I have some of my Midi hardware, that I would like to use with vArranger2. I'm looking for the .INS files (if they are available).

They are as follows:
1. Yamaha MU15 tone generator
2. Korg PA-300
3. Technics SX-EN2 - This is also an old midi organ but works beautifully.
4. Casio LK300TV
5. Yamaha PSR-295
6. Ashton Aurora 100 digital piano.

Thank you Carlo.  Yes, there are small computers for vArranger, but I am hoping to use Raspberry Pi 4 model B because it is very cheap really very small.
#3
There are some people working to get Windows 10 working on the Raspberry Pi 4B.  I'm eagerly waiting for this to be finalized, then I can build a portable keyboard solution for vArranger, and not the monstrosity I am currently using - a 2 manual + pedal vArranger organ. Them my vArranger setup can be more like the commercial professional arranger keyboards on the market.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Korg PA-300 users
August 24, 2020, 09:40:01 AM
I'm looking for Korg PA-300 users. I am using vArranger2, Korg PA-300, Yamaha PSR-295.  I know they are not the most powerful Korg or Yamaha keyboards, but it is all I can afford. I want to get .INS file for Korg PA-300 and also for Yamaha PSR-295. If anybody has this please let me know.
Also, has anybody perhaps converted some Yamaha and other styles to Korg format, I am looking for some to try on my Korg, when I am not in the mood for playing on my vArranger organ. My vArranger organ is almost complete.  It is a Yamaha E5 organ that I have converted to work with vArranger. I have added 64 potensiometers, and over 128 switches and 128 LED's, using 2 midi encoders and 1 midi decoder. I still have to build in my 10 inch screen before the organ is complete.  For the moment I am using a large 23 inch screen standing on the organ, but I want to get rid of it and only use a built-in 10 inch screen. I might be adding a 3'rd manual which is a Yamaha PSR-295 keyboard that I have made possible to install in this Yamaha E-5 organ, so it will have 3 manuals + pedalboard at the bottom.  Inside the cabinet I have 2 x 4 channel amplifiers built in, giving me 2 channels and 2 subwoofers. Inside is also a built-in i7 computer with 16 gig ram, using 1 SSD to boot from and another SSD to store the data on - all the styles and midi files. This is for my own entertainment.  I will try to attach a photo of my vArranger organ. It remdinds me of Star Trek - my organ could probably come off the USS Enterprise :)

Hello Dan,

Thank you for fixing it, I managed to get it installed now, and it seems to be working.  I just need to reconfigure the channels and copy the style files to the right place.
Regards,
Brian.
#7
Did you receive it now, I sent it via wetransfer as you sugested.
#8
OK.  I found the button.  But I cannot attach a file there.
#9
I cannot see it Dan. I've tried sending a mail to dan@varranger.fr but the mail is not going through.
#10
Where can I sent the files to, do you have an e-mail adress?
#11
Dan, my version is version 1.19.  It seems to be the last version before you started with the 'subscribe' system.
Do you want me to send you the .exe file?  I also cannot install the vArrangerSynth.exe, Windows says that the published has been blocked.

Please help.
Regards,
Brian.
#12
Thank you Dan.  I don't have money to subscribe, so I will send you the file instead.
#13
HI Dan, it is a red message.
#14
I upgraded my computer to an SSD boot disc, and had to re-install everything. Now I cannot get vArranger to work at all.  It is extremely frustrating. I get this error:

I still have not definitive answer.  It is simple. Sompe places you say that we will still get free updates, but only once a year.  Then it changes again, we have to pay for all updates.  I am still confused. Please answer the simple question with either a "Yes" or "No" - I don't need a long explanation.  The question is:  Will we still ever get free updates?  The answer must be just one word - Yes or No.

Well Dan, it's no reason to be sarcastic - nobody can provide updates (free or paid) for 100 years.  I still believe that I was promised free updates for life.  And you now expect me to pay? This is a good way to alienate your early and even other customers.
#20
I don't think I received version 1.19.

Dan, please clear something up for me.  I am very confused.  When I bought vArranger I was under the impression that all updates will be free to me, for life.  If I sell my license, then a new person has to pay you a once-off fee, because you will have to spend time helping that new customer that bought my license.

Will I have to pay now suddenly in order to receive updates that were promised as being free?

Please advise.

Brian

Dan, I last got an update in 2018.  Has there been an update that I have missed?

IT is entirely possible and not too difficult for anybody to create a new custom interface GUI for vArranger2 using the free and open source jOrgan software.  Just google jOrgan and you will find it.  Extremely useful software.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Re: "LEFT" voices
October 12, 2018, 01:17:43 PM
Dan, it is really confusing.

Sometimes, it works, and other times, it does not work.  I do not want the left voices on by default.  So When it is on for a song, I select the "Left" close to the master volume, then I click "Off", then I "Save Song" as you indicated with the left and right sounds.  As soon as the Save operation completes, the sound button comes on again, by itself.  It is really frustrating me.
#31
Dan, perhapz for next release will you add fine tuning to varranger please?
#32
If the vst's cannot tune, it will be a disaster for people using vst's.
#33
I am using the midi boutque 320x64 console encoder.  I've already spoken to Jordan Petkov.  In order to change the messages in the midi encoder, I will have to buy a new chip from Midi Boutique, and I am not willing to do that.  It will limit the functionality of the encoder. I will rather adapt software on the computer, like in the case of the virtual pipe organ software called GrandOrgue.
#34
I am using the standard software synth that comes with vArranger................
#35
No, this interface cannot be edited that way, unfortunately.

