Hi,
I've been programming various ESP32-based musical electronics—such as an electronic melodica and a GUI for controlling sound expanders—using various AIs (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Google Gemini) for about three years now. My experience is that while AI is very helpful, it fails completely on more complex projects; it generates a lot of nonsense when dealing with multiple source files and Makefiles, which ends up wasting a huge amount of time. So, I can certainly understand Dan's point. It's great for specific sub-tasks, but handing an entire project over to AI is a recipe for disaster.

Wenn ihr noch einen sehr guten Soundgenerator wollt, schaut doch bitte mal in eBay nach meinen Anzeigen zum V3 Accordionmaster XXL (Angebotsnummer 188736281507) und V3 Grandpiano XXL (Angebotsnummer 188732241255). Dies ist eine im Vergleich zum Neupreis sehr gute Möglichkeit, an hochwertige Sounds zu kommen. Beide Geräte sind gebraucht aber voll funktionsfähig und von mir getestet. Ich hatte sie neben meinen beiden eigenen Geräten für diverse Softwaretests im Einsatz. Mit dem Accordionmaster habe ich mir ein elektronisches Akkordeon in ein altes Hohner Tango IIM gebaut. Ich habe schon mehrere Jahre beide im Einsatz und bin immer wieder begeistert von den Klaviersounds im Grandpiano oder den überragenden Akkordeonsounds im Accordionmaster. Beide Geräte haben noch mehrere hundert andere Sounds. Der Accordionmaster hat auch speziell gesampelte Akkordgitarren sowie spezielle Alpensounds wie Kuhschellen, Zither, Maulgeige, Bariton, ....

Ja, du hast recht. Mein V3 Sonority kommt aus Österreich und ich kenne den Entwickler. Er hat viele Monate an den über 1000 Sounds mit Multisamples gearbeitet. Es fehlt dort nur noch das Nachladen von Customsamples, was der Dream SAM5716 auch könnte, aber die Softwareabteilung von Dream ist auch sehr träge. Speziell ein guter Hammond B3 Leslieeffekt mit An-Ablauf des Rotors fehlt dort komplett, ist aber im Ketron Event drin, welches auch den SAM5716 benutzt.

Wie gesagt ich bin schon 75 Jahre alt und mach's eher gemütlich.

Da merkt man dass du hochgradiger Spezialist bist. Das ist mir doch in meinem Alter zu viel Arbeit. Mir sind die Hardware Klangerzeuger SD1000 und V3Sonority XXL genug. Danke für die ausführliche Info.

ich schreibe in deutsch weil dies besser geht als in Englisch und wir vor Jahren schon Kontakt hatten.
Beim SD 1000 sind ja die dort Audio Drum Loops genannten Klangbeispiele nur MIDI Files welche die im SD1000 eingebauten Drumsounds triggern. Wenn ich jetzt Styles mit echten Audioloops wie im Ketron Event bei Bass, Drums und Gitarren spielen will, muss Varranger ja für jeden gespielten Akkord die passenden transponierten Audiofiles per MIDI triggern. Dies ergibt eine sehr große Datenmenge der Audiofiles. Wie machst du dies in Varranger?

Yes. I bought an SD 2 some years ago and compared it with my SD1000. SD1000 Sounds Are much better than SD2 Sounds. There are worlds between Both!

Yes, real Audio Drum Loops in SD1000 never did exist! Big Fake!
"Audio Drum Loop" and "SD 1000 groove library" contain only Midi File snippets that Play Standard Drum Sound from the different drum soundbanks.

The Name "Audio Loop" is wrong from Ketron used.
There Are only Midi files for playing the normal samples in the Midi drum patches.
Real Audio Loops Are for examinierte inside the Ketron Event Keyboards.

Dan told me years ago that he dont make any work on SD1000 DSP in the Future! Not enough SD1000 Users! Today most va2 Users work with VST Instruments and effects.

I use only Hardware soundexpanders! My old win10 pc's works Perfect!

If you select any of this 8 Sounds in SD1000 Bank D , the DSP settings are Set for each Sound different and you can hear this for Example with Sound ,,Organ Overdrive". Here works distortion in DSP.

SD1000 Voice Bank D only the last 8 Sounds have integrated EFX processing.

If you love good Sounds, there Are some Sound Expander From V3Sound Austria. I use V3SonorityXXL, V3GrandpianoXXL and V3Axxordionmaster XXL. This Are older Versions! Now he has the pro Version!

My prefered DAW is Reaper. You can direct in one Midi Track select an ins File for Sound selection with Sound names. No other Plugin needed.

I use SD1000 over 10 years with VA2. You Need no ins File because VA2 knows all Sounds, if yo Connect it as Midi Output.

Now answers to your questions:

1. On that Forum I read messages that SD1000 "remember" all settings and can not reset them to default values. Is that true? Does SD1000 understand any Reset command for the settings of the sound? Maybe GM-Reset SYSEX?

My answer:
If you use an Sound that has included EFX Processing From one of the 2 DSP (EFX1,2) and then change to a Sound without DSP, the DSP effect of the earlyer Sound works with the new Sound => Both dsp remember the last settings until power Off or if you change it with NRPN or Sysex.
You can set the EFX Channel of dsp1,2 to Off with an NRPN.

