The vArranger² Software Forum / Volume setting
September 02, 2016, 01:18:34 PM
Hi Dan,

Can you please consider the volume setting.  Every time I change to a new style the volume goes up to maximum.  This has just caused an ampliifier to damge right now.

I am sure many others want the same thing.

I know I can save and the volume will save with it, but I think it can be better if you do not need to save every single style with the new volume settings. While listing to every new style, to see the possibilities of it's usefullness, I do not want to have to save each one.

Please Dan.

Regards,
Brian.

Thank you, but I have all of my 'cheap' soundcards with mimi ports, that the midi port is no longer visivle in the operating system, that being from windows 7 upwards. :(  I would have loved to use this simple and cheap design to midify my unused 25 note spinet organ pedalboard, and then added some toe pistons to it to control things like all the intro's, variations, fills, endings and so on.  There would have been ample buttons for that.
I had to buy midi to usb cable converter, as well as midi gadgets boutique midi encoder boards.

My 5 cents.

Hi,

Something is working now, it is very strange.  When I press a group button now, I see a lot of 'new sounds' that were not there before with the older version without the harmony.  Is this how it should be, or have I selected something wrong somewhere?

Brian.

Hi Vaclav,

That is a bargain.  I am sure you really enjoy the girls 80% more, than you do the boys - asuming they are all adult   ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I've wanted to ask, are you Czech or Slovak, with some German in the mix?

Lylo, it plays the 'LEFT' sound, because 'LOWER' is set to channel 1.  This way, when I play a chord below G2, the style plays nicely, but also it plays all the sounds of 'Left".

When I change it so that "Upper" is channel one, then all the sounds of "Right" play, but then there is no style.

March 15, 2016, 09:12:48 AM
Hi, in my study where I try to select the sounfonts for my vArranger setup, I have a single midi controller keyboard. Is it possible to use this keyboard to test eveything, like for example playing the style with left hand, and melody with right hand?

Currently, when I do this, the style does play and change chords correctly with the left hand, but I also hear the right hand sound everytime I play a chord with the left hand, and that sounds horrible.

Please anybody help, it does not have to be Dan, it can by anybody.

Brian.

March 05, 2016, 06:10:04 AM
Good morning.  If I wire up a button and build a sustain pedal (like that on a piano) is there a way in vArranger, to make it work with a piano sound, just like it would on an arranger keyboard with sustain pedal, or real piano?

#170
Dan or anyone else that can answer,

How can I make a preset "wetter".  I have some strings, but they end abruptly when you release the key, I would like them to fade away a bit slower?

Brian.
#171
Thank you Dan,

I have numbered my files, like you say, and is works beautifully. The thing is, I have  a total of 61 soundfonts, with sounds that I love. Remember, I don't do gigs, it is only for my own amusement, and I thought if I could bring it down to 1 soundfont, it would be so much simpler.

Hi,
Is it possible to move a preset, with instrument and preset, from one soundfont into another, in order to replace a sound, or in order to add a sound to the soundfont?

I have added some new voices to my setup, using external soundfonts.  As Dan suggested in a post that I cannot find now, I should edit the soundfont with Polyphone, which I have done successful. As suggested, I edit the Bank and Preset numbers for each preset in the soundfont, so that the new voices remain in the correct category. I have used banks banks 1 to 3, and 5 to 24 to add my new voices.  When I try to use bank 25 in the soundfont, it does not show up in vArranger at all.  Could anybody please suggest what I might be doing wrong?

Hi,

Although not strictly a vArranger question, I want to know, why does polyphone not allow me to choose bank 6, 7 or 8.  When I edit the bank number and try to change it to either 6, 7 or 8, it automatically reverts back to 5.

Hi Phil,

I have the advanced edition of Hauptwerk, and also the Parramount 320, which you have to pay for.  The Parramount 310 which is free, does work in the free edition of Hauptwerk.

