You could have your SPLIT POINT set too low.
#2
I use a Motif XS rack, and I put it in MULTI MODE and select the GM bank.
I do not know what MODE on the MOXF you need to set it to.
#3
It is on page 14 in the manual.
There are 2 bank select buttons.
#4
I believe you have to select the GM Bank on the MOXF6.

Scores / Re: Scores from Gerard
December 24, 2015, 12:24:18 PM
I uploaded again fakebook3 and fakebook4.
#6
Preset 5 makes the buttons trigger.
Preset 4 makes buttons toggle.
Presets 1, 2, and 3 are primarily for DAW's.

The key action is almost as fast as the TYROS 5, as I do not want Hammer action.
It has been difficult to find an 88 key without a hammer action of some sort.

I use the Yamaha Motif XS rack and some TYROS 4 soundfonts now and I am waiting to hear the TransAudio soundengine to see if it is better than what I have now.

#7
I wanted a midi controller that was 88 keys, semi-weighted, but better than M-audio keystation 88, sliders, buttons, knobs and pads.
The answer I found was the Nektar LX88 and it was not that expensive.
It is selling almost everywhere for $299.99 USD.
I got lucky and got one from Ebay for $175.00 USD, that was an open box, unused.
I received it on Tuesday and started to program it from vArrangers CONTROLLER list.
The keyboard has 5 presets. Preset 5 allows the buttons to trigger not toggle which is good.
The pictures show the keyboard, and how I put labels for different functions.
Also, a picture of my Yamaha Motif XS rack, my MIDI in and out settings, pedal controller which I use with a volume pedal to control RIGHT volume, and my Edirol m-10DX mixer which has built in effects.
You may also notice my Tyros 5 - 76 key in the background which I hope to replace by using vArranger.
I have over 300 styles to revoice and reset volumes which will take some time.
#8
I do not know any of the CG numbers of the resets in VB3
I got it. They are in the left dro down list.
Thanks....
#9
I just bought VB3.
Fist of all, VB3 is great!
Finally, nice Jimmy Smith organ sounds!

I installed it and use it as VST MIDI OUT 3.
I called up a preset, and saved it as a RIGHT SOUND.

If I call up another preset, and then press the RIGHT SOUND I saved, I get the current preset, not the one I saved.
I wanted to save about 3 different presets but can not figure out how to do it.

BTW, the modulation wheel on my controller works the leslie from SLOW to OFF to Fast, which is nice.
#10
I may get the Nektar LX88 and only need one keyboard then.
#11
Thanks Dan. I will let you know when I get my setup complete.
I may be getting a Nektar LX 61 (for upper manual) which has a lot of controls on it and a Nektar iX61 (for lower manual).
#12
Thanks Dan, I revised my post.

I added this too.

But it brings to mind a scenario if you have 2 keyboards (MIDI IN 1 and MIDI IN 2), a nanocontrol (MIDI IN 3) and a midi foot controller (NO MIDI IN available), there are not enough MIDI IN's
#13
I was wrong. My MIDI IN 3 is set to UM-ONE
I have MIDI OUT 3 available.

Current setup for MIDI outs.
MIDI OUT 1 Motif Rack XS
MIDI OUT 2 vArranger Software Synthesizer

Thinking about adding VB3 as a VST for organ sounds.

But it brings to mind a scenario if you have 2 keyboards (MIDI IN 1 and MIDI IN 2), a nanocontrol (MIDI IN 3) and a midi foot controller (NO MIDI IN available), there are not enough MIDI IN's
#14
The only sounds going to MIDI OUT 2 are my soundfonts.
I have to call up each of my soundfonts, set each to MIDI OUT 2 and then save the sound.
#15
If  varranger synthetiser is in the out1, then it uses the  varranger synthetiser sound fonts for the GM style parts.
If varranger synthetiser is in the out2, and mode is set to Motif, I still have to SEND TO MIDI OUT 2
#16
I just did some experimenting and found I have to call up each of my soundfonts, set each to MIDI OUT 2 and then save the sound.
That seems like a lot of work....
#17
Hi all, it has been a while since I posted.
It might be better to state what I am trying to do to make it easier to understand my problem.
I want to use the Motif rack for General Midi sounds and other select sounds of my choosing from the different banks.
I also want to use some soundfonts I have.