2. Does somebody use SD1000 not only with vArranger? If so - how do you use it?

3. Does SD1000 need any drivers for it's USB-MIDI interface? There is no information on www.ketron.it site.

No! It is a class compliant Midi Device.

4. Did anybody try to use such a kind of DC\DC converter for powering SD1000 from simple Power-bank with 5 volt (we use it with mobile-phones).. https://aliexpress.ru/item/1005003703674287.html

does your Midi Script Analyse the notes played From VA2 on MIDI Channel ,,Chords" and then triggers the One-Note Message with related Audiocord. For example  when VA2 sends the Notes C,E,G then your Script sends the Special Midi Note (Single Note on,Off) for triggering the Cord ,,c Major" in V3 Accordionmaster XXL?
I own V3 Accordionmaster XXL, V3 Sonority XXl and V3 Grandpiano, because I developed some ting's for V3 Sound!
If this is your Solution, What program Runs the Midi Script?
You Must read the Midi Output of VA2! Then Analyse and send it to midi out for the soundmodule or a VST.

Are there vst Instruments in the market that Play with 1 ,,MIDI Noten on,Off" a Audio-samplechord in Major, Minor..?

Hi Agaton,
You are Right. Audio Loops with VA2 can be played with MIDI Trigger of single Audio Sounds (some MIDI Notes triggers some Audiosamples at the Same Time), but not transposed dependend of the played Chord! But this is not the Same as with Ketron Event with Real Audio Tracks for Drums, Bass and Chords, special for Rythm Guitars. This uses for Guitars sampled chords as Audio Base and play then this in some Variations Like Major, Minor, Seventh  ...... For this you need much more Audio Samples for all Chord Variations!

I use the V3Sonority soundmodule for playing sampled Guitar chords with my Midi accordion. This has separate midi notes for Major, Minor, seventh and dimishned chords! And this function cannot used with VA2! But it Sounds much better than an Midi triggered Chord with 4 separate Guitar samples.

I understand! I use VA2 with my WERSI Spectra (with diy switches and potentiometer for VA2 in Front of lower manual = See attached picture) as Masterkeyboard and an Asus Vivo Pc Core i5. Sounds only generated with SD1000 and V3Sonority XXL Hardwaremodules. You Wrote in your picture of TRANSAUDIO WA-L2 that VA2 Play Audio Loop Styles. But VA 2 cannot Play this Type of Styles like Ketron Event, or I am wrong?

da Dan den SD1000 nicht mehr mit Updates der EFX1,2 versorgt, habe ich mir eine eigene Lösung programmiert.

Ich habe den SD1000 per USB Stecker mit dem VA2 PC verbunden. Der noch freie andere Standard-MIDI-Eingang des SD1000 wird mit einem zusätzlichen MIDI-Interface (billiges China Gerät Logilink) auch mit dem VA2 PC verbunden.

Mein Programm wird erst gestartet, nachdem VA2 läuft.

Dann überwacht mein Programm, ob VA2 einen neuen Song lädt. Wird dies erkannt so wird der Inhalt einer zuvor erstellten Textdatei in MIDI-Befehle konvertiert und über die Standard MIDI Schnittstelle in den SD1000 geschickt. Dies sind im Moment nur beliebige NRPN und SYSEX-Befehle. Dies stehen als Texte (Hexadezimalcodes der MIDI-Befehle) zeilenweise in der Textdatei mit Kommentaren hinter //.

Ich habe es im Moment mit dem Delayeffekt für die Mute E-Gitarre mit Delayeffekt im Shadows Song Atlantis getestet.
Klappt perfekt. Die Textdatei muss nur den gleichen Namen wie der neu geladene Song haben und in dem Unterordner /Text im Varranger Data Ordner stehen.

Jetzt bin ich zu 100% zufrieden mit VA2.

I use Ketron SD1000 for many years! Sounds very good with Styles from Ketron, Yamaha, Korg, Technics and Roland!
The SD 2 is much older. I testet it also and i prefer the SD1000.

Ich nutze VA2 schon viele Jahre. Zuerst nur mit dem SD1000 als Klangerzeuger und nun noch mit V3Sonority und V3Grandpiano.

Die Zeile mit ,, KETRON SD1000 tiefgreifende DSP multi-effects Integration" ist eine Farce!

Ich versuche schon mehrere Jahre, Dan zu dieser tiefgreifenden Integration zu bringen.
Man kann die Werte der beiden Effekt DSP nicht mit einem Sound speichern oder laden!

Sie sind nur manuell editierbar und wirken auch bis auf einige seltsame Steuerelemente.

Sobald man das Effektfenster schließt und wieder öffnet, sind alle Einstellungen von vorher im Effektfenster nicht mehr vorhanden, obwohl diese in den DSP noch drin sind.


Aber Beifall zu deiner  Übersetzungsarbeit!

Korg hat nun nach sehr langer Wartezeit das neue Keyboard PA5X vorgestellt!

Es hat Wahnsinnsmöglichkeiten. Das einzige was es nicht hat ist das Lesen von Fremdstyles.

Ansonsten aber alles drin für den Profi und Hobbymusiker. Schaut mal in YouTube.

Ich hoffe Dan braucht nicht so lange für das versprochene große Update.