If vArranger could only have responded to note off messages as well, like the other virtual organ software GrandOrgue does.......

#36
ok.  I have the organ playing again. Got a new SSD and had to re-install everything.  Will make daily backups from now on. I don't have a synthesizer.  I use an organ console that I midified myself, using a midi encoder from Midi Boutique.  It has 5 channels that can each send note on and note off messages for 64 contact, giving a total of 320 contacts.

#37
Dan, my new SSD crashed this morning. I will post as soon as it is set up again.
#38
Yes, I did Dan.  I'm not satisfied with using toggle switches in vArranger.  I will have to make another plan, because using them is simply too unreliable and unpredictable.  My interface does send exactly those messages as you indicated.

The vArranger² Software Forum / tuning in vArranger
October 09, 2018, 02:26:33 PM
When I play along to the radio or cd's, vArranger is sometimes slightly out of tune.  I cannot find anywhere to fine-tune vArranger2.  Am I just missing it, or is it not currently possible to retune vArranger in cents?
#40
And here are examples of toggle switches that I would like to use.  These switches have two positions, on or off. There are a few more toggle switches I want to use.  I also have a toggle switch that looks much like a traditional Leslie switch, with 3 positions - slow, stop, and fast.  Is it possible to make this happen reliably?
#41
Dan, I also use other software, like Hauptwerk Advanced Edition, as well as the free GrandOrgue software. In GrandOrgue, we can choose what type of event trigers something.  We can use momentary switches as well as toggle switches with great sucess.  Look at the choices that have been implemented in GrandOrgue as an example where we can assign an on / off function to a toggle switch.  See the attached screenshot, noting all the choies in "Event" dropdown menu. This is where one can choose the correct setting for either a momentary switch, or a toggle switch.  Can you do something simmilar in vArranger?
#42
Using the toggle switches is not stable.  One has to repeatedly toggle them tfor the same function, not one way for on and the other way of off.
#43
Dan, it only woprks well if I use pushbuttons on my console.  If I use toggle switches, it does work but not very well.  does it mean I cannot use my toggle switches with vArranger2?
#44
I will check.  If it is a toggle switch, I must select "Is Switch", and if it is a normally open momentary switch, I must uncheck "Is Switch"?
#45
Thank you Dan. That has solved the problem.  For some reason, I thought, it was automatically detected.  Another mistake I made was to leave the "Learn" button switched on, and then it lost the information as well.  As soon as I realized I had to 'switch off' the "Learn" button, those two midi controllers worked.  But not perfectly yet.  I have quite a few toggle switches on my console as well, and would want to use them, for example, if the switch is in one position, the Rotator must be on Slow, and in the other position, it must be on Fast... Can I change the "Midi Data Type" which is "Note On" by default, so something else, to allow this, and what should I change it to?
#46
Here is my vArranger2.ini file...
#47
Yes.  I am trying only 2 controllers to start with, until I understand what to do.  I assign the value of "1" to the "Rotor Run" and 2 to "Rotor Speed".  I have tried a million times. Every time I start vArranger with new hope, that perhaps I will get it working this time.  But no luck so far.  And vArranger does not seem to remember it anyway, because when I restart, I have to do everything over anyway.

#48
I open, and get B4II on the screen.  Then I hit the "+", and it brings up the dialogue box where there is a list of controlers.  Then I select the "Learn VST controler", and then in the VST window, I move the "Rotary On" switch.  I can see it changes the value in the "Learn" dialogue box.  Then I press the physical button on my console.  I can see vArranger can see I have pressed the button, as there is a quick flash on the midi monitor midi plug number one in vArranger, just above "L".  But nothing I do will make B4II respond to the physical button press.
#49
I tried today.  I cannot get it to work.

I use a midi encoder with 6 channels.  Channel 1 is for 64 analogue rotary encoders.  Channel 2 to 6 is for 64 digital inputs each, giving a total of 320 inputs.  This midi encoder is called a "console encoder", as it has enough resources to encoder a 5 manual + pedal organ console.  I am using it in my 3 manual + pedal encoder.  So with vArranger I have set it up to work as follows: Channel 2 is for pedals, channel 3 is for lower manual, and channel 4 is for upper manual.  It works well.  I can get B4II to play inside of vArranger.  I have followed the instruction as I understand it, for the vsti control.  But I cannot get it to work.  I want to be able to press a physical switch to control some of the parameters in B4II, like "Rotor On" and "Rotor Speed".  I am battling with the "Learn" function.

Thank you Dan.

The vArranger² Software Forum / vArranger and VSTi's
October 07, 2018, 01:23:46 PM
I managed to get some sound using the following combination:
vArranger2 + B4II.

I want to use a hardware momentary normally open switch, or a toggle switch, to switch the Leslie between stop and run, as well as the speed between slow and fast.  I am not getting anywhere with it.  I cannot use B4II "Learn" function, as nothing happens.  I can also not use the vArranger "Learn" function, because nothing happens.