And there is a vst link that can connect varranger to Hauptwerk, I have not tried it either.  The thing is, with vArranger2, I do not care about the absolute perfect rendition of the organ sounds, because there is no multi channel audio anyway.  As long as the theatre organ presets that I want to use in vArranger2 sound reasonably authentic (which they do) I am happy to use the soundfont.  It is not practical to have to set up theatre organ registrations with vArranger2.  So the soundfont I use, has pre-built registration presets. So a single preset might activate a registration of for example: tibia 8' + tibia 4' + tibia 2' + tibia 1' + Strings 4' + Vox 4'.  This is 6 voices, and this will not be possible to do in vArranger2, because you can only have a maximum of 5 voices for the right hand.  Hauptwerk is for purists, that want an authentic theatre and classical church organ  or french organ, etc setup with as many audio channels as possible, in order to reduce intermodulation distortion.

Yes, and it gets better every day.  I now have one PSR 295 connected to my test setup in my study.  Will try to set it up on my console in my lounge, then will use both PSR 295's. The only thing that I notice, is when I send tracck 1 (Drums) to the PSR 295, the drums sound OK, but not right. There is a lot of hand clapping going on, and I don't like it at all.  So I plan to only use some Left and some Right for the PSR 295.  It sound really nice, if you combine a vArranger piano with the PSR 295 strings, the sound mixes 'in the air'.  Also, even if you mix strings from vArranger with strings on the PSR 295, it also sounds wonderfull.  Only problem is the PSR is so bulky, would have prefered it to have been just a module and not a whole keyboard..........................   :)

The vArranger² Software Forum / Drawbars, in sf2
January 20, 2016, 10:13:07 AM
Dan, did you know that drawbars have been developed in a .sf2 format, by Paul Stratman, in jOrgan.  I don't know if you have heard on jOrgan, it is developed by Sven Meier, and is free to use by anybody.  It is an organ simulator that works in Java.

Is it possible to somehow make the drawbars work in vArranger2 with this soundfont, so that people that do not own a Ketron module can also have this functionality?

The vArranger² Software Forum / vsti question
January 20, 2016, 05:22:04 AM
I am using some vsti's that can receive on 16 channels at the same time.

Is there somehwere that I can find out beforehand, which track in vArranger 2 will use which channel?
#198
Since I do not own a  Ketron SD2 sound module  :'( ,  I have tried using the the Drawbars button to make my life with vArranger2 simpler. I have tried to save some user sounds inside it, and it seems to work OK. I only intend to save Drawbar organ sounds inside it, nothing else. Even when I restart vArranger2, the user sounds are still there. Just thought I'd share this idea with everybody, hope you find it useful.
#199
Thank you Dan.  I started using Polyphone a couple of weeks ago, and I see the attenuation adjustment, I will do so.
#200
Is there a way to adust the volume of the presets inside the soundfonts?  I have added various soundfonts to my setup, but some presets are much louder in my soundfonts compared to the standard vArranger2 soundfont, so I continually have to adjust the volume when I select one of my own presets.
#201
Dan, that sounds much easier, I will rather do that.  Does it then create a style file with the name you specify, with the new voices in the style?
#202
I used Google Translate, to see what you are saying here, as in South Africa, we do not speak French.  ;)

Does this program called Mix Master by Michael Bedesem allow me to change for example an existing organ sound in the style, to a new organ sound and save the style, and the style will still work in vArranger like it should, only with the new organ sound where the old sound was? Or even change the piano to a new piano sound?
#203
Are there comparative MP3 songs, recorded with both the standard vArranger synthesizer, as well as the same song with the new sound banks you are selling, for evaluation purposes...........
#205
When I use a vsti in vArranger, it works and sounds beautiful. Lylo has now explained to me how to recall my own USER sounds, that I have created, and that also works.  I have created some USER sounds, that contain 3 voices. 2 of the voices, are from the vArranger synth. The 3'rd voice, goes to a vsti on midi out no 2, then to the specific vsti.  Does vArranger also save the vsti setting with the voice?  When I recall the voice at a later time on another day for example, the vsti does not recall the sound that I expect, but it recalls the default sound for the vsti.  Is there a solution for this problem?