Ansonsten bin ich echt am Überlegen, mir das PA5X zuzulegen.

Es bringt nichts sich aufzuregen! Das zeigen die vielen Jahre des Wartens auf viele Versprechungen!

VA2 ist toll und hat für mich nur das Problem, dass die Effekte im SD1000 niemals vollständig und wie bei einem Arrangerkeyboard implementiert waren.

Dan ist ein Einzelkämpfer. Er kann nicht anders. Er fing mal mit dem SD2 als Soundmodul an und arbeitet im Moment nur noch an einer reinen Software Sounderzeugung mittels VST und Samples.

Hoffen wir dass es bald weitergeht.

I think Dan will give you the right answer!

I use the SD1000 over many years with VA2 as main soundgenerator and many Styles from VA2 Downloadpage work very well without modification!

The only problem with SD1000 is, that the settings of both Effect DSP from SD1000 cannot saved and reloaded with a song or sound in VA2

Dan works in the moment at this function and he promised this for the next update!

Your problem is the  automatic selection of free DSP.
Why do you this?

Base for my version is that a Song is the base for decision of Sounds and DSP effects!

I make a new song with the following sounds:

If i want to make a new sound ,,Organ and Rotary" for Right 1 then I select an organ and DSP 1 with Rotary effect and save this new sound under the name ,,Organ with Rotary DSP1".

If I then want to make a new sound ,,Guitar with Delay" for Left 1 i use DSP2 for Delay and save this new sound under the name ,,Guitar with Delay DSP2".

If i then select this 2 Sounds in my new song I have no problem! But if I select 2 Sounds with the same DSP for a song VA2 can find this problem and show an error ,,double use DSP1" oder ,,double use DSP2"!

Your first idea was good! But for my practical use I don't need 2 coupled DSP!
Every DSP works without the other, no Stereo DSP!

I implemented this in my DIY MIDI Accordion with V3 Accordionmaster.
So i can use DSP 1 for example for Right Hand Diskant Sound 1 and DSP2 for Chord 1 in left hand.

Why can you not save and load each DSP separate?

Hi Dan,
The only Problem with SD1000 effects DSP ist that DSP1 and DSP 2 have a difference in output volume. It is approx 30%.

I think you can finish the SD1000 effects with this minor problem.

Most people doesn't hear this difference and everyone can correct this with the gain controls (also saved and restored with your new function).

Many years ago Dan developed the PC software "VA2" on the basis of the Ketron SD2 as the only sound generator. Then at some point came the SD1000 and Dan unfortunately only implemented it incompletely at the time, because the software sound generator came up at that time and he needed a lot of time to do this.
But more than 3 years ago Dan promised me and all other SD1000 users the complete implementation of all SD1000 features, especially the saving and loading of the DSP settings with a song or sound. He has not been able to keep this promise until now, because apparently working on the VST sound generators and effects takes a lot of time.

I don't think that working on the DSP1,2 functions of the SD1000 is an excuse, because I only programmed part of this work for my DIY MIDI accordion myself and therefore know the complexity of the SD1000 and its firmware very well!

I really hope that Dan will implement the new features later this year.

Hello to all not Ketron Users,
Dan promised many years the implementation of DSP1,2 for Ketron SD1000.
Now he is very near to the complete Implementation!
Yes he could release the new version without DSP1,2 but then I have no hope that DSP1,2 will be implemented in the near future!
I have also paid 2x50€ in the past with no new update!

I have stopped my subscription!

So i am very frustrated!

Hi Dan,
It could be so simple.
The User must select dsp1 or dsp2 for any left or right sound. No Automatic.
If dsp1 is used for example for Left 1 then the other Left Sounds or right sounds can only use dsp2.

So a User can for example play at an organ with upper and lower manual with both DSP used at lower manual with left 1 with dsp1 is the left part of the lower Manual (splittet in left1 and left2) and  left 2 with dsp2 is the right part of the lower Manual!
The upper Manual then has no dsp!

I had no luck with contact to Ketron in the past 8 years!
They do not answer and also do not change SD1000 Firmware, because this soundmodule is very old and has no more updates in Firmware!

Please release the new version with integrated DSP1,2.

The difference in volume is minimal (30%) and should not be a problem for Integration!

Everybody can adjust the level for both DSP and his application!

Yes, but many work to do!

I prefer my solution with SD1000 for accompaniment and many sounds that are also very good and then additional V3Accordionmaster as my second soundmodule for alpine sounds, accordion, classical sounds and very good GM Bank Sounds!

I only miss with VA2 save and restore with sound/Song of the both EFX setup with my SD1000.

V3Sound and Ketron SD 1000 have different Dream Audio DSP but Firmware with a few exceptions identical!

So most commands that are GM or GS work.

But if I play a song only with SD1000 and then only with changed MIDI Out with V3Sonority, the sound of most Songs is perfect with SD1000 and only after some changes in track Settings it sound well with V3Sonority, but not as good as with SD1000!

This is clear, because Dan uses Sounds from all Banks in SD1000 and V3Sonority (only GM is the same) has a complete different Soundbank content!

So if one will use only V3SonorityXXL or V3AccordeonmasterXXL, he must make many changes in settings until it sounds good!

