Title: Strange sounds in percussion - how to change instruments
Post by: Akkordeonhansel on July 05, 2025, 08:25:36 AM
Hi all,

I am on holiday and find time to play a little with vArranger2 V. 1.2002.

This is not a version specific issue though.
When playing a style there are some weired sounds played in the percussion track. I tried to find out, who I can track down the culprit by right clicking the percussion track and entering drum mixer. I set each instrument there to level zero while the style was playing and the weired sound never stopped playing.
As I think this is a common problem, I hope you have a simple way to solve this puzzle for me.

I am using the build in varranger synth on GM or GM2 mode (makes no difference) with my Presonus Studio24c as audio output.

The style I was using from the Pop area is called "ENGL". I think this is from the standard installation.

Thanks for your help!
I hope I can make progress during holiday season - otherwise time is up again.....

Cheers Stefan

Try vArrangerSynth on SD1000 mode.

Hi Agaton,

thx for your suggestion but this did not fix the issue. Just delivering other sounds that are more in the area of key related sounds not percussion at all.

Unfortunatelly I did not manage to find out with expected drum instrument is responsible for the weird instrument playing as the levels in the drum mixer do not respond to levelling down to zero volumne. So I was not able to figure it out what is happening on the percussion track.

Two screenshots attached. My port settings with Ketron SD1000 and the drum mixer settings.

Any other ideas?

Cheers Stefan

Hello,

I can see on the picture that you are trying to play original Ketron styles. They often use LIVE DRUMS sound in their percussion tracks. Those are not standard and often sound bad with a basic GM drumkit
To play such tracks, you can use a Ketron sound module, or if you like our software synth, buy our optional soundbank to improve compatibility with such styles