Also, is there another drawbar type vsti with "learn" capability, that only has 1 keyboard, I don't need B4II for this, as it is an overkill.

Please give me some advice.

I am in the end stages of building my vArranger setup.  It is a 40 year old Yamaha E5 console organ, with 3'rd added manual, and 25 pedals.  I have installed a lot of new 'pistons' between the original two manuals, and they work very well with vArranger.  They are all 'momentary normally open' switches.  There are also a lot of original toggle switches in this organ, that I have wired up, and use in other programs. Since using this converted organ console, it has really brought vArranger experience to life for me.

Brian.

Dan,

Thank you.  That worked.  I am happy again.

Hi Oliver,

Thank you, I put vArranger back on my computer. I don't understand why all the antivirus software says it is a virus - a trojan. I am worried about that. I have now managed to put it in the 'allowed' list, so Windows defender will no longer take it off my machine, it will ignore it during scans.

Brian.
#55
And now it has removed my vArranger from the computer.
#56
I have done a clean install, on a new computer - the computer built into my new organ console.  It keeps on complaining about vArranger being a dangerous virus.  I only use the standard Microsoft virus stuff that comes with Windows 10.

The vArranger² Software Forum / "LEFT" voices
October 05, 2018, 01:33:51 PM
When I open any style, it automatically also switches on "Left1".  I don't always check it, and when I start playing, it almost gives me a heart attack, because it sounds absolutely horrible.  I then switch off "Left1", and save it, thinking it will resolve this problem. However, directly after the "Save" operation is complete, the "Left1" voice turns back on again.  Please tell me what to do to keep "Left1" permanently off - it should only come on when I want it to come on.

#58
Dan,

I would also like to get the new update when released please.

Regards,
Brian.
#59
Is nobody interested in such a feature?
#60
I am using vArranger on a 3 manual organ, with pedalboard attached. I find that one manual is really only to play chord on, another manual is for the "right" section, and has 5 voices.  The 3'rd manual plays the 'left' part, and has 3 voices.  This is more than enough for me to play with.
#61
Sorry I cannot answer in French, only English or Afrikaans.

You can download Impulse Respose files by searching "Impulse response" on Google.
#62
My midi interface does not have this function.  It can only send Note On / Note Off messages, and CC messages.

So I'm hoping that Dan will create some controller in vArranger, that one could assign buttons too, e.g., the Joystick would make a great pitch-bend controller, as it is self centreing and spring loaded, just like on the keyboards that have them built in.  It will really be fabulous to have this function available, for those of use who use midi interfaces that do not natively supply this function.

#63
I second your request. I would also like this. My 3 manual organ project which will run exclusively on vArranger2, does not have Pitch or modulation wheel function, so some CC's for this will really be awesome.

April 09, 2018, 09:02:53 AM
That seems to be a spectacular module, hope it sounds great too.  But at that price - wow, too expensive for me.
#65
Hi, no. it will require additional coding by Dan.
#66
The simulator currently runs using jOrgan (Java Organ) and runs in Java. It is in no way connected to vArranger.  It uses a soundfont that is loaded into Fluidsynth.  We currently use jOrgan software to run various church organs, theatre organs, Hammond organs, etc etc.
#67
Just a thought. I use a drawbar organ simulator, that uses a sountfont as the source of the oscilators. Could this be incorporated in the VArranger software synthesizer? The one I use runs on Fluisynth soundfont synthesizer.

Hi, can anybody possibly help me with a "Wah-brass" soundfont?

Thank you all in advance.

I've been quite busy the last couple of days.  I've looked for ways to add labels onto the organ console, so that I know what each button does.  My solution was to use Artline 444XF Paint Marker.  They are available in white, silver, gold - possibly other colours too.  I made some labels as you can see, but the solution was short lived.  These pens are expensive, and with each pen, I can only write about 40 characters, and then the pen becomes unusable - so that solution will not work for me.  I cannot pay 4 Euro for a pen that will only write 40 letters.

I will use Brother label printer to mark my other buttons. It is not the best solution, but it is the best that I can find.  I cannot find any dry transfer alphabet decals in our shops, but years ago, we had them in our shops.
I've started sanding down the body of the organ, it is a big job, because I don't want to use machine to sand it down.  The reason is because it is laminated wood, I have to work very lightly, so that I do not damage the laminate.  When done, I will spray clear coat on to make it look as good as new.

The tables will also be used again.  I need to find a way to put a new label on the tablet.  The tablets are not momentary, but because it is only me that will play this instrument, I will not to always manually make quick movement with the tablets, so that assigned functions will work correctly.

Next, I need to start installing the faceplate with all the faders and Hammond drawbars, above the upper manual.  I am looking forward to finishing this project, so that I can concentrate on playing much more.
#70
I remember a similar situation a couple of years back.  I thought my midi interface was broken. It turned out, that although the midi encoder was visible to the operating system (Windows 7 at the time), it did not work correctly.  I tried the interface on another computer, and on the other computer (also exactly same Windows 7), the interface did work.  It was not a broken midi interface.  the problem was, I had after re-installing the computer with Windows 7 where the interface was not working as expect, it was using some generic driver.  All I had to do was install the correct driver from the CD that came with my midi interface - and my problem was solved.  In the meantime, I had exchanged my midi encoder for a new one, as I thought it was faulty too, but as it turns out, there was nothing wrong with the encoder.