Hi V3 Fans,
Today I made some tests with different styles and my  V3 Sonority XXL as second Soundmodule and a Ketron SD1000 as mastermodule! Masterkeyboard is my Wersi Spectra Organ.

All styles from different Brands work very well with VA2 and only SD1000!  I need no modifications in tracks or sounds.

With V3Sonority as only soundmodule i need to change some tracks and switch off percussion track to hear a good accompaniment. To much work for me!

With SD1000 it works out of the box without any changes!

So I ended my tests with frustration!

SD1000 is my basic soundmodule and V3 Modules are used for special solosounds like my loved alpinesounds, accordions, classical strings etc.

I think V3 Modules have many very good sounds and can used with VA2 if Dan does some adaption work! But he has to much work with the new VA2 version!

Here is the Sysex for Part to drum! It is inside the Firmware doc from V3Sound and not for Download!

Would be nice if Dan could include this into VA2 as V3Sound Setup.

SYSEX  => F0H 41H 00H 42H 12H 40H 1pH 15H vv xx F7H

Part to rhythm allocation, p is part (0 to 15), vv is 00 (sound part) or 01 (rhythm part).
This SYSEX allows a part to play sound or drumset. There is no limitation of the number of parts playing drumset. Default assignment : part 0 plays drums (default MIDI channel 9) all other parts play sound.

Dan (Developer of VA2) has adapted VA2 only to VST Software soundgenerators and some Hardware-soundgenerators like SD1000, SD2 and other, but not for V3 modules!
The reason is that the most VA2 Users dont use V3 Modules!
So If you use Styles from different Brands with VA2, you have trouble with V3 Soundmodules! The accompaniment  often sounds not good!

And you must use an ins File if you want to select Sounds with their names from V3 soundmodules!

This ,,ins Files" are simple Textfiles and they do assign a Soundname inside VA2 Soundlists to MIDI PC and Bank MSB Messages for V3 and other Soundmodules!

i use V3 Accordionmaster XXL integrated in my DIY Reedless Accordion. But without any other software.

And also i use VA2 with my Wersi Spectra Organ as Masterkeyboard.
This is my favorite Software Arranger Keyboard Solution. But with VA2 i use Ketron SD1000 as Master soundmodule for all accompaniment and solosounds and my V3 Accordionmaster for special solosounds on my Upper organ Manual!

V3 Accordionmaster is very good for alpine music and Classic music.

You can use V3 Module with VA2 as only one soundmodule. But then you Must use an INS-File to see the Sounds from Accordionmaster inside VA2 Soundname-Display!

But with SD1000 you can play all Styles Form Korg, Ketron, Yamaha, Roland without Style  Modifikations!
With V3 Accordionmaster you must change Most Styles because VA 2 is Not adapted to V3 Soundmodules!

V3Sound benutzt nur Bank MSB und Programchange 0-127 innerhalb der Bank. Dies ist am Ende der  INS-Datei so angegeben!

Im Textblock nach ".Instrument Definitions" steht dazu beim V3Sound-Modul die Zeile:
BankSelMethod=1

Bedeutung:
0   Normal - bank select MSB and LSB matter
1   Only the MSB is used and defined
2   Only the LSB is used and defined
3   Only program changes are used and defined

Also wird nur das Bank MSB benutzt! Dies muss VA2 auswerten und den passenden Bankchange erzeugen!

Was ist bei der Blackbox anders?

Hat die Bank MSB und LSB plus natürlich immer der Programchange 0-127 innerhalb der Bank?

Dann müsste dort im INS-File stehen:
BankSelMethod=0

Ich denk du musst wenn du einen Sound aus dem Ins File angewählt hast z.B als Rechts 1 dann dies als rechten Sound unter einem beliebigen Namen abspeichern. Dann erscheint dieser in der CustomSound Liste für Rechts! Du kannst natürlich auch mehrere Sounds aus dem Ins für Rechts 1,2.. wählen und diese Kombination als Customsound speichern!

Nun diesen Sound in eines der 10 das MySound Felder ziehen und Save Song!

Wenn dann VA2 geschlossen und wieder geöffnet wird, wird der letzte Song geladen mit dem  neuen MySound!

Ich hatte meines Wissens mit dem SD1000 nur bei einem Style mal einen Aussetzer! Vor dem V3 Sonority habe ich alles nur mit dem SD1000 gespielt und nie was gemerkt außer wie gesagt bei einem Style, welchen ich nicht mehr weiß!

Ich nutze für die Begleitung und viele Styles mit sehr gutem Erfolg den SD1000!
Mittlerweile habe ich ca. 200 teils titelbezogene Styles im Einsatz.

Styles von Roland, Ketron, Yamaha und Korg klingen damit fast immer direkt ohne Modifikation sehr gut dank der guten Arbeit von Dan!
Nur im Effektbereich des SD1000 fehlt mir noch das Speichern und Laden von Effekt DSP Einstellungen beim SD1000.

Für manche Sounds im Alpinbereich und Musette sowie Steirische sowie Klassiksounds habe ich den neuesten V3Sonority XXL mit sehr guten Klängen bei Orgel (Hammond B3 mit und ohne Leslie, Wersi und Theaterorgel), Akkordeon und klassischen Orchestern. Dort wäre natürlich das Speichern und Laden von Effekt DSP Einstellungen sehr schön, aber damit will ich Dan nicht belasten!