I have a USB connection from Motif into computer.
I have UM-One from midi out to Motif Rack.

Setting 1:
If I set
MIDI 1 to Yamaha Motif XS -1
MIDI 2 to Varranger synthesizer
all the GM sounds from the Motif play but none of the soundfonts in SAMPLES directory play.

Setting 2:
If I set
MIDI 1 to Varranger synthesizer
MIDI 2 to  Yamaha Motif XS - 1 or UM-ONE
none of the Motif sounds work.

I hope someone can help me out. Thanks in advance.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Re: My Setup
September 08, 2013, 01:03:41 AM
Hi John,
That setup you saw was when I had my Audya.

I have a new setup now:

M-audio 88es keyboard
Yamaha Motif XS rack.
TC Helicon Voicelive 2 (for vocal harmonies)
Korg NanoKontrol2
Behringer X1222 USB mixer (with effects)
Dell XPS 18 Touch Screen computer
(2) QSC K12 speakers
Shure SM58 microphone.

I am working everything out now with different tests.
When I am ready, I will be making a video showing the setup and explain the connections to make it work.
I use primarily Yamaha styles and found the Yamaha Motif Rack gave me better sounds than the SD1000.
I had a TYROS 4, just sold it, and wanted to get as close as I could to that sound.

Gerard

#21
Selling my Ketron SD1000 that is about 3 weeks old for $500 USD. PM me for more info.

I use mostly Yamaha styles and decided to go with a Motif XS Rack.

I will be selling my Yamaha MOX6 when I get the rack for $700 USD.

Also I have a Behringer FCB1010 for sale for $100 USD.

And a Yamaha MFC10 for sale for $200 USD.

And lastly, a Ketron FS13 Footswitch for $100 USD.

PM me for any of these, I am getting rid of a lot of stuff I don't use anymore..
#22
It worked perfect!

I see that selecting, MASTER RIGHT, for example, allows the visibility of all saved multiple sounds.

Thank you so much!

I have 167 songs from my TYROS 4 reconfigured in vArranger.
I have another 100 or so more to go!

Then I will be selling my TYROS 4.

I do not know if you can use two USB midi cables.
In theory it should work.
I only have to use one.
This is something that maybe Dan could answer about using 2 USB midi cables.
Sorry I can't help you further.

Noticed a peculiarity after I saved a RIGHT HAND  sound setup.

First, I assign voices to RIGHT1, 2, 3, 4 and/or 2nd Voice.

Then, I SAVE RIGHT SOUND, name it, and put it into the sound bank I want, say, PIANO sound bank with a name like PIANO STRINGS1.

If I exit vArranger, start it up again, and push the PIANO sounds button, PIANO STRINGS 1 is there.

Now the problem; if I want to change RIGHT 1, for instance from GRAND PIANO to ROCK PIANO, it will change the sound while playing a song.

But, after I stop the song, and select the PIANO sounds button, only the SD1000 piano sounds are there, none of the saved sounds are there.

To get them back, I have to exit vArranger and restart it, press the PIANO sounds button and the saved sounds are there.

Am I missing something? Or am I not doing something in a proper sequence?

I had the FS13 pedal hooked to the Audya when I still had the Audya.

The Behringer FSB1010, I connect using a midi cable.
I have a USB MIDI cable with a MIDI IN plug and a MIDI OUT plug.

In vArranger, for 2nd MIDI IN, I select USB Midi Interface.
That connects the FSB1010 to vArranger.
In OPTIONS/CONTROLLER, I assign what I what to the switches or pedals.

There is another TOPIC on connecting the FSB1010 on here, that tells you how to hook it up.

