Is it stable?

Does any one have a Cakewalk Instrument Definition ins or Cubase patch script for
the Ketron Event? Also , has any one used it with vArranger?

Yes Dan , Elements VST in vArranger(Win7 x64) can Load the Yamaha Rack XS Editor VST3 plugin
which lets me do layering on Motif Rack XS with the advantage of being able to
select sounds from a Category with more Voices visible at once , plus additional Info
and additional parameters.
There is one issue - I cannot yet get the Midi KB In to be selected in the VST3.
One other very useful feature in the VST3 is to auto-audition the voices in the Voice List.
By creating Layers this way I can set overall volume from just 1 track in vA.
Tried many times using Right 1 , Right 2 , Right 3 and Right 4 each with a voice , volume
Reverb and Chorus set , but when I save a Song(everything ticked including Right/Left hand Sound
and Right/Left hand Volume) strange things happen:
e.g. If R1-4 and 2nd Voice all had different selected voices and if all the Right1-4 +
2nd Voice Volumes were set to say 40 .... after Save\Song\Save All there are changes:
R1 Volume = 127 and 2nd Voice Volume = 60
and the Chorus levels on R1 and 2nd Voice are zeroed.
Also the R1 voice changes from selected voice to Subass , R2 + R3 + R4 voices are cleared and switched off
and the 2nd Voice becomes Viola.
I have attached screenshots showing this.

Thanks for your info - Element standalone works pretty well - even loads Yamaha Motif Rack XS VST3
and communicates with it OK to change voices (which some of the other Hosts are unable to).
Can load Unify VST ok too.
Only problem is that there is a short delay on the Midi out(VST has almost zero Latency).
Have got round that by using Midi Matrix for linking the Keyboard Contoller to Hardware
when using Element standalone
Can get layering of sounds now on both Hardware and VST.
Currently trying Element with Yamaha Motif Rack XS VST3 inside VA to layer
VA right hand sounds using Rack XS.

I'm considering the purchase of StyleMagic YA in order to edit styles.
Is there a way to get StyleMagic YA midi output to work with the
vArranger SoundBanks so I can hear the real time changes made to a style?

Will have to look around for something with 16Gb then.

Have now returned to the original TAL Reverb 4 Plugin v1.2.0.
XP is getting old now!
Will have to look at getting a more modern system with more RAM
and a touchscreen.
How much RAM is ideal for vArranger?

It improved after I went back to Asio4All v2.13.
When I installed the updated vArranger from vArranger2GM2
zip file I used the .ini file from there in case there were settings for Sound Banks.
I forgot that I would have to change setting for Asio back to
Audio OUT LatencyMS=8
Better now.

Using Direct Sound : Realtek HD Audio Output as its more stable.
Ah , when I switch to Asio4All the Reverb is working but not so good audio.

This is on Windows XP SP3 x32 and using 32 bit VSTs.
Noticed there was no reverb with built in reverb ,
so tried uHe Protoverb v1.0 and then latest
TAL-Reverb-4 v2.0.0Beta.
Both Reverb interfaces show ok and I set them both as suggested.
(0% dry and 100% Wet)
No reverb on Sound Bank Voices but reverb ok on Yamaha XG Synth voices.

The Chorus Effect is working OK for the Sound Bank Voices , but
I can't get the Reverb to work.
Tried loading a couple of other Reverbs without suceess , yet
Reverb is working ok for e.g. Yamaha XG Synthesizer.
Should it be working for Sound Bank Voices too?

XF CHORD FORMAT SUPPORT is fantastic news.
Can the XF Chords be read in from a Midi file directly into the Song Chord Window?

Just purchased all 4 Sound Banks today.
Makes a BIG difference - well done to Dan and anyone else involved in creating these.
If anyone else is thinking about getting them - I suggest you go ahead.
Do any Sound Bank Users have Tips/Hints about how to get the most out of them?

Can vArranger use VST3 plugins , specifically Yamaha Motif Rack XS VST?