I hope that helps somewhat.
#71
When in the "Right" section, I was expecting, that when I press the "Solo" button on any of the 5 tracks, that any previously pressed "Solo" buttons in that section would be reset, and also if the channel I was selecting the "Solo" feature on, would be switched on if it was switched off.

But I don't understand how this Solo button is implemented, because, I can press "Solo" on multiple channels.

Please help me understand what the "Solo" buttons are used for.
#72
Hi Dan,

I will only have a sustain pedal, if I also in stall my Yamaha PSR-295.

However, I am trying to see if I can leave out the Yamaha keyboard, which means, I will have to have a sustain function in vArranger with a switch connected to my midi encoder.

#73
In old Yamaha organs, and possibly in other organ as well (Lowry for example) there used to be a miniature printed keyboard of about 30 cm long. You can assign any specific instrument to this keyboard.  You cannot really play a melody on it, because it is too small.  However, when you slide your finger up and or down this little miniature keyboard, it will play a beautiful arpeggio for you, that is based on the chord you are playing on the chord section of your setup.

It is probably a lot of work (or perhaps not)?  If this is implemented in vArranger, one would have the possibility of adding this miniature keyboard as a separate midi input device for vArranger. You then set the sound for it.  Perhaps, one of the channels currently used for "Left" or "Right" can be dedicated to this new feature?

In Midi setup, you could put a check-mark, to activate this feature, or leave it unmarked, if you decide you do not want it, causing "Left" and "Right" as they normally are without it.

When you play a chord in the chord section, for example, you play G7.  You choose a sound (for example, piano) for this miniature keyboard.  You then slide your finger up and down this miniature keyboard, and it plays for you, a perfect arpegio in G7.  Or any chord and any sound, you wish it to use.

Dan if more people are interested in this, would you consider implementing such a feature?

I also don't understand how the Harmony function is working.  I know how it works on my Yamaha arranger keyboard.  There are a few types, and none of the harmony types on my Yamaha keyboard, are key-dependant.  what are the 'keys' doing on the Harmony window?
#75
I want to connect a standard Sustain pedal to my home made setup.  I don't see a controller in the list, that I can use as a Sustain pedal.  Dan, can you please help me, how will I connect a standard sustain pedal to my setup, can you add a controller to the growing list please?
#76
Does the "Velocity" controller switch the velocity for all midi input devices, on and off, or does it set the sensitivity of all midi input devices?
#77
Hi Dan,

Thank you, I see you have made some great midi controllers in this new version that you've sent me - all the extra midi controllers that I asked for, plus some ones that I didn't even know I wanted, until I saw them in your list in vArranger.......  I am very excited. I have a midi encoder that can read 320 digital inputs, and 64 analogue inputs.  I am planning on installing my 2nd midi encoder, which has 128 digital inputs, and 128 digital outputs (combined midi encoder and midi decoder).  So I'll be adding LED's where I can.  On my first encoder, I connected the two manuals and the pedal-board.

I'm still busy applying varnish to my project, before I can start installing the buttons, and then the wiring of the buttons with diodes, and rotary and straight faders, and also my Hammond drawbars, can begin.

#78
Thank you Dan.  I'l lulpdate that list of midi controllers now too.

              313   Track 16 Solo

I want to be able to select the track with a button, and then select the sound I want for that track.

#80
Dan,

Perhaps you have done this already, and I just don't have the right version.

Can I please get the correct version that also has "Track Select 1", "Track Select 2", "Track Select 3", ..................... "Track Select 16", please.  Those will go as buttons on my Yamaha organ upgrade project.

So each channel will then have the following:

Track Select, Track On/Off, Track Solo, and Track Volume.

Guten Morgen Wolfgang.

Brian.

Hi Dan,

In the list of vArranger controllers, I don't see 16 buttons that allow me to directly select any one of the 16 tracks without the mouse.
I only see for each individual track, the following:  Track On/Off, Track Solo, and Track Volume.  But not Track Select.

When will this be available to everybody please? I only have a 7 inch screen in my organ, and it is much easier to use hardware buttons to do this task of track select as well please.

Brian.

I've done a bit of work.  First I tried it painting the woodwork black, using chalk paint.  It was a disaster, and I took it off again.

Because I cannot write so small, I will probably paint the organ panels white tomorrow.  Then my label label machine labels will not be so terrible on the wood background, it will perhaps look better on white background, then the label itself will not be so visible.   What do you think?  I cannot find transfer decal of the alphabet in South Africa, where I live.

#85
Today I got my part back with drilled holes.  I've fitted the switches, but need to put diodes on, and ribbon cable, then I can plug it into the midi encoder.

On the photo you can see all the switches in place.  There are 14 switches in two rows, they are pre-existing Yamaha switches, that were used to select the rhythm.  I am using them for something else.  To the right of them, are two black switches - also original Yamaha switches, I will also use them for something else.

This panel sits next to the upper keyboard.  On the Yamaha organs that I grew up using and loving, this is where the rhythm section was always located.  So, I have put all the arranger functions there as well, of vArranger.

Green buttons are for Intro, blue buttons are for Fill In, and red buttons are for Ending.  Silver buttons are for Tempo, the reg round button is for Start/Stop, and so on.  Colour coding will help me play easier, as I have not got LED's with the switches yet either.

