to be controlled by both systems ( computer keyboard  and Nano controller and foot pedal ) which as you said can not be done unless merged  I am opting to build my own PC keyboard Based footswitch. using an old Dell SK8115 usb PC keyboard

Yes that is exactly what I did
Assign #2  Nano Controller with Led Feedback   
( this configuration works great  and can see midi input signals on the #2 port of the 4 shown at very top of varranger )


Assign #3 Behringer Foot controller which is coming through port input A in my midisport 2x2
( this configuration does not work but I can see midi input information coming through on midi 3 at top of screen)

I then reverse as follows

#2  Behringer foot controller is assigned to input A on midisport 2x2
( This configuration works and can see midi information coming in on input 2 on top of screen

#3  Nano Controller with Led Feedback   
( this configuration DOES NOT WORK now  also can see  midi input signals on the #3 port of the 4 shown at very top of varranger )

So what ever is in #2 seems to work   whatever is in #3 does not work    although Midi information on # 2 and 3 sow in the indicator at top of Varranger page.

Hello Dan   I have Nano controller to control and works great I also have new Berhinger fcb 1010 foot controller with standard midi outs to my midi interface and either work as needed if they are selected as 2nd input device. when either of these devices is set as the 3rd input device it will not work 
eg input 1 is my keyboard ( works as required )
input 2 is nano control with LED feedback ( works as required )
input 3 is  behringer for pedal    does not work

switch the #2 and #3 around and then the Behringer works as required and korg does not work.   Is there a special way to instal these.   

When pressing on the button as the 3rd input I can see midi info being sent in the top line midi input signal lights on the varranger screen at the proper input 3

Hello. I know Gerard posted the info on the Beringer 1010 back in 2012  I'm wondering if there have been others using the Beringer pedal along with Varranger and success rate 
I have my Beringer on order and anxiously await its arrival

I would like the pedal to operate about 8 functions without having to page up or down to presets also to use the volume pedals for global volume and style volume

Im playing guitar with the OMB guitars midi chord control do need  foot pedal ability.  I have a korg nano control which does a good amount of controls I need but not  foot switch friendly.

Dan I read somewhere in a thread that you may have a lead on a foot switch unit controller.  I already have the 3 button pc controller but 3 is not enough

Up and  running and seems OK.
a few questions please

In the loop function   when recording into the loop is it possible to see the chords in a playback view similar to Options/ song chords.   when i am playing loop if I open song chords I can see the curser moving through empty song chord boxes.  I use a   program called strum machine and is very helpfull to see the chord changes  especially when others are also playing along.

In my sounds bar, I have lost all of my sounds , the correct number of boxes are there but the sounds are not registered in them, is there a place to go to retrieve  them or reset them?

When I first opened up 1.19 there were CPU resource listed at top of program, it's not there now. I know it's not important but I thought it might help to see how computer is running. is there a box to check to see the computer resources

I messaged you through the varranger website but don't know if you seen it.
I have lost my varranger files, recovered the 1.17 but lost the 1.18   can you reissue the 1.18? I don't mind paying the 50 euro for upgrade as I know development of the new software involves a lot of time on your part.
I'm also interested in hearing how people have made a redundancy program in case of USB key failure.  what is the best way to not be totally reliant on a small key that can fail.

If I get the Varranger  to view properly on my screen instead of in the corner,  Are the tempo change events visible in the style editor in my version of varranger ?
Just wondering if I should invest a lot of effort into getting the screen issue fixed only to find that there are no tempo events to view.