I have click the 2'nd voice, but I do not see where the 5 presets are that you mention, Lylo.
#216
Hi Dan,

I have used Bruce Miles's cinema organ soundont, an not the miditzer soundfont.  I don't know if Miditzer foundfont has 'pre-built registration' presets inside it.  What I mean, is this:  With Miditzer and most other classical organ or theater organ soundfonts, the presets are usually of single ranks of pipes.  This would be possible to use in vArranger2, but would not be vary practical, because with an organ, your 'build' the sound you want by combining different 'ranks' to form a complete registration.  For example, your organ might have the following ranks: Tibia 16', Tibia 8', Tibia 4', Tibia 2 2/3', Tibia 2', Tibia 1 1/3', Tibia 1', Diaphonic Diapason 16', .... Strings 8', Strings 4', Orchestral Oboe 8', Vox 4', and so on.

If you want to combine more than 4 of these ranks with vArranger 2, you will have a problem.  To get this registration: Tibia 16' + Tibia 8' + Tibia 4' + Tibia 2', you would need to use RIGHT 1, RIGHT 2, RIGHT 3, and RIGHT 4, to set up this registration. If you want to add a 5'th rank, to get this example registration: Tibia 16' + Tibia 8' + Tibia 4' + Tibia 2' + Vox4', you will not be able to set it up in vArranger 2. vArranger2 is not an organ simpulator, or a virtual pipe organ software, so it is not geared towards that functionality.  So this is where pre-built registration presets are important in vArranger2. Bruce has already built single presets, that have multible ranks inside them, so you would only need to use 'RIGHT 1' in order to get this registration: Tibia 16' + Tibia 8' + Tibia 4' + Tibia 2' + Vox4'. You can see it has 5 distinct 'voices' inside the preset.  You could even have single presets like this: Tibia 16' + Tibia 8' + Tibia 4' + Tibia 2' + Tibia 1' + Vox4' + Strings 8'.  This registration has 7 'voices' inside.

I will sent you the link to Bruce Miles's Cinema Organ soundfont, I'm not sure if it can be used commercially without his permission.  But for personal use, it is possible to use.  I have already incorporated it into my setup. I will attach the soundfont here, but please contact Bruce if you considder it worthwhile to include some of it in the standard vArranger2 software synthesizer.  Take a look at the bottom presets in the soundfont file, you will clearly see, where the 'multitimbral' registrations are, if you look at the preset names.

It sounds wonderful in my setup. Because placing these presets in the 'ORGAN' part makes the most sense, it was too much work, and I wanted quick results. I placed the presets under the "FLUTE" button.  So I can now just click one button, and I have a full theatre organ registration already setup for me, ready to play in an instant.  I obviously LOVE theatre organs, and even classical (church) pipe organs as well.  There is also a 'classical' organ soundfont, that I have found, also with pre-made, complete registration presets. I will study it, and incorporate it into my vArranger setup as well next week. Then, I will have a dream vArranger setup, ready to play anything I like.
#217
Thank you. You guys are so knowlegable and helpful, I really appreciate it. I want to stay with 64 bit, because I have 16 gig RAM in my setup.

#218
At some point suddenly I could see 'multitimbral' and 'monotimbral' sounds on my varranger screen, I don't know what I did to see it, and I don't know how I made it go away.  Any help please, I don't see anything in the manual either except the dwscroption of what it is.
#219
I have no progressed to the point where I want to add some of my favourite VSTi instuments to my vArranger2 sertup. I am not able to load some of my very most favourite VSTi instruments, because they are 32 bit.  What can I do in order to allow me to use these favourite VSTi instruments that I love so much?
#220
It has taken me the whole afternoon, but I have added 47 complete Cinema Organ registration.  It sounds beautifull with vArranger.  I am doing the happy dance!  I put all the registrations under the 'Flute' button, as it was the easiest, I know, I should have put it under the "Organ" button, but it would have been much more work.
#221
Thank you Lylo.  :)