This old Yamaha organ, is now running on Super Steroids!

The vArranger² Software Forum / Endless midi controller

Has anybody though of building an endless midi controller from components?  I don't have any such a device, but would like to have a coulpe of them?
#88
Wow.  That looks great, and very portable. In my current VA project, I am installing a Yamaha PSR 295 arranger keyboard.  I was unsure what to do, but I have to put it in.  The reason is, I had to cut up the Yamaha PSR 295 with a small grinder, in order to make it fit inside the spinet organ.  I can do nothing else with it.  The reason I want to install it in the first place, is because it has some beautiful XG Lite sounds, and of course, my old Yamaha Electone spinet, does not have velocity sensitive keys, but by adding the PSR 295, I get a 61 note manual with velocity sensitive keys.  for me, it is the best of all worlds.  So although it is still only a spinet organ, it will have 3 manuals for VA, as I have grown used to playing VA. I will not use any arranger functions of the PRS295, only the midi keyboard, and the XGLite sounds, and nothing else.

I was really unsure of where to put the PSR 295 manual. In the beginning, I planned to put it as the top of 3 manuals.  Then I thought I would put it as the bottom of three.  This is where it will stay, as the bottom manual of three.  I will move the existing two manuals up, and install the PSR 295 as the bottom manual.

Portability is no issue for me, becasue, I use my VA only to entertain myself, family, and friends.  I never take it anywhere.

This weekend, I will be soldering a lot of diodes and wires, and connecting them to my Midi Boutique encoder.  I look forward to the work very much, it is really satisfying.
#89
My first console, was my converted Hammond E100 with 25 pedals, and 2 X 61 note manuals.

I use this console for my VPO using Hauptwerk, for playing classical and such music.  It ha 5 amplifiers, 5 subwoofers, and 10 audio channels - rr to much for VA.  That is why I decided to make a smaller organ.  I don't really need 61 notes / manual for this type of music that I play on VA.  It is a great solution.
#90
Today, I completed the planning of button placement on my Yamaha organ, to control VA.

I will be keeping 30 original Yamaha switches in the organ, but wiring them to do new functions, especially for vArranger. For now, I will not be adding LED's to some switches - perhaps later.  I have a MIDI decoder that can do LED's for me.

In the photograph, the switches are all placed upside down, but on exactly the right position they will appear.  I need to put one diode on each switch, then connect to ribbon cable, and then plug into MIDI encoder.

When this is done, I have to start building the place where the Hammond drawbars will be installed, together with the track selection knobs and buttons, for each vArranger channel. These controls will all be placed above the upper manual.
#91
Will you please consider making CC messages for Harmony function, like on arranger keyboards with harmony buttons, please.
#92
That sounds great, you have a very powerful computer in your project.  But I am really happy with my LattePanda, for me, this is a miracle.

My 'other ' console, has a complete intel i7 computer built into it, with 2 touch screens, and a 5 disk RAID, and 16 Gig RAM.  It has a 10 channel audio card, with 10 audio channels, and I have installed 5 subwoofers.  But this is not a practical organ for vArranger, because, there are too many audio channels and too many speakers.  On this console, I run virtual pipe organ software, and if I may mention it, it is called Hauptwerk. I prefer this smaller project I am working on for vArranger, it is such a surprised to hear such wonderful sounds, comming out of a 40 year old organ.  My family and friends will be really surprised about what they hear - the sound is usual for very expensive arranger keyboards only.  I have 2 Yamaha arranger keyboards, both are really babies, they are the same ones, PSR 295.  But when I got them, they sounded spectacular.  Now, vArranger surpasses even that with all the styles, and the possibility of adding additional sounds, and also using the XG Lite sounds, built into the Yamaha PSR 295.

Thank you Dan, this software you made, is worth every cent I paid for it.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Midi encoder
February 20, 2018, 06:21:24 PM
While cleaning my switches today and getting everything together, I thought about something today, which could turn out to be a problem for me.

My midi encoder has 5 channels of digitals inputs, each channel has 64 inputs. - Giving total of 320 digital inputs.
This same encoder, has one channel of analogue inputs, and it can read 64 inputs.

I am using this encoder for vArranger in my project.  I have already wired up two manuals and one pedal board.  The digital inputs that are not being used for keys and pedals, will be used for switches, to control vArranger parameters.

Say for example, my midi encoder can transmit midi messages on channel 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

1. Will vArranger be able to read all 5 channels?  I know it can read at least 3 channels for the organ function, but what about extra two channels?
2. The analogue input's on the midi encoder, is on the same channel as the first channel of digital inputs.  Will I be able to use them at all?
#95
Will you please show your creation too please Dan, if you don't mind.  Perhaps, I can get a new idea, if I look at what you are doing.   :)
#96
And finally, my Hammond E100 drawbars, will also be added to vArranger.  I hope to control the VB3 directly from this set of drawbars.  This is a dream come true for me.  All the sliders, rotary faders, and momentary switches for this project has cost me about €300. With all the money I have spent on this project, I could have bought mid Korg, Yamaha, or Roland arranger keyboard.  But I will not have had the pleasure of having exactly the instrument that I want to have.