From what I remember, the FS13 pedals have a 15 pin connector and no USB port.
I use the Behringer FSB1010 and works fine

Jon,

The SD1000 is NOT powered by USB.

The TC Helicon Vocielive 2 has to have a midi connection to work right.
Initially, I came out of my 88es keyboard and into the harmonizer.
Then I realized, any transposing will not transmit, because it was before I made a transposition.
The connection has to be after vArranger processing.

The SD1000 can use a USB connection or MIDI cable connection, not both.
The solution was to connect a midi cable to the MIDI THRU on the SD1000 and then into the harmonizer.
And Connect a midi cable from the computer to the MIDI IN of the SD1000.

I found that using CHANNEL 4 on the harmonizer, works best.
CHANNEL 4 is LEFT HAND on vArranger.
Even if I do not have a voice selected for LEFT HAND, a MIDI message is sent for the chord played.

Anyway, it works great.

Gerard
#30
I solved the problem.

Instead of using a USB connection for the SD1000, I am using the MIDI cables.
I go from the MIDI THRU on the SD1000 to the MIDI IN on the Voicelive.

The MIDI messages from the SD1000 are post-processing and contain the correct pitch.
#31
Plug USB Midi cord into computer.
Midi out jack into Midi in on TC Helicon Voicelive 2.

In OPTIONS, set MIDI 2 output to USB MIDI Interface.

Sing a song, say in the key of C.
Vocal harmonies are fine and resolve with chord changes.

Transpose song to -2
Play song in the key of D. The same as playing in the key of C.
Voicelive 2 is not receiving notes transposed.

Play songs in original key and transpose for my voice which is why I would like this to work.

Anybody got any ideas?
#32
Terry,
I had an SD2, so I can't compare the SD1000 to the SD4. And the voices, for me, are much better, and I love the Live drums.

I like the Voicelive because I can change harmonies by just changing chords, while singing one note.

Good to be back on here.
I was wrapped up in a Tyros 4 for 1 1/2 years. LOL

Bought my SD100 from thomann.de for 407 euros delivered to the USA.
I did not want to wait for it to get to the USA stores.
It took about a week from time of ordering to receiving it.

Took it out of the box and it setup just fine.
I use a m-audio ES-88 keyboard.
I also use a Behringer FCB1010 pedal board.
And I have a TC Helicon Voicel live 2 for vocal harmonies.
I midi out of the m-audio into the TC Helicon and USB out of the m-audio into the computer.

SD1000 Voices are better than I thought.
Starting to experiment around with the live drums for some of my songs.

Most all of the Tyros 4 styles work just fine.
Sometimes have to mute the Perc track because of weird sounds.

I bought over 100 styles for Tyros 4 from d-o-o.de.
These are song specific styles including intros.
So far, they are working fine on vArranger and SD1000.

I must have unplugged the SD1000 by pulling out the power cord from the unit and not shutting it off and it blew the fuse!
I bought some .5 amp (500 Milli), to have on hand if I forget to turn it off with the switch again.

One thing I wish would be a list of Yamaha sounds to SD1000 sounds.
It would make it a lot easier to setup on the SD1000.
I have 300 songs in the Tyros 4 songbook to convert to vArranger.

I went to musiciansfriend.com and did a search for Halion Sonic.

There will be 2 listings.

One for $124.99 and the other one $200+.

Guess which one you should get. LOL

Gerard

Bernie,
Anybody can get it.

Make sure you look for the educational version, which is the same as the normal one.

They do not check for credentials.

I saw it on eBay for $124.99.

Gerard
#36
Hi All,
If you are buying the Halion Sonic, you should be able to get the education version for $125 USD.
Try eBay or Musiciandsfriend.

I have replaced many of the standard GM sounds in Halion Sonic with better sounds in Halion Sonic.
The better sounds are bigger but do not take a long time to load.

If you need to know how to do it, let me know.

Eventually, I can see this replacing the SD2, if Dan can get it tweaked.

The sampled sounds are amazing!

