Title: Windows 8 and vArranger
Post by: Deane on March 28, 2012, 03:00:52 PM
I am installing Windows 8 on my pc and will report back later today about how varranger
runs on it.  This is a Preview version offered by Microsoft so there might be differences in
the product released later.  My PC does not have a touch screen so it will be interesting to see how
the mouse works.

The download is taking about 45 minutes to complete.  I will start trying it out as soon as I have it set to go.  I'll try to get some pictures too.

Windows 8 loaded, running, and setup for use.  vArranger does start and run but - it now will now "see" the correct midi ports.  All I see for midi ports
are the maple ports.  Any ideas?  I have restarted all equipment and unplugged and replugged all cables - all connections are in place and the software should see the ports.

yes, you have to install your roland midi interface drivers from the website

Dan,
the only Midi drivers for my Roland A-800 Pro controller are for Windows 7 and they WILL NOT load on Windows 8.  When I try top load them the setup process terminates with the message the operating system is not supported.  I guess for now I won't be able to use vArranger with Windows 8 unless you come up with a solution.

Today Dan spent over an hour trying to get my Roland A-800Pro controller to work with Windows 8 - nothing worked.  The problem seems to be
there is no midi driver supplied by anyone that will work with Windows 8 and my Roland A-800Pro.   Lesson learned here is simple - make sure you have
a working midi driver for the hardware and software combinations you intend to use.   If a solution surfaces I'll post it here.

I sent an email to Roland support - waiting for the reply.

Here is the reply I got today from Roland Support:

Hello Deane,

We expect drivers to be available around the time Windows 8 is released - the last we have heard on that is October of this year.

Sincerely,
Roland US Product Support"

Looks like I am out of luck until then trying to use vArranger with my Roland A-800Pro controller and Windows 8.