There are a few more original organ switches that I will be using, like the original expression pedal inside the organ. In South Africa, we can buy old Yamaha organ for about €70 to €75 in the second hand market.  I will try to get another one, one which has 2 manuals of 61 notes, then I will use those manuals instead, and will also use most rhytm buttons as well, but all in the current project.

Photo shows some drawbars and other controls that I already have and will install this week, I hope.
#97
I am slowly making some progress.  I have cleaned the old Rhytm section buttons of my Yamaha console, that is now my vArranger2 console.  I can re-use these buttons, I can disable the locking of buttons very simply, so they change from toggle switches, to momentary switches.  Each button you see (there are 14) has 6 change-over switches, but after my modification, they will have 6 momentary normally open switches.  But, one button only needs one switch, so 5 will be unused per botton.   I will just create new labels on the surface of the organ, to show the new functions of the buttons.  Perhaps not everybody will like doing this, but I love doing this.  It took me over 2 hours to clean the switches.  Tomorrow, I can start putting on dioes and wires.
#98
I am certainly also in favour of this feature.

Having 10 registration memories will be ideal.   They should also please have midi CC buttons to control them from a hardware point of view.  And also a "Next" and "Previous" registration button.

This has been implemented beautifully in some Lowry organs.  You are able to set for each registration memory, the style, left, right bass, everything.  You can set the complete organ to change registration instantaniously, at the touch of one button.

Thank you Vladaelo,  it sounds really promising.

Whilst busy planning the buttons on my organ, I want most used features on physical buttons and sliders, so for this I will install buttons and sliders, connected via my Midi Boutique MIDI encoder. I want to use touch screen as little as possible while playing.

I notice in the list of MIDI controllers for VA, that there are 4 buttons for INTRO, and 4 buttons for Ending. I have only seen one, two, or three buttons on the screen for various INRO and ENDING.  I have not seen 4 of them yet.  Perhaps I am not looking.  What type of style will I find with 4 INRO or 4 ENDING, please give one example.  I don't want to be sorry that I put 3 buttons, when four are need for INTRO, and also for ENDING.

The "Tempo Encoder" in the list of midi controllers for vArranger, I want to know, is this a potentiometer input to control the tempo?

If it is, I want to add a physical rotary potentiometer to my project, so that I can quickly adjust the tempo, just like I was used to doing in my analogue Yamaha organ.

Any advice please?

How do I clear an entry of the Joystick control, if I want to change it to another button on the joystick?
#109
I forgot to report back earlier.  In the beginning I used Asio4All with the LattePanda and my USB soundcard.  When I loaded the VB3, the sound was terrible.  I then discovered that if I use WASAPI driver, I don't need to adjust latency or anything, and the sound quality of both vArranger2 and VB3 working together, is absolutely perfect, with no distortion, stuttering (sound breaking up) no problems.
#110
Hello slavofword,

I use this list, to build a custom vArranger console.  It allows me to have hardware buttons and faders, to control the functions inside vArranger, without having to touch the screen, and I don't have to use the mouse or keyboard either.

Although I will have 2 touch screens on my organ, for me personally it is impossible to play using only a touch screen.  That is why I want to use physical buttons, and physical faders (sliders and rotary buttons).  With vArranger, you can do just this.

Regards,
Brian.

This afternoon I wired these four large buttons to my midi encoder.  Their function has been assigned the job of the four variations of the arranger.  Really easy to access whilst playing, even without thinking about it. These four buttons are original buttons in this console.  Slowly, I am making some progress.
#123
Thank you Dan. That is very exciting news. It means I will have a button for every practical function of vArranger2.
#124
On my midi encoder, there is the posibility of using up to 64 'notes' per channel.  My vArranger console, will only use 49 notes per manual, leaving 15 'notes' unused on given channels.  The pedal section also only has 13 notes. leaving another 51 unused 'notes' on that channel.  I would like to use these unused inputs, for control messages.  For example, I would like to assign vArranger2 functions to these buttons. My question is: If I assign note number 14 on the pedal section, will vArranger not try to play a note, or will it perform the assigned function, or will it try to do both?

It looks at though I will not need to build a Raspberry Pi into my console.

This morning, I got both vArranger2 and one vsti called VB3 working, on the LattePanda computer.

I'm really impressed now.

Now, that the software side is sorted out, I need to start some woodwork on my console.  It's going to have the 7 inch touch screen centre above the original upper manual.  I'll be installing a full set of physical draw-bars, that I hope can work, so I don't have to fiddle on the screen too much.  I might be re-installing my Yamaha PSR 295 above the 2'nd manual, and install the draw-bars and screen above that as well, but that is only a very slight possibility.  I'll be replacing the music stand with a 23 inch Aces touch screen as well, in order to display my sheet music.  The screen can of course double up as a music rest, in case I have to place a music book on it.  But I intend scanning what remains of my physical music collection, and putting it in that 'fake book' pdf format, it is just so convenient and lightweight.

I am really impressed all over again, with vArranger and it's abilities.  This is now becoming my dream organ instrument.  For years I've been looking at the Wersi range of organs - but sadly, thy are not available in South Africa. And after my Hammond E100 broke down, and I was unable to fix it, I was really disappointed. There are some really nice 2'nd hand B3's and many others, with many models of Leslies, available in South Africa, but they are too expensive for me.  I now have something extraordinary, for a fraction of the cost of a Wersi or the likes.