Is there a tempo setting in the style mixer or is tempo saved when saving song

Also is there a way to set a different tempo for each variation  ABCD  of a style ?  I'm sure there isn't but I thought I'd ask

When I open style mixer it opens but everything is crammed into top left hand side of screen     Can't seem to get it to expand to show individual detail. Clicked all and it just makes more all across page

I finally got my OMB guitar up and running  any other tips you might have regarding operation of the guitar into the varranger  , mine seems to work well, much better than the ipad apps.    where do you reset the velocity change you mentioned?
Have you done any shows with it and is it stable with varranger

Can Varranger boot to non full screen mode, In windows you have 3 choices , minimized  smaller screen  and then full screen .  I would like to run in the smaller screen mode so the windows menu bar runs under the varranger program as  I have a usb footswaitch that I can assign to click at different areas of the screen , I would like to assign the footswatch to press the fill in break button  and start stop button. The usb program will not run when Varranger is in Full screen mode.
Also I'm running v 1.18, is there any significant changes in the latest version, please point to a list if possible , I did try searching but no info came up.

I have an unusual request, is it possible to reassign  the incoming midi notes, for example    the midi keyboard would play C but the varranger would play E . This is not a transposable function as
I am making a keyboard that I can face directly opposite a real piano  ( Keys would be 1/8 inch apart tip to tip )   When doing this the keys end up being a mirror image of each other  but the notes are different.
I would like the ability to play a real piano but have the varranger to provide  the drums , bass and rhythm. The electronic keyboard would only use 1 1/2 octave and would start at E2 and go down

I can unsolder the connections on the electronic keyboard to accomplish the note reassignment but I thought I would ask if the varranger  software would be capable of this reassignment.

If someone has another portable solution to being able to use Varranger with a real piano and  in no way attach anything to the real piano's keys I would be interested in hearing about it.

Please explain default level for style and is there a way to change it one time so that all styles are at 80?  right now mine jump to 127 for any style that I chose that has not been saved under my songs. 


  127 is fine but leaves no room for moving louder in live situation. except moving each individual sound in the rythme section, that is not acceptable way to perform! I need ability to creep style volume slider on NANO up or down as needed.

Hello Dan , I have done that with my sounds piano #1, so in my case here is my reason for wanting a piano as second sound.    Your program is incredible and this along with the good sounds of the SD 1000 makes it very powerful, There is not enough room or to create my songs for all available 1st RH  sounds that I may want to use.

I do not want to have isolated sounds, for me and my style of playing  I wish to have primary sound on #1 that I will be changing from sax to organ  and anything that suits, but I will always layer  in the backround a piano sound, this will be brought in to fatten the main sound or augment the main sound. I f I wish to solo with the main sound I hit the 2nd sound button and piano is quiet when I want piano in backround again I hit 2nd sound button.    If I change 1st RH to another sound  that sound has to be programed and saved so in order for me to access all the available sounds in the SD1000 I have to make and save every sound with save  feature , this is a huge task.    also if I do as you described I cannot get to my blended volume settings that I may have had a minute before because Main RH sound will be at different volume for sax  compared to piano that I immediately need.

If it is not possible to change default boot sound please just say not able to change that function!!!    but I see it as something is telling it presently to boot to strings , it should be able to tell it to boot to piano. I apologize for being persistent on this subject but it is important for me to progress with this program.

I don't know if you had seen my request for answer to assigned sound per RH #2 on bootup of the program but mine defaults to a string, I would like it to boot to a piano.
 
Is there a setting that allows it to boot to a specified sound. I realize you mentioned that I can change that sound and save it and I know how that function works.
I'm trying to minimize the amount of presets that  must be created and if 2nd RH sound was a default piano it would save me a huge amount of time and searching for sounds during playing.

Is it possible to have 2 korg nano control units. The one I have works great but all the assignments are full  or is there another solution for quick control over functions, not so much as sliders , more for single function button controls.

#2   yes I have found where to assign voices and save as you described, works great.    I just felt it would be easier to have the 2 nd sound default on start  to a piano all the time, for me this would seem to save me some steps and I always would know that I have quick access to a piano ( quick slide dwn on primary RH sound and hit button for 2nd sound on with my nano control.)  If I have primary RH sound as Sax for ex               

The whiring sound is coming from the output of the SD1000  it starts 1/2second after last note is played to the SD1000

Is there a way to set the voice for the 2nd right hand, right now mine boots up with a quartet strings sound, I've found where to toggle the on off on startup but I would like to assign RH 2nd to a piano and then I can easily hit the nanokontrol assignment I have for turn on RH 2nd voice.