Softwareinstrumente und VST nutze ich daher garnicht weil ich genug Klänge habe!

Also zusammengefasst:
SD1000 ist meine Wunderwaffe für meine Klangvorstellungen beim problemlosen Abspielen vieler Styles und V3Sonority XXL meine Spezialsoundwunderwaffe!

You can make the Stylebase as Midifile with Markers in Cubase and then use CASM Editor to make a Yamaha Style.

Then VA2 can read this Style!

Wenn du mit VA2 nur die Sounds der verschiedenen Soundbänke im PA1000 wählen willst, dann braucht du im INS-File die Teile

1. ".Patch Names"
Dort werden alle 128 Sounds einer Bank beschrieben. Für jede Soundbank solch ein Block mit Max. 128 Sounds und den zugehörigen MIDI Programchange Nummern 0 bis 127.

Dann zum Schluss noch den Teil

6. ".Instrument Definitions"

mit den MIDI Bank MSB oder MSB und LSB füllen. Ich weiß nicht was Korg da braucht!

I use only a Ketron SD1000 for accompaniment and solosounds and for special solosounds like accordions, alpine Sounds, Ethnic Sounds ...an V3 Sonority Hardware Soundmodule!

The SD1000 has much better Soundquality than SD2!

If you want to use  VA2 without any Hardware Soundgenerator you must have a strong new Computer for Software soundgeneration with VST Instruments or with for Dans soundbanks!

Hier was Neues zum Style Erstellen für Korg und damit auch für VA2.
Problem ist nur, dass damit ein Style als Standard MIDI File erzeugt wird!
Schön wäre, wenn VA2 wie die Korg Keyboards dies importieren könnte!

me and my family are fine! Because of my age (almost 69) I already belong to the risk group. Now I have more time for my hobby, music electronics. I am currently converting my DIY master keyboard with 88 keys to a new Fatar piano keyboard with 3 contacts per key (better dynamic play should be possible with it than only with 2 contacts). Then Varranger 2 runs again.

Be carefull with this cheap usb Hubs and plastic case!

I also had one and because of no Metal case it made Noise to my WLAN so that this at my VA2 PC didnt  work!
Replacement with an Version with Metal case now it works!

I fully agree with you! Dan had promised me the implementation of effect saving and loading for the SD1000 sound generator for several years. No one except Dan knows what is being implemented in VA2. It would be better to ask the long-term customers which new features could be implemented! That's why I'm not going to pay an update price right now if I don't know what the future will look like!

i use Ketron SD1000 over some years and now on an WIN64Bit System without Problems!
I never used a special driver for it for USB because it is MIDI class compliant on Windows!

What 64 Bit Driver for SD1000 do you use?

The SD 1000 had in the past problems with Power over USB! There was a problem with the power connector, if power come from USB!

Try SD1000 with its own power supply!

you are right if you use only software soundgeneration!

But many VA2 users use only hardware soundgenerators! And VA 2 was original developed for Ketron SD2 and Dan then changed to SD1000 some years ago! This was the time i bought VA2!

But Dan has never implemented full DSP functions for the SD1000!!

Va2 is no full replacement for an Hardware Arranger! It lacks some features like effect dsp settings with sound or arrangement!
I use VA2 only with SD1000 as main soundmodule and miss some years the load and save effect settings with sound!

der SD1000 behält alle Einstellungen ( unter anderem auch die DSP-Einstellungen), bis etwas daran geändert wird.
Es gibt keine Möglichkeit, aus dem SD1000 die gerade aktiven Einstellungen auszulesen! Reset All setzt auch nicht alle DSP-Effekte und deren Einstellungen zurück!

Also muss Dan sich alles merken, was er während der Bearbeitung eines Songs oder Sounds irgendwann irgendwohin im SD1000 schreibt und diese Werte dann mit einem Sound oder Song speichern und auch wieder laden! Das ist das wichtige Feature, dessen Fehlen ich seit Jahren bemängele!

Folgendes ist empirisch ermittelt!

Nach RESET ALL in SEND TRACK TO DSP1 den Haken in 12-R1 setzen und direkt danach wieder löschen.
Nun kann man rechts die verschiedenen Hallvarianten wählen und auch auf dem Klang in R1 hören.

Um den gleichen Effekt auf  L2,3 zu legen muss ich dies bei DSP2  machen! Sehr seltsam!

Also wenn Haken einmal gesetzt und wieder rückgesetzt wird wirkt der oben rechts gewählte Reverb auf DSP1 bei R1 und auf DSP2 für L2,3!

Bei der Bedienung der DSP ist von Dan noch viel zu verbessern!

ich habe mir mal die Daten der beiden Konkurrenten angesehen.
Die können anscheinend nur Yamaha Styles laden, aber auch bearbeiten was VA2 nicht kann! Aber wer braucht das schon? Ich nicht!

Ich habe über die Jahre aus dem Internet einige zehntausend Styles von Korg, Yamaha, Ketron, Technics und Roland geladen und getestet! Viel schlechte Styles, aber auch viel Gute!

Das war für mich der Hauptgrund zum Kauf von VA2.