There is the possibility with the LattePanda with Windows 10 Enterprise (this is the one I have) that you can set it up, after everything is working just the way you want it too, you 'lock' the boot media, and nothing can change it, unless you 'unlock' it again.  This way, you can simply turn the power on and off at will, with no possibility of corrupting the boot media.  this is going to ideal for an organ, where we are all used to just turning it on, play, and turn it off straight away...

I will keep you posted on the progress............

Thank you Dan for you help, and for a wonderful software....................

I've increased the latency slightly, and have tried pushing VB3 to it's limits, and there is no longer any sound breakup, even when I continually switch the Leslie simulator on and off, while playing fast, full chords on both manuals, as well as playing the pedalboard.

Next I need to setup boty vA2 and the vsti at the same time.

Will try to figure that out next.

But even if I cannot get the drawbars working, it is still a bonus.  That is all I wanted in the first place, from the LattePanda computer platform.

I will try that Dan.  Just being able to run vArranger on the LattePanda is wonderful in it's own right.  I am happy that it runs so well, on such minimal hardware. There is a drawbar simulator that runs on the Raspberry Pi, that I will investigate.  If it can be controlled via midi messages, I could build a Raspberry Pi into my console as well, as it is even smaller in size compared to the LattePanda.  I can then connect vArranger 2 using the network - IP midi -> Raspberry Pi.  I've sent midi messages (note on and off, and CC's, over Wifi, from one Raspberry Pi, to another one, some distance away - and it works perfectly.  I can however put a small network switch inside the console if this works, then there will be no chance of lost messages.

Even the Allen Organ company uses LAN connections between it's devices, to send control messages from the console.

I will post my result here, one I lower increase the latency somewhat.

OK.  I've done some testing.  VB3 and B4II work fine, untill I switch on the Leslie simulation - then the sound breaks up badly.  So that is not going to work.  Well, I will just add some preset's that I have, for some of my favourite drawbar combinations.  That will do for now.

My preference would be to use VB3, but I will choose between VB3 or Native Instruments B4 II, and take the one that works the best.  Or I will search for one, that only gives draw-bars for the upper manual, if one exists.  Both VB3 and NI B4 II can 'learn' from vArranger. I will need to find a single manual alternative that can also 'learn' from vArranger2. I can currently run VB3 or NI B4 II alone on my LattePanda, with really excellent quality, no latency, and no sound breakup.

I will test tomorrow to see if I can connect vArranger2 and VB3 or NI B4 II.

Thank you Dan.

So this means, I can run vArranger2, and have a vsti running in background.  I'm busy modifying my Yamaha console, and will be adding my unused Hammond drawbar set, connected to my midi encoder.  It wil be really wonderful to be able to play using draw-bars (my favourite type of organ sound for modern music).

My plan is to use my complete set from my old Hammond E100 organ, so it's 9 for upper, 9 for lower, and 2 for pedal.  That is sufficient for me.

Brian.
#136
I've setup vArranger2 in my new organ console project, as described earlier.  It is a 2 manual organ, with pedals.

Setting the split point on the lower manual, allows me to play the melody on the upper manual, and I play the chords on the lower manual.  This is what I expected. However, even if I set the split point for the chords, when I play a chord, the correct chord is recognized by vArranger, but also the sounds that are selected in "Left" section, also play - and this is not expected behaviour.  I expect the "Left" sounds only to play beyond the split point.   Is this correct?  How can I set it up so that I can play chords on the lower manual, and also play a melody on the lower manual, beyond the split point?

I've tried looking for the answer, but I cannof find it.  Please help me.
Brian.

HI,
It is possible to use the drawbars in VA2, even if I don't own a hardware module?

Can the drawbars in VA2 perhaps control a vsti that is also running on the same computer? If so, can it also switch the simulated Leslie on and off from inside VA2?
#138
The only way I can get it working properly as an organ, is to have removed the Yamaha PSR 295 arranger keyboard, and replace the original bottom manual of the midified Yamaha spinet organ.  So not it has two 48 key manuals, and one 13 note pedalboard,  I can play chords on the lower manual, and melody on the upper manual.  And I can play manual bass on the pedalboard if I so wish.  It's really nice.  It is working better than expected - no discernible latency, no sound breakup whatsoever, and the quality is great.  I can still connect up to 209 buttons and 64 continuous controllers - this is what is still open on my midi encoder.

Pity I can not make it work with Yamaha PSR 295 keyboard installed inside the console.  It seems that if you want to use it as an organ, your first midi interface will need to have 3 channels - one for pedal, lower, and upper manual.  This is the case with my first console setup - that is why it works there, but in this project, the first midi interface only has two channels for notes.

One can get it working with MidiOx, but that get's to complicated for maintenance and troubleshooting.

#139
yes, Wasapi also works, as well as d-sound. The orange memorystick in the photo is the memory stick with the vArranger license on it.

In this photo you can view the LattePanda specifications, as shown in Windows 10.

So far, only the vArranger soft synth is working, and there is no discernible latency whatsoever.  I am really impressed!
#140
I will put photo here just now.  It is a work in progress, so it is not neat at all at the moment.
Dan, sorry, I don't understand.