#222
Thank you Lylo, for the links.  I theater organ is a pipe organ, like a church organ, only it does sound different, It is more modern sounding version of traditional pipe church organ.  They are generally not used in churches (although there are some that do, but it is quite rare.) What makes a theater organ stand out, are the Tibias, Diaphonic diapason, and the sharp reeds, that are not found in traditional church organs.  The tremulant is also very important in a theater organ, it makes it sound different from a church organ.  In fact, a theater can be extremely good with a good tremulant, or extremely bad with a bad tremulant.  I will look at the link, as I want to try to also incorporate 'drawbar' organ in my setup, as I love the Hammond drawbar sound.
#223
Thank you Lylo, could you please expand your coment above, I don't really understand what you mean, and is the a free theatre organ / cinema organ vsti available somewhere?
#224
Looks like I'm the only person that would like proper Cinema organ / Theatre Organ registrations in my vArranger2.  Well, if anybody is interested, I actually already had a soundfont with single ranks as well as pre-setup registrations in the soundfont file, for example, it has a presets of Tibia 8' + Tibia 4' + String 8' + String 4';  Tibia 8' + Tibia 4' + Orchestral Bells Re-It; Diapason 8' + Trumpet 8' + Trumpet 4', and many many more.  I have just selected a few, and deleted the ones that I do not want in my vArranger2 setup.  The soundfont file size is under 2 mb. If anybody is interested, I can share the file. It really sounds beautiful, and I have always wanted a range of Cinema / Theatre Organ sounds, in my arranger keyboard, but have only had 1!  I have seen that Lowrey organs as well as Wersi organs have Theatre organ registration stops, ready to go.............

Dan, would it be possible, to have somebutton somewhere, when you select a voice, and you tick the special tick for that voice, it would only play the highest note of the chord on the 'Right' section?  Perhaps, it could be implemented only on "Right 4" for example, so any voice you assign to "Right 4" could have a tick to either play all notes in the chord, or only the highest note in the cord with that voice.  Just a usefull idea that I would love to have.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Additonal Soundfonts
January 13, 2016, 08:10:04 AM
I have added 21 Soundfonts, to my setup.

I have named them starting with 01 <soundfont name> in order for them to load in a specific order.

Most of the presets in these soundfonts show up on the buttons, but not all of them.  I have assumed that the default soundfont preset naming convention would always be 000:000 Piano, 000:001 Next Piano, and so on.  So in my soundfonts, I have edited them to start as follows: 001:000 My first Piano, 002:000 My second Piano, and so on.  I have also added some Drawbar ogan presets in other soundfonts, for example with naming convention as follows: 001:016 My first Drawbar, 002:016 My Send Drawbar, 003:016 My third Drawbar, and so on.

Why do they not all show up in my buttons?

Where can I find the default soundfont that comes with vArranger, so that I can see if there are any clashes, with the naming convetion that I am using?  Dan, I can send you the soundfonts, if you want to see what I have done, just let me know and I will do so.
#235
Thank you Dan.  I tried it, with 002, 003, 004 and so on.  I have many beautiful organ sounds, as well as choir sounds in .sf2 format, that I will be adding to my setup. I will not be replacing any of the standard sounds.  It keeps on getting better!
#236
1-Yes
2-Yes, but you can do 002:054  it is more easy
3- 000 mean the BANK number (BANK CC 0 MSB)   and 054 mean PRESET number 54

Dan,

I have a soundfont, when I open it with Polyphone, I see for BANK, it has various number, for example, it has 000, then it also has 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007,008, 009, 016, 024, 032, and then 128.  I think 128 you said is for the drum sets.  Would that mean, that I can also use those BANK numbers, in order to get even more sounds on my buttons, from more soundfonts?  I haved 16GB of RAM, so I should not run out of memory.

In the soundfont that I am looking at, there are much more than 127 presets, because they use those other MSB numbers.
#237
Thank you Dan,  I tried it, and now there is an extra sound on the buttons, in the 'Choir' section.  This is SPECTACULAR, this is what I have been dreaming about for years.  It is actually even much better than what I could have dreamed it could be.....
#238
Thank you very much Dan.

If I do as you say, 002:054, will this new sound show up in on the buttons in the program as an additional sound, or will it only show up on the list of other sounds when you click the soundfont button?
#239
Right now, I don't have money to buy your new sound-banks.  I am happy with the sounds, but here and there I would like to replace some.  Dan, than you for the information about the sound-fonts, in the other thread.  To make sure I understand that write-up correctly.