It would be great if the Drum Mixer could work for other hardware too(e.g. Motif Rack XS)
as with some styles a particular drum part can sound very out of place.
In these occasions a mute or voice switch for a particular note would be so good!
If the mapping is time consuming , would a Mute Voice be quick to implement?

Adding the MIDI CLOCK SYNC IN would be good.

Replaced the v2.14 Asio4All file (asio4all.dll) with the one from v2.13 , and the Audio is now ok.
vAsynth is now 1-3% CPU when idle , 3-5% CPU when playing style.

Checked both these boxes in Reaper - sound is still clear in Reaper/Asio4All

Have attached the Reaper Audio Settings

Same at low volumes too - no problem in other softwares.
I took the style I was using in vArranger and changed .sty to .mid + imported into Reaper with output
to YamahaSynth and Asio4All and a clear sound ok.
As I mentioned ealier , using ReaRoute Asio as vArranger's output and routing that
to Reaper with Asio4All selected as it's Output produces clear sound too.

Using v1.19.01 from 02-11-2018 and the ini file is at
\vArranger2\vArrangerData\vArranger2.ini
Closed down vArranger , edited the value , restarted for all the values suggested.
Distorting for all these settings.
Did an Audio recording inside vArranger and it is OK.
Can't record the distorted audio as the Stero Mix option is greyed out(common problem
with Realtek I notice)

Tried Unchecking  " Always Resample " , no improvement and same for all the
Audio OUT LatencyMS.
Stange thing is the 'ASIO Buffer Size' is set to 512 Samples yet if I hover over the
Aio4All icon in the taskbar it says 264 samples @ 44100 Hz

To test , re-selected None for Midi out with Asio4all as audio out - 3-7% CPU.
Looks like the Asio4All selection causes the vAsynth CPU use, and
could this be the reason for the distorted sound?
Tried altering various things in Asio4All panel , like Buffer size and other options
without any luck.
vArranger2 v1.18.06_30-09-2018/vArrangerSynth v_11-09-2017 has same CPU use
and distortion for vAsynth using Asio4All.
Same for vArranger2 v1.18.02_27-12-2017 and vArranger2 v1.18.01 as well.

   vAsynth not selected for Output
   No VST Instruments or Plugins in use
   
Computer is Desktop with 4Gb Ram + Intel 2 core at 2.67GHz

Audio is built into Gigabyte Motherboard - Realtek Azalia HD Audio
(Tried there old Realtek Asio driver and it was even worse)
   
No controllers in use. None of my HotkeyP hotkeys work when
vArranger is running.

Hi Dan , thanks for your offer to help , but I've just figured out
what was going wrong.
I was loading the styles from this location
\vArranger2\vArrangerData\Styles\StylesROM1
and for some reason it did not like that.
I moved the styles to new folder inside the
vArranger2 folder and everthing is working OK.
I will try to remember not to load styles from the
StylesROM1 folder in future.
A few other things -
1/ I notice that vAsynth is using about 6-8 % CPU
   when idle - is that normal?
2/ There is audio distortion with vAsynth and Asio4All v2.14
   If I change to Direct Sound: Realtek HD Audio Output
   there is no distorion
   When I change it to ReaRoute Asio > Reaper >
   Asio4All , there is no distortion.
   3/ When vArranger is running , my HotkeyP Hotkeys do not work.
   Is that by design?

When I try to save a Song with a few Chord in the
Song Chords windows , there is a popup message in yellow
- !!!!!!! - Argument 'Length' must be greater or equal to zero. - !!!!!!! -
and the song is not saved.
Tried with no Chords too and still unable to Save
What can be wrong?

On your recommendation , I went to the SynthFont site and noticed the freeware SyFonOne.
I have been able change the voices playing in Impro-Visor by piping its midi output via LoopBe1
to SyFonOne and using right click/Select SoundFont Preset. Very useful to be able do this.