Also this is more of A ketron question but has anyone had an experience with the SD1000 emitting a faint rising and falling sound , almost sounds like a motorcycle speeding up and slowing down constantly, it's faint but very annoying.

#1   Is there a way to have the lyrics for a song automatically pop up when a MP3 is selected?    I have a different program and the way the lyrics are brought in at the same time as the MP3 is that both files have to have the same name but the type of files are different one is .mp3 and the other is . (it's a proprietary file)

sorry for all the questions but I've decided to buckle down and learn and streamline Varranger so that I can use it.

#1 I've found the search feature but only get styles and patterns, how do I get it to search the folder where the midi files are or do I have to move the .mid files into a special folder?

#2 I found the answer to this problem , it was the link feature ( I'm using a different laptop , small mini touch screen and could hardly see the link button )

Dan I would like something similar to the OTS on the yamaha keyboards or 4 registrations for the right hand at least where you could assign   style , tempo  and 4 variations of voices with volumes set, I realize there is the save song feature that saves whatever is selected in the dropdown but I do not know how to play and sing and try to dig into  the song retrieval menu and select another song/style  with only such a slight variation.( for example the accordion slightly louder and a sax coming in the back round on #2 registration, and number 3 registration could be a clarinet also layered on top and so on  ) that's only an example of what is requested, also if I make 4 songs/ styles for each basic rhythm selection, the list would be terribly long.

   I get exited about using you program every couple of years and really try to learn the system and try to make it work for my gigs but then get frustrated with it and go back to the yamaha psr keyboard because of the ability to simply be a player and not a programmer.   
Dan Your program is wonderful, it has so many features, it just is difficult to work with, perhaps if there is someone out there gigging and has a smooth system for picking styles with variations for voices , I would love to see a video.   
Also a quick access button to get to the midi files button as I use a lot of midi files  when I play the guitar.   I'm using the korg nano controller.   perhaps it's already there , I just have not found it.

If this guitar setup would work with varranger I would be very happy     YT has some demo videos working with the Ketron stand alone units (midi jay and sd90) but I would prefer to use a PC  with varranger

PS message for Dan.  I have not upgraded varranger software for a while  and see some ideas on here for updating but I do not want to update until I am able to save all the setting and recall registrations similar to psr keyboards.  Is this function coming?

I have that part working OK.

My next  question is when I have all sounds working on my soundbar and everything is doing OK by pressing 1 through 8 on the my soundbar, if I have a second sound that is playing on either the 2nd voice  or  RH 2 they revert back to some other voice , where am I saving it wrong.
My goal is to have nano control message my soundbar 1 through 8 ( works perfectly now ) but would like to have 2nd voice set to  (what ever) and that 2nd voice to stay static )    as of right now 2nd voice changes to a strings every time I press mysoundbar 1 through 8      Also it is the same voice on 2nd voice for all 8 of mysoundbar presets.

previously there are configurations that I made with certain drum rhythm patterns and my sound bar configurations that I would like to change to a current sound bar configuration. Is there a way of getting my current sound bar configuration and dropping it onto the older  complete setup or do I have to go into each  (saved song configuration)  and redrop all the my soundbar sounds into it?

As I said I'm only going to use it as a controller to make the sd1000 into a dedicated keyboard and not as a arranger   But if it works as an arranger  with varranger.  Bonus. 

Has anyone had anything to do with this win 10 tablet running  varranger.    or suggestions on an inexpensive tablet that works well with varranger.