1. If I want to 'replace' a preset in the standard list, I have to make sure that the the numbers in the replacement voice are as follows: For example, if I want to replace the Syn-Voice in your standard sound-font, I have to make the preset of the replacement numbers the same as in your Sound-font, then it will replace your standard voice with the new voice, in this case 000:054.

2. If I want to add a voice without replacing a standard voice, I have to name it 000: 054 2@newvoice

3. If you don't mind telling me what exactly 000:054 means, the 000 part, and the 054 part, please.
#240
Can you put more than 1 soundfont into the "c:\Program Files\vArranger2\vArrangerData\Sounds\SAMPLES\" folder, and if so, how does vArranger2 know which one to choose, how would I know which one has been choses, or can you use them all at the same time, simultaneously?

Or do the internal sounds get replaced with the new sound of a new soundfont in this folder, and some sounds do not get replaced?
#241
Eric,

To you think the standard sounds that come with vArranger2 are better than Crisis GM Soundfont?

I have seen this too, but vArranger does keep on playing.  I'm thinking that it is related to specific styles, but I cannot be sure about it.

Thank you for your help so far Lylo, I appreciate it very much.

At lease there is already an improvement on my side.  I will take a screenshot and explain to you then what I don't understand.
#245
Thank you Lylo.

So in other words,  I will never have a list of the sound module souns on the buttons as I do with the internal sounds?  Also, the PSR 295 file does import, but does not make any sense to me at all.
#246
I have been trying to figure out how to connect my Yamaha PSR 295 to my vArranger setup, in order to use it as a sound module for vArranger.

I don't seem to understand the manual. The instrucitons on page 24 says to do the following:

"Toactivate the INS function, click LOAD, and select an INS file. This will import the sound bank in vA2, and displays a new window with a list of sounds." - I don't see any new window as stated in the manual.

"It is important to note that the *.Ins must be present on the hard drive of the computer" - the .Ins file is on my hard drive.

At first I thought that the YAMAHA PSS 295.ins file might be corrupted, but I tried a lot of other .INS files, and I get the same result.

Please, can somebody help me with this, as I am not getting anywhere.

Thank you.

Impressive setup.  I can imagine that it makes a difference to route groups of instruments to different speakers. But I suspect that vArranger only supports one (stereo) channel, as you cannot select different audio channels on the tracks.

Yes, vArranger only supports 2 audio channels on it's own internal sound engine,  but because this midi out goes to different hardware 'sound modules' there are more than 2 channels, because each hardware module has a stereo pair of it's own, which I route through audio channels in my setup, hopefully giving me 6 distinct channels, or in other words, 3 stereo pairs.
#248
Dan, I thought so, but I was not sure.

To get low latency audio with the virtual synths, you need to go on option MIDIPORTS
You need to select an ASIO or WASAPI sound card for AUDIO OUT. Not DirectSound

#cmpessoa,

If you don't have a soundcard with native ASIO drivers, you could perhaps try 'ASIO4ALL' it is an asio driver that can work with any soundcard.
#250
I don[t understand yet, I think I have asked before, but will again, perhaps I will understand this time.

If I try to use a different gm soundfont, will I need an .INS file for it, or could I just put it in the folder where the other soundfont is, and replace the standard soundfont with the new soundfont.

Thank you.
#251
Thank you. You too. Have a nice weekend.  Here in South Africa we are experiencing an unusually hot heatwave. Yesterday it was 43 degrees Celsius where I live, and inside my house it was 36.5 degrees Celsius. In the mornings when I get up, my house is already at 30 or 31 degrees Celsius - to hot to live.
#252
Yes. My setup has 10 channels, or put in another way, I have5 stereo channels.  So I would want to use the internal sounds of vArranger, and then my 2 yamaha PSR 295 keyboards connected to their own amplifiers as well, giving me 3 stereo pairs.  I would then want to send selected 'tracks' to differend sound generators.  For example, I think I could then send all the 'RIGHT' to one PSR 295, and all the 2'nd midi input to another PSR 295. The rest I could leave on the internal sound of vArranger.  I hope this makes sense.  I have 10 channels, because my VPO (virtual pipe organ) called Hauptwerk I have setup 10 audio channels, and send different ranks on the organ to different channels.  This reduces intermodulation distortion, the sounds mix 'in the air' instead of in the soundcard, and it sounds more natural and more beautiful in the end.
#253
Thank you Lylo.