Hi one,
It looks like it may still be a problem with calibrating.

When you calibrate the expression pedals, you have to go through the full range of motion.

Meaning, from all the way back to all the way down and back again.

I have mine set up, one expression pedal for style volume and one for voice volume and works fine.

If I transposed a song down -3 in vArranger and saved it in MY SONGS, copied the .sty to Tyros 4, And played the .sty on Tyros 4, would the .sty come up transposed -3.

Gerard
#44
I may be getting a Tyros 4 to play around with and use as a backup.
Question:
Can the songs I made and saved in vArranger MY SONGS be copied to the Tyros 4 and played there?
I know only Yahama styles would be eligible not the Ketron styles.
This way, once a song is saved in vArranger, I would be able to play it also on the Tyros 4.

I'll put it this way.
I opened up the box and in 20 minutes I had it calibrated and assigned all the functions I needed to it.
I have been using it ever since.

Gerard
#48
Hi jan1kow,

The Behringer FCB1010 is very easy to set up.
It takes 5 minutes.
The main thing before hooking it up to vArranger, is to calibrate the expression pedals.
It is right in the manual and easy to do.
Then once you put the USB cable in your computer set it up as a second or third midi input.
If you put it as the second input, make sure you have "Play Notes" OFF!
In options, select Controllers, and scroll down to a function you want the pedal to do.
For example, you could scroll down to Arranger A, make sure you highlight it, and press Pedal 1, for example.
vArranger will show the connection.
Continue this until you have all the switches and pedals assigned the way you want.

Everyone has been so nice to me, I thought I would share some Midi files with all of you.
These are songs that are fairly new, within the last 5 years.
I believe they were made from the mp3 for the song.
And they are very, very close to the original song structure.
Try the Michael Buble songs, they are exceptional.
Yes, there are 1,184 different songs in here!
Just unrar it.
Enjoy,

I just bought Halion Sonic from musiciansfriend.com for $124.99. It is the educational edition for teachers.
I may be asked by them for teaching credentials, and I have a corporation for training that should work.
I am curious to see how much better it is than the HyperSonic 2.

Gerard
#55
Hi,
Thanks for the tip.
I installed Cantabile Lite, that one is free, and it works great.

I found if I always MUTE the PERC track almost all the styles I tried work.
Some voices need to be tweaked also.

It can be a nice backup also if your hardware breaks.

Gerard

I installed the Hypersonic 2 on my win7 64bit computer and it works perfectly.
I just installed it on my main win7 64 bit computer and when I try and run it, I get the message"VSTI player has stopped working".
It will not come up.
I even copied all the files from my other computer.
Do I have something installed on the first computer that I do not have installed on the second?
If so, I do not know what it is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gerard
#57
Hi Dan,
Did you get me email?
Gerard
#58
Got it working fine.
I had to reboot for some reason.
Sounds are amazing.
I found a couple of glitches.
If you use the sound Pedal Steel, for example, Hypersonic pulls up Karimba Drums.
And on some .PAT styles, you have to mute the PERC channel because of a wrong setting also.
If all the differences can be changed to ones that work, this may even be better than the Ketron SD2.
Gerard
#59
Actually I have it connected but no sound coming out.
Hypersonic has the style loaded.
It is receiving the notes when I start but no sound.
#60
I can't get vArranger to use Hypersonic 2.

And did you get my email?
Thanks.

Gerard
#61
I bought the Behringer FCB1010 for $137 USD, new, from eBay.
I believe this is the same one that is pictured in the vArranger manual.

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/FCB1010.aspx

To setup, the absolulute first thing that must be done is to calibrate the expression pedals or they will not work.
Just follow instructions in the manual.

Then, in Varranger, Options, Controllers, simply press the switch or expression pedal that you want to work for that function.

Personally, I use switches for start/stop, arrangerB, arrangerC, arrangerD, Transpose + and Transpose -.
The left expression pedal I use to control the volume for Left/Right Volume.
The right expression pedal I use for Style Volume.