Dan bietet auch reine Softwaresounds (Soundfonts)  für VA2 an. Die sollen laut Forumskollegen sehr hochwertig sein! Kosten aber auch ca. 400€!

Hallo,
ich benutze den VA2 (Varranger 2) seit über 3 Jahren als Nachfolger für mein Korg PA80. Für mich ist er ein kompletter Ersatz für eine 2 manualige Orgel mit Vollpedal!

Als Masterkeyboard benutze ich eine Wersi Spectra Orgel mit 2 Manualen und Vollpedal. Deren interne Sounds benutze ich ausser den Sinus Zugriegelsounds meist nicht!

Der MIDI Ausgang der Spectra wird mittels MIDI-USB Interface in VA2 eingespeist.
VA2 läuft dann auf einem Core i5 mit Touchscreen. Ich erzeuge aber keine Sounds im PC sondern nutze extern an USB einen Ketron SD1000 Soundexpander ( in dieser Preisklasse für mich das beste was es gibt!).  Dieser erzeugt sehr hochwertige Klänge. Vor allem sind dessen Sounds direkt in VA2 im Soundmenü implementiert!

Der besondere Vorteil von VA2 ist das Lesen und Abspielen beliebiger Styles von Korg, Ketron, Yamaha, Roland und Technics! Die kompletten Einstellungen für ein Musikstück werden in VA2 als Song bezeichnet. Mit einem Song kann man den benutzten Style, bis zu 10 Sounds für Obermanual (Right Sound beim Keyboard) und Untermanual (LeftSound beim Keyboard) , Tempo und und und speichern und auch wieder laden. So eine Art OTS!

Nur die Einstellungen der beiden im SD1000 vorhandenen Effektprozessoren werden momentan noch nicht mit einem Song gespeichert und geladen!! Ein für mich grosser Nachteil!
Trotzdem liebe ich VA2 wegen der unendlichen MIDI Möglichkeiten.
Ich habe auch schon mit TouchOSC über mein WLAN mit dem ipad und iphone experimentiert. Aber ich benutze lieber wegen der Haptik mechanische Tasten zur MIDI Steuerung.

I tested both, sold my SD2 and play most songs with SD1000.

For special sounds i use Sonority XXL from V3Sound Austria!
Very good ethnic and folk alpine sounds, classical orchester, many organs like Hammond B3, Wersi,  Theaterorgan, folk accordion .....!

i think you should use as minimum one 61 key keyboard! With 49 keys you have problems for left hand chords and right hand melodie with for example 2 keyboard regions with different sounds!

And it should have some controllers and buttons for control some VA2 functions like volume of tracks, start/stop for rythm ...

you must only in MIDI Settings of VA2 select SD1000 as soundmodule at for example midi out 1, your preferred keyboard as MIDI in 1 and then load a song (from Ketron, Korg, Technics, Yamaha) and play without changes!
VA2 recognices the different style formats and select the correct sounds in SD1000.

And  i have tested many many styles! Sound very well like the best hardware arranger!

i prefere Ketron SD1000. Most Styles for VA2 from Ketron, Korg, Yamaha,... sound very good without any modification!
I downloaded thousands of styles from the internet!

And all sounds are direct inside VA2 selectable with sound menu!

SD2 ist older and has no good sounds compared to SD1000.

Roland Sonicell is not direct integrated in VA2 and you must have an INS-File for display soundnames! And if you play a style with it you must change all sounds or use only GM sounds!

mein MIDI Interface besteht aus 3 selbstentwickelten Leiterplatten mit je einem STM32F042 Mikrocontroller, welcher jeweils für 12 Tasten mit LED Feedback oder 8 Tasten und 4 Potis zuständig sind. Diese sind untereinander verbunden und der Letzte gibt die MIDI Befehle der Tasten/Potis sowie von meiner Spectra über USB  an den VA2-PC. Umgekehrt werden über diesen USB Anschluss die LED in den Tasten als Feedback angesteuert.

Nicht einfach nachzubauen, da die mechanische Realisierung noch die Platinen für die Taster (8 Taster, 4 Taster, 4 Potis sind jeweils auf einer Platine) und Potis erfordert.
Und man muss die Prozessoren auch programmieren können!

Ich möchte das Design auch nicht herausgeben, da dies von meiner Seite zuviel Zeit für die Betreuung erfordern würde!
Und für die professionelle Vermarktung ist es zu teuer!

das Problem ist, dass es mit VST und Hardware Klangerzeugern zu viele verschiedene Konfigurationen gibt!
Dan hat da grosse Probleme, allen gerecht zu werden.

Ich nutze auch nur Hardware Klangerzeuger!
Ketron SD1000 umd V3Sonority XL.

An meiner Wersi Spectra (mein Masterkeyboard) habe ich ein spezielles selbstentwickeltes MIDI Interface mit USB Anschluss am VA2-PC angebaut. Dieses besitzt verschiedene Taster und Potis zur Steuerung der Begleitung von VA2 mit Intros, Ending, ... und Lautstärken.
Alle Tasten mit LED Feedback! Im Anhang mal ein Foto der Spectra mit den VA2 Steuerelementen vor dem Untermanual.