I downloaded the new version with links that Dan sent me, and installed them in the order that Dan told me to - first vAsynth, then the new version of vArranger itself.

I have now installed the old version of vArranger again, and now it is working again.
#254
I have installed the new version as instructed, and initially, some of it worked, but I could not change the default rhythm.  After restarting vArranger, I get an error message saying "Please download and install the latest version of the vArranger Software Synthesizer.".  Then, after clicking "OK", it wants to select all the setting again, but it does not show midi out and I cannot select the vArranger synth anymore, so now nothing is working.

I have now installed the previous version, and the 1'st midi input does not work anymore either.
#255
I love multi channel audio.

I have 10 channels on my system, it spreads the sound better.  Will I be able to use both my keyboards, as well as the internal sounds of vArranger at the same time, then having 6 channels?
#256
I have 2 Yamaha 295 arranger keyboards. I know the are 'baby keyboards' compared to what you guys have, but this was all I could afford at the time.  And now, VArranger! I want multi-channel audio, so I thought that if I connect these 2 keyboards as well on midi out, I might have 3 channel audio.  I have downloaded the .ins file, but I don't see anything happening when I load it.

1. Will it work, will I have 6 channel audio, if I connect these 2 keyboards?
1. Will it only work once I have connected the keyboard, or might the file be corrupt?
2. Is there a way to fix the file if it it corrupt?
3. Could any of you try to test the file, to tell me if it is working or not please?
4. Will I be able to play the Varranger styles through to the sound module built into the Yamaha PSR 295?
5. Will I see the available sounds of the Yamaha PSR 295, if I select a track at the bottom that I have routed out to the Yamaha PSR 295?
6. After I have made the selections to send certain channels out to certain midi outputs, will it remember that in vArranger between sessions?

Thank you.

Scores / free source of sheet music
December 23, 2015, 07:23:34 AM
I hope this is post is allowed Dan.  I am looking for a source of free sheet music, preferably in .PDF format.  This has nothing to do with VA itself, but I have lost my whole collection of music books that I have collected since my early childhood (from age 6).

Since I am 51, I am very interested in the likes of Abba, Boney M, and that sort of music.  It might be 'out dated' but I love it.  Also earlier music, like that of the Andrews Sisters, and that era is also welcome, WW2 and afterwards.

Any links or website suggestions will be most welcome.
#273
I did not find a dedicated "Songs" folder inside the VA folder structure, so I'm not quite sure what to do. At first I put the songs in the same folder as the styles. How does VA know the difference between a "song" and a "style"?  I then created a new folder called "songs" directly under the VA folder in "My Programs" and moved all the 'songs' into that folder.  Is this the correct way, I did read the manual, but I am still not sure. Is there a way to make the text smaller where the "song" and "style names appear on the left, because currently it only shows the first letter of any name, so there are a lot with exactly the same name, so how does a person know which one to pick, if they all appear exactly the same?
#275
There are so many styles and song styles to choose from, I could never have imagined this. I think even if I live to be 100 years old, I would never be able to go through all of them even once.
#276
Thank you Dan, I 'think' I am safe.  My console computer has 16 Gig/B of RAM.

#277
Although I am quite happy with the standard sounds in VA, I would like to experiment.

Can "Timbres Of Heaven GM_GS_XG_SFX V 3.0 Final !!!.sf2" be a direct replacement for the standard VA soundfont?

Well, I don't want to use it all with vA2, just physical buttons and sliders to control it from, instead of using the touch monitor.  It is distracting to use the monitors, because they are mounted on the side of my setup, as you might have seen on one of my other posts.  I much prefer to use physical buttons and sliders. A person get's to automatically know where each control is almost without looking, but with a touch monitor, I do not have such a good experience.