If this is possible , it would be very useful for using iPad as controller etc.
without having to use Wifi or cable.
Bluetooth LE works very well with virtually no latency.

It is easy enough to create a drop down list for chords in Excel ,
and you can combine the Cells to create a Chord Chart.
I too hope that there will be some quick way to Import Chord Charts into vArranger
from text file or MusicXML file or Yamaha XG Midi file(From Arranger Keyboard).
Also , is there a way to add a repeat Loop into vArranger's Chord Chart for testing
a Chord progression without having to restart the Chords manually every time it ends.
(Handy for checking out styles rather than just the one fixed chord playing)

The easiest way to get what you want is to open a Midi Editor and create
one bar that contains a chord that is a crotchet in duration with notes CEGC
Copy this 200 times to create 200 Bars and save as ChordOnlyStyle.mid
Now change its name to ChordOnlyStyle.sty and load it into vArranger.
Set up your MS40 for NTA to be on same channel as vArranger and set
MS40 midi clock sync to have vArranger as Master and now vArranger will
drive your MS40 with either the Chord in vArranger Chords or Chords
that you play on Midi Keyboard connected to vArranger.
You will need to mute the Volume on the NTA channel if you dont want to
hear the chords from ChordOnlyStyle.sty.

Yes Dan , I would also very much appreciate this feature.
Importing/exporting the Chord data if possible would be amazing!
(for the cases where User already has Chords in XF midi(from Yamaha Arranger) , Music XML file(Notation) ,
or Chord Chart(Chordpro etc) - or would like to export Chords from vArranger to use elsewhere.
Even just the ability to paste in the Chords(in the correct format for vArranger) into a text file which
could be opened by vArranger would be super useful.

would be VERY useful!
I too have existing Chord sequences I would like to Import.
To be able to Export new vArranger Chord sequences also would be a
great time saver when adding a melody to create a Lead Sheet in
Notation Software.

I'm using vArranger v1.18Beta12 with vArranger Software Synthesizer.
Playing PSR-S710 Dance-Discohouse - with drums on SOLO +  track Reverb control around 80.
In FX-REV I try to change Reverb Type but the reverb is always the same.
I set FX-REV to OFF , yet the Reverb in still there.
Same happens for FX2 - tried changing it or switching it off  , but nothing changes.
Why am I unable to Change the Effects or to switch them Off?
Is there another button I must press to make the changes active?
Also , if I right click or left click on FX3 nothing at all happens.
What am I doing wrong?

yes, I mean using the chords in vArranger driving the chord recognition engine of the external arranger/arranger module,
i.e. using vArranger as a chord sequencer.
vArranger would have to output say 4 multi Note chords (from a special style I assume?) per bar on a midi channel,
which would be recognised as chords by the external unit and play it just as if you were playing chords on a keyboard.
If Dan could add the option to alllow transmitting midi data for changing style variations , intro , endings etc it would be
an even more powerful chord sequencer.
(As far as i know the only Arranger with a Chord Sequncer is the Korg PA3X = £3000!!)

My main use would be as songwriting tool - it would help if the lyrics were in the same place as chords
during the creation process to facilitate all the changes to lyrics and chords as the song is built.
It would be good to have my left hand free to play a full keyboard part while vArranger plays the Chords
while displaying the lyrics beside the chords and then being able to save to file and reload another time.
If vArranger could then export everything(i.e. Style parts, chords , lyrics) to a 'Lead Sheet' midi file
with the chords and lyrics showing in the arrangement it would be brilliant.
Good that midi sync is coming - am I correct in assuming this means vArranger will be able to be
used as a chord sequencer with an external Arranger keyboard/Module ?
Is the Roland style engine almost ready?

Yes, I agree , very useful feature - as indeed would the ability to paste in all the Chords
at once from an existing song (Or import chords from a Midifile that had been created by
e.g. a Yamaha PSR arranger).
To be able to use vArranger as a chord sequencer with midi sync to BK-7m etc would
enable  me to go ahead and purchase vArranger!