Damit hab ich alles was ich brauche. Ich spiele nur hobbymässig alles von Oldies über Klassik bis Modernes.

Das einzige Problem ist das momentan noch fehlende Speichern und Laden der DSP Einstellungen beim SD1000.
Zum Glück brauch ich als Effekt meist nur Hall und der ist in VA2 am SD1000 auch nutzbar.

man braucht einen PC mit dem Editor, um die grafischen Menüs zu programmieren(kann auch der Varranger 2 PC sein). Dieser überträgt dann z.B per WLAN das Menü zur Darstellung auf das ipad oder Android Gerät. Dieses kommuniziert dann per WLAN mit dem Varranger2 PC.
Dan und andere sowie ich haben hier im Forum schon darüber berichtet.

VA2 passt anscheinend die MIDI File Inhalte an den angewählten MIDI Ausgang (bei mir SD1000) an. Bei Styles ist dies bekannt! Somit klingen die Styles von Yamaha, Korg, ... mit dem SD1000 fast alle sehr gut für mich.

Bei mir klingen die meisten MIDI Files aus dem Internet mit dem SD1000 auch sehr gut (Geschmackssache).

Ich spiele aber meistens mit Styles.

Was am SD1000 gefällt dir nicht?

Der hat doch durch die Bank z.B. sehr gute Naturinstrumentensounds. Besonders die Saxophone, Hammond, Flöten usw.
Ist aber alles Geschmackssache! Und für den Preis gibt es auf dem Markt keinen besseren Soundexpander!

you are right with control for sound things like vibrato, pan, chorus etc. inside a track.

But no DSP1,2 effect is storable and then again loadable with a prior saved sound right or left!

So if you want to improve for example in RIGHT 1 a E-guitar sound with Amp-Model and Delay, you can do it and it works, until you load a new sound that uses the DSP effects internal! Loading of a new song does not kill the old DSP effects from the prior setting!

We have in the effect menue for the SD1000 all important DSP effects with controllers. Some controller are not good implemented from a practical view!  But most are usable.

Missing is only the save and restore effectsettings with song or sound right/left.


When do you implement this very important function?

Die Effekte im SD1000 sind unbedingt nötig, um wie ein Arrangerkeyboard die Sounds noch zu verbessern.

Und sie müssen unbedingt  mit dem Song auch speicher - und ladbar sein!!!!

Der SD1000 hat ja 2 Effekt DSP, welche viel mehr können als nur Chorus oder Hall (AMP-Modell für Gitarren, Delay in Stereo und Mono, Distortion, Flanger, Leslie mit Anlaufeffekt usw....).

Möglich ist z.B. in Left auf DSP1 ein Instrument mit Chorus und in Right1 auf DSP2 eine E-Gitarre mit Distortion und gleichzeitig Delay sowie AMP Modell!

you must download the product related INS-File from V3Sound Homepage and this can you open in VA2 and select a Sound for right or left from this List.
Then you save this new sound as right- or left  sound with a name of your choice.
The selected soundname from ins file will be displayed in the track (only with the newest VA2 beta release => ask Dan for this)  After ,,save song" you can play the song with the new sounds.

works well. Very good function! It also saves the ins-soundnames setting with last played song! For example if 2 ins-soundnames are on right 1 and right2.

But if the soundname is too Long, it overwrites the reverb Control on track upper left!

ich habe einen SD1000 und den Sonority XXL und spiele VA2 über einer zweimanualige Wersi Spectra mit grossem Pedal als Masterkeyboard. Für mich die ideale Klangkombination!

Der SD1000 ist natürlich ideal mit VA2 und er bringt auch bei den meisten Styles sehr guten Klang!

Aber was wäre die Welt ohne einen kleinen Luxus?

Der Sonority XXL hat mehr und bessere Akkordeon und Orgelsounds als der SD1000.
Auch die in vielen Soundexpandern fehlenden Klänge wie klassisches Orchester, neapolitanisches Madolinenorchester, alpine Instrumente (Bariton, Steirische Harmonika in verschiedenen Varianten usw) begeistern mich.

Ich nutze den SD1000 hauptsächlich als Begleitung im Untermanual oder spezielle Soloinstrumente im Obermanual und den Sonority XXL zusätzlich für spezielle Sounds meist im Obermanual.

In my opinion the rank is:

1. place for SD40 with best sound quality
2. place for SD1000
3. Place for SD2 with worst sound quality

I can only hear minor differences in sound quality!

But i can see major difference in price!

I use with VA2 only a SD1000 as my master soundmodule and a ,,V3 Sonority XXL" (new version from V3Sound Austria) as expansion module for all special sounds (many organs like hammond, theater organ, german organ, Accordion, Swiss sounds, classic orchestra and alpine sounds).

schau mal im VA2 Controllers Menü unten, dort stehen im MIDI Monitorfenster die empfangenen MIDI Befehle. Könnte sein, dass die Orgel auf dem falschen MIDI Kanal sendet!

ja, einfach im Effektmenue ,,Reset all" unten rechts anklicken und alle Effekte sind aus.
Wenn du dann Hall aktivieren willst, am Hall Input Regler im Effektmenue unten rechts kurz drehen. Ist eine Notlösung, bis Dan die Effekte mit dem Sound speichert und wieder lädt!