Just one expression pedal alone would cost up to $50, and you could not separate the volume like you can on the Behringer.

That's my  2 cents for whatever it is worth.

Thanks for the update.
Once you get the virtual sound software done, it will definitely make vArranger a stand alone product.
Thoughts on that, would each sound be tweak-able to change the sample used?
And I hope there will be no problems running it on 64 bit machines.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Re: Harmony?
January 24, 2012, 01:08:47 PM
A suggestion, harmony could be set for the first voice only.
I could see if it was allowed on all 5 right had voices, it would get very muddy, sound wise.
Keeping it simple, add a harmony button, associated with the first right hand voice.

Also, if a page was added to options for type of harmony then it would be assigned globally no matter what sound is selected.
In a future release, add more options to assign a different type of harmony for each voice.
That setting would be stored with the voice characteristics.

My two cents worth is a globally set harmony might be the quickest way to add a feature that would be very, very much appreciated can be revised in later releases to make it more robust.
Gerard

The vArranger² Software Forum / Harmony?
January 23, 2012, 06:51:58 PM
On Korg, Roland, Yamaha and Ketron arrangers there is a form of harmony.
In most instances, when a button is pressed, the voice selected, follows the left hand chords and plays a three or four part harmony.
If you hold a note on the voice, and play different chords for the style with your left hand, the harmony resolves around the chord played.

This is the single biggest feature, that if added to vArranger, I think, would be well received by all vArranger users.

I had loaded the factory styles from the Audya 4.
I will try and load the User Styles and see what happens as there are some older styles in there.
Do you know when vArranger will be able to read Audya styles?

I did get to load all the styles from the Tyros 4, got a "Bad Style Header" message ,but they all played.

My dilemma is that I have over 200 registrations for my songs on the Audya. I wanted to redo them in vArranger but need the styles to do so.
Otherwise, I would have to find a comparable style from the Tyros 4 styles for each registration.

When I found out vArranger read Ketron styles, I assumed it would read Audya styles.

Hi all,
I just got finished making my cabinet out of red oak board and staining it cherry, then finished with gloss urethane.
Speakers are Behringer (2) 15" plus horn tweeters in each cabinet.
I also have a 15" Audio Research sub-woofer 600Watts RMS with a Kevlar speaker cone.
My mixer I use at home is this Behringer. The one I use gigging is a Behringer PMP-6000.
The Amp is a Behringer 2000 Watts RMS.
The computer is a Gateway 21" all-in-one with a touch screen. Works great.
And the keyboards are M-Audio 88es.

Gerard

Hi Dan,
I just ordered an SD2, and I am going to use that for vArranger.
I have the keyboards hooked up by USB to vArranger on the PC.
I also have the keyboards hooked up by midi cables to the Audya 4.
When I play using vArranger, I will just turn down the volume on the Audya and visa-versa.
This way everything will work.
I have a 20 channel mixer I can feed the outputs from the SD2.

Gerard
#75
Hi Dan,
Thanks for the tip. It got me thinking.
I used USB connections for both Keyboards and the Audya.
The Audya is set to USB Midi "ON".
I set both keyboards to transmit on Midi channel 1.
On vVaranger Midi options, I set the second keyboard to play notes.
On the Audya 4, I set the Midi option to "General".
The settings were left at Right 1, Left 2, Bass 5 and Drums 10.
Both keyboards work great.

To get 2 keyboards to work strictly with Audya 4 without vArranger,
I use midi out from both keyboards.
I went into Midi in 1 and Midi in 2(Kybd).
The trick is to get the Midi in 1 to talk with Midi in 2.
I found the answer on ketron.it, in the FAQ's section, Under Midi, "Connecting 2 keyboards to Audya".
The short answer is to Press "GM Part"
Then press USER 5/10 button.
Press the F5 function key and change the setting from "Port 1" to "Port 2".

Essentially, this converts the Midi in 1 socket to a "Keyboard" socket.