I should also mention it will not be doing a lot of arranger functions but more as the sound selector and interface for the SD1000

I love the retrofit PA900    I would like to do this to my Yamaha psr 3000 or PSR s950.   I love the sd1000 for the sounds but most of my production has been on the PSR keyboard thus a lot of the nuances do not carry through to the sd1000.   have you seen anyone do this for the PSR line , I could even use a  version of the PSR S950 without a keyboard , I would use a keytar.

From what I can gather from watching a few video's on the Hi Lite bar the note signal is sent over blue tooth.   looks like the attached cord is only for power supply. but I'm Going to ask them for sure.
PS  Is there a newer version of Varranger  my version is about 3 years old.

would you be able to build a bar such as the Piano Hi lite for the bottom two octaves of a real  piano, the people at Piano hi lite emailed me today and said that the piano Hi lite is not midi compatable as such , here is the reply

I would like to use the varranger in conjunction with a real piano and I'm looking to only use the styles to add drums and bass to the real accousitic  piano  so I would only need the bootom two octaves to set the chord that's needed.

As I mentioned in my previous email I have a midi module that will do this task  and I bought it off ebay quite some time ago and then added my own switches to use as a foot pedal ( the unit was designed to be used in conjunction with organ style foot pedals.) but this system uses actual switches and on a real paino I think this would be difficult to do , this piano hi lite bare with sensors looks like it might be better , my problem with using apps such as they are suggesting is bad latency , I have had some experience with Irig  and using an external midi keyboard and it is unusable because of latency

If anyone has some other solution for getting varranger towork with a real piano please share your ideas

it says that it can be used as a midi unit and hooked up to a computer.

I think this would be a great addition if it would work to use in  conjunction with an acoustic piano, even if the hi lite would only run the left hand chords.
I have a midi foot pedal that I have been considering converting to a unit similar to the hi lite but my unit would be using physical micro switches.

You had mentioned that the sd1000 had a complicated structure that did not allow control of the leslie effect from Varranger like the SD2 could be controlled.   have you been able to look into this option yet.

No I did not as there were no instructions  regarding what to install first  or replace. It just had links to the exe file and the arranger synth.   
Is there a certain process to replace.
If so could someone outline the steps needed to make the upgrade work.

I downloaded the new varranger2.exe   tried to open from download location ( my old version I use  is on hard drive of computer )
The new file just hung on startup , tried several times , always the same result , have to use control alt delete and sign out to get computer to unhang.

Replaced the old varranger.exe on my usb stick which must be inserted  to run program.
This also hung the same way.

Tried opening the old version program, it opens fine.

awaiting your suggestions
I did not want to delete the old program from internal hard drive for fear the new version will keep hanging.

I've been away from my system for awhile  ( 6 months ) and after running it today everything works fine except it sound muddled and the right and left hand voices seem to  run together, after looking through the settings I notice that every time I change a voice on the right or left hand it sends the effects setting to 127 for the right hand  and about 65 for the left ( there are two little ones at the top of the channel strips   the left   one is the one in question and it says chorus )   if I move the effect down to zero it will stay  there untill I pick another sound voice, then it's back to 127. 

I don't remeber that being all the way  to 127 before .  Is there a way to have it at 20 or 30 for every  sound , I don't want it dry but as I said before everything is sounding muddled , no definition.    I'm pretty sure that it did not do this before as I would not have liked the way it sounded.

I am using a laptop computer with win8 and an sd1000

As soon as I read that I remembered that is how save, I was so fixated on using the Right 1 track to select the sound instead of the far right one , I tried the way you said and it works perfectly.

I was wondering if the reason that the korg is not being seen by the Varranger is in the startup mode of the nanokontrol   there are several ways of starting it when it is to be plugged into the USB port.  what is the proper way to start the nanokontrol so that it can be seen?

I'm trying to settup the Nanokontrol 2 on my asus 8.1 win laptop.   nano  is recognized in the sound and video game devices but it will not show in the list of midi devices on varranger for me to try and set the rest of the unit up. 
Has anyone had experience setting up the nano on their computer that could give me some direction.