Die MIDI Spur schaltet übrigens den Distortion Effekt nicht ein sondern einer deiner zuletzt angewählten Sounds hat im SD1000 eine Verzerrung eingebaut (schau mal ins SD1000 Manual letzte 8 Sounds der Bank D).

Theoretisch braucht man die GM Bibliothek auf Bank 0 nicht! Man kann in VA2 in einem Track ja den MIDI OUT Kanal je Track ändern auf den Anschluss des YAMMEX und dann mit dem INS File jeden beliebigen Sound auf jeden Track legen.

Wie gesagt ich teste alles demnächst und versuche dann auch, verschiedene ausgewählte Beispielsongs von Ketron, Yamaha, Roland und Technics mit dem YAMMEX zu spielen ohne den SD1000.

Momentan habe ich einen SD1000 und einen Sonority zusammen an VA2 und nutze beide gemischt je nach Song!

Ziel ist die Kombi aus SD1000 und YAMMEX.

ich habe ein Problem mit den Effektprozessoren im SD1000.
Der SD1000 ist über den USB Bus mit meinem WIN10 PC (64 Bit) verbunden.

Wenn ich z.B. den DSP1 auf RIGHT1 mit einem Gitarrensound aktiviere und dann das AMP Modell  "R-Fier" anklicke, dann stürzt VA2 mit einer Fehlermeldung ab!
Dieses Verhalten ist mit DSP1 und 2 reproduzierbar!
Alle anderen AMP Modelle arbeiten korrekt => ich höre bei Anwahl eine Klangänderung.

Kann das bitte mal jemand auch testen?

i have a problem with effects in SD1000.
SD1000 is connected with USB Bus.

For example i use DSP1 on RIGHT1 with a guitar Sound and then i select the amp model "R-Fier". If i click "R-Fier" VA2 crashes!
Allways if i click "R-Fier" and also on DSP2! All other amp models work and i hear soundchanges.

I use it on the latest WIN10.

Please help me Dan. And please add the effect settings save and load function, because without this the effects are worthless!!

für diesen alten Prozessor kenn ich keine MIDI Doku.
Aber es gibt eine für den SAM5716, welche nach meiner Erfahrung fast 100% kompatibel zum SAM3816 ist.
Problem ist, dass Ketron die Firmware des SAM3816 gegenüber dem Original von Dream modifiziert hat.

You can only change the level of chorus and reverb with the rotating knobs at top of each track, not the type!

Hi,
if you make changes at SD1000 effects, this values are sent to SD1000. But if you power off the SD1000, this values are lost!

And load of a song does nothing update in the SD1000 effects! They remain at values from last changes!

Only Chorus and reverb values are saved and loaded with sound on a track! So if you load a song, reverb and chorus in SD1000 are updated!

Dan must urgent implement the ,,save" and ,,load" of all effects with song or sound!

Wenn man es mit dem SD1000 spielt, wird in "Main C" manchmal der Sound auf Right 1 (Hammondsound) plötzlich abgeschaltet!
Ganz sporadisch.

Bitte mal selbst probieren!

Mit dem V3Sonority passiert dies nicht!

der SD1000 hat als Soundprozessor den SAM3816 (nicht mehr lieferbar) und der V3Sonority den SAM5716. Dieser ist neuer und hat theoretisch 256 Stimmen Polyphonie.

Ich hatte bei dem SD1000 wie schon gesagt nur bei einem Song (ich meine ,,Unchained Melody") manchmal in der Melodiestimme einen Tonabbruch mittem im Spiel.

Mit dem V3Sonority werde ich demnächst mal dieses Verhalten testen.

i want to know when the save and load effect settings for SD1000 will be implemented! I am now waiting more than 3 years for this feature, that Dan has promised!

If VA2 will be a Software Arranger and replacement of a real hardware arranger it must have this feature!

Please Dan give me and all SD1000 users a timeline info, when this important feature is number one in your ToDo list!

Ich habe dies nur bei einem bestimmten Style mit sehr vielen Stimmen. Dann ist anscheinend die Stimmenzahl zu hoch!
Stichwort ,,voice reserve" im Datenblatt. Das hat irgendwas damit zu tun, dass wenn zuviele neue Töne gespielt werden sollen dann die ältesten ausgeschaltet werden.

die Einstellungen der beiden Effektprozessoren sind momentan nicht speicherbar! Diesen Wunsch kennt Dan aber schon sehr lange!

Ich benutze einen Effektprozessor im Lied ,,Atlantis" von den Shadows. Dazu schicke ich eine E-Gitarre (stopped) über das Delay. Ich benutze aber keinen der vorhandenen Delay Preset sondern stelle die Parameter manuell ein. Klingt sehr gut. Die Effekt-Preset sind übrigens keine Erfindung von Dan sondern in der Firmware des SD1000 fest eingebaut.

Hall und Chorus der beiden Effektprozessoren sind aber mit Right - und Leftsound speicherbar und wieder mit einem Song mit diesen Sounds auch ladbar!
Dazu einfach mal die Regler oben in den Tracks testen!

Aber ansonsten klingt der SD1000 auch ohne die Effekte sehr gut!
Schau mal in die letzte Soundbank. Dort haben die letzten 8 Klänge eingebaute Effekte!