After you digest all of that, I have not been able to play both vArranger styles and Audya 4 styles with the same setup.
I either get cross talk or everything slows down drastically.
Regards,
Gerard

I did the and the message "USB Connection" came up, so I changed it to "ON".

FYI
I tried a Roland BK-7m, Tyros 4, and a Korg PA3x and sold them all.
That is how I ended up with the Ketrons I have.
I paid $4500 USD for the 76 key, new,  and then got a deal on a used Audya 4 for $2500 USD including the 13 pedal footswitch and a case.
There was a plethora of custom styles on the Audya 4 and I copied all of them to the 76 key.
I have a midi merger coming today and I am going to see if I can fix everything with it.
I will set one keyboard to channel 1 and the other to channel 2.

Hi Bernie,
So far, I have gotten vArranger and one keyboard to work with my Audya 4.
I haven't been able to use that same keyboard to play the styles from the Audya 4.
I haven't been able to use a second keyboard with vArranger either.
The Audya has the Channel RX screen to set Left (2) and Right (1) and Global to (1)
The Audya has a Midi Utility screen for Port 1 or Port 2.
Trying all kinds of different combination and so far no luck.

I have a 22" touchscreen Gateway All-In-One computer.
I also have an Audya 76 key as well.
Debating whether to keep the Audya 4 or the 76 key.
I have (2) M-Audio 88 key Midi controllers.

It will be nice when a "Harmony" function is added to vArranger.

Gerard

I recommend opening up both the French version and the English version at the same time.
Then when you are on a specific page in the English one, you can refer to the pictures in the French one.

Thank you. That answers my questions. I guess I will bite the bullet and buy vArranger now.

I converted the French manual to English but did not get the pictures in.

If I understand you correctly, you have a keyboard connected to the PC, and the USB from the PC to the Audya.
When I plug in a USB from my Audya to the PC, my screen says "USB Connection".
How do I play the styles from the Audya as well a the styles from vArranger?

Hi Dan,
Can I connect the Audya from the computer with a midi cable?
That way I think both keyboards will send midi info to the Audya if I want to use the styles in the Audya.
I have been playing since 1960.
Playing guitar back then, in the service, I backed up for USO shows.
Played for Chubby Checker, Bobby Vee, Bobby Rydel, Connie Stevens and more.
Switched to keyboard in the 70's.
Have done one man bands and playing in bands.
Now I do Moose clubs, American Legion posts, seniors etc.

My goal with vArranger2 is to play the Yamaha styles and converted Korg PA3X styles, with Style works on vArranger2 and my Ketron built in styles on the Audya.
The Audya has live drums, and live guitars which are great.
Also, the Audya has "Program Voices", which allow me to set up 3 different voices on three different parts of the keyboard.
Example of use: Playing any big band song, playing the lead say with a trumpet, and then immediately answering back with a sax section from another part of the keyboard.

Gerard

Can I use 2 midi controllers with vArranger?
If so, how would I hook them up?
I would like one keyboard to play the chords and lower sounds.
I would like the other keyboard to play the upper sounds.
I would probably use my Audya 4 for the sounds.
I know I would use the midi out from the computer to the midi in of the Audya 4.
And lastly, if that all works, can I still play the styles from the Audya 4 with my keyboards plugged into my computer.
Thanks,
Gerard

I bought a Ketron Audya. It is much better than the Korg Pa3x.
I forgot to save the internal styles, some of them are great.
I downloaded the .pkg that has the internal styles in it, but can't extract them, they have to be loaded on a PA3x.
I am hoping someone has saved them and can post them.
I did download the bonus styles and have those.

I have the EMC Style Works for Ketron and can convert them.
It would be nice to convert those styles....

I saw that the Yamaha Tyros 4 internal styles are available for download.
Does anybody have the Korg PA3x internal styles?
I have been holding off buying Varranger because of it.
I used to own a Korg PA3x until I got a Ketron Audya.
The Audya is way better but lacks some styles that were excellent in the PA3x.
Thanks....