My midi setup is as follows:
1'st midi interface: Pedal = Channel 4.  Upper manual = Channel 3.  Lower = not used on this interface.
2'nd midi interface: Lower manual = channel 1.

On the photo the bottom manual is the Yamaha PSR 295 keyboard.  the remaining part of this keyboard is lying inside the console, and is vissible - it has a smal blue LCD screen.
The upper manual is the original manual from this organ.

I have used a 4 channel car amplifier in the console, with an HP blade power supply module.  When completed, there will only be the blade power supply, it will power the Latte Panda, amplifier, parametric equaliser, midi interface, Yamaha PSR 295, and everything else inside the console.  I will not be using any additional power supplies, as this PSU gives 12V, 3V, and 5V.
#141
I have Windows activated on the Latte Panda, and I've installed an $8 USB sound card.  I know it's not the best, but for testing it is working 100% fine.  I've installed Asio4all, and there thus far, there seems to be no discernible latency, and neither have I experienced any sound breakup whatsoever.

I have 2 midi interfaces.  The upper manual and pedal are on the first interface. I've selected the correct channels, and when I play the pedals manually, I see what I expect to see - it plays the selected 'bass' voice in the user interface.  When I play on the upper manual, it also plays the correct part - the 'RIGHT' voices.  The lower manual is the Yamaha PRS 295 and is working via it's own USB cable (midi via USB). It also plays the expected sounds in the user interface - the "left" voices.

I cannot however, set the split point on the lower manual, like on my other setup.  I can only set the split point on the upper manual - but it has to be on the lower manual.

Any ideas?

#142
I have bought the hardware now.  It cost about 400 Euro's, actually a bit less.  The screen is a 7 inch with seperate 7 inch, but will fit beautifully with my midified Yamaha spinet organ. I ripped out the bottom manual, and replaced it with a 61 note Yamaha PRS 295 arranger keyboard - not the best, but certainly not the worst either. I had to carefully cut up this keyboard with a small grinder in order to fit it into the console.  Perhaps you have notices that Yamaha keys are smaller than 'standard' keys.  My Behringer and Hammond keyboard keys are certainly larger, I think they are the same size as my digital piano's keys.  This midified Yamaha setup will not need to be mobile at all. I will just use it in my music room.  This project will only have 1 4 channel amplfier, so that I have 1 stereo pair with one subwoofer channel.  I will run vArranger2 on this system instead.

Thank you Dan. I will be adding a high quality USB audio card as well. It is a Behringer USB sound card.

In this smaller Yamaha organ conversion, I have installed a Yamaha PSR 295 keyboard, as the lower manual.  This means that already, even with the setup as it currently is, I can access all the GM and XGLite instrument banks of this keyboard, which obviously has an extremely low latency, but unfortunately, the polyphony is not has high as with software sound generation.  It is still worth using though.

Hi,

I am building a new organ console, to be used with vArranger2, for my personal use at home.  My first project, I have an upgraded midified organ console, 3 manuals of 61 keys, and pedal-board of 25 keys. Inside this console, I have installed a full size Intel i7 motherboard, 10 channel audio card, and 5 disk RAID array.  On the outside, I have installed 2 touch screens.  It is really a pleasure to play on this console.  It also has 10 distinct audio channels, but with vArranger, I can unfortunately only use 2 channels. This is the same console I use for playing other music using other software like Hauptwerk (for my virtual pipe organs, both classical and theatre) and also some draw-bar simulators, for that beautiful draw-bar sound. I have realised though, that this is too big for vArranger.  So I'm doing an smaller project now.

My new project is a bit smaller, using a smaller 2 manual and 13 note pedal-board midified Yamaha organ, that currently has a raspberry Pi installed, and runs jOrgan (Java Organ).  It is really cool, as the little Raspberry Pi computer is the size of a credit card.  On this project, there will only be one stereo pair, ideal for vArranger.  I've come to realise, that I don't really need 25 pedals and 3 manuals in order to enjoy vArranger functions. So this new little organ will only be used for vArranger and nothing else.  I want to remove the Raspberry Pi, and install in it's place, a Latte Panda, which an Intel based single board computer (SBC) slightly larger than a credit card, with 4 gig RAM and Cherry Trail quad core 1.8 Ghz computer.  My question is, has anybody tried running vArranger on such a device with success?  I don't want to spend this money, and not have it working satisfactorily.

Hi Dan,

I have two questions.  No1 is Do I need to be able to see the drive letters of the USB lisence stick, or can I remove the drive letter, in Windows 10.   The drive letter is interfering with my Hauptwerk setup (Virtual Pipe Organ Simulator)
Mo 2 is I am looking to download latest version, but the link says "not found". when I click on the links you sent me.

Brian.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Feedback LED's

HI,

I am busy with my organ console project.  I use Midi Boutique midi encoders and decoders.

I have a decoder that can light up 128 individual LED's.  Although I do not wish to use all the LED's with vArranger, I would like to use some.

My project entails installing physical switches and rotary controls, as well as LED's.  I am going to assign the most used functions to buttons, and would like the corresponding LED to light up when I press a button, as is required.

Is this possible with vArranger?

Regards,

Brian.

Hi,

I would like to know if the effects above each track only work with a hardware module, and not with soundfonts?

Thank you.
