Dan,
When loading vArranger I noticed a reverb file being loaded.  I have been getting an extreme level of
reverb and can't seem to get rid of it.  What am I missing?

Hi Dan,
I am making a lot of progress setting up songs for my live gigs using vArranger.  I have one problem I have not yet solved.  I have about 12 favorite voices I want to save and have them always appear when I start vArranger.  So far each time I drag these sounds to the lower bar and do a save they do not appear again if I close vArrager and restart it.  What must I do to have these show up each time I start vArranger?

I still am using the same laptop I have had for over 5 years.  It works just fine but I often wondered if
I had the most up to date hardware if the synth sounds would be a bit better.  So, if you could buy the very best laptop for vArranger what would it be?  I did buy a new computer and returned it because it did not fold back and it was also extremely heavy.

how do I get WASAPI to appear in the midi selection screen.  I am using version 1.19 but without the last two years updates.  There is to much latency without the SD2 module and no WASAPI.

Since I bought your vArranger, nearly 10 years ago,  I have always used the Ketron SD2 module with wonderful sound quality results. I tried using vArranger without the SD2 but really was not very pleased with the sound.  So, what must I do to get the best sound quality from vArranger without using the SD2 module.  My main concern is I do not play the modern music.  All my gigs are for people 65 years old and older.  I play all the popular hits from the 1920's to the 1970's.  So I need a sound source that can support that style of music.  I have never used a DAW and really don't know much about them.  By the way, I did not keep the new super computer I bought last month so I am still using my ASUS 15 inch touchscreen laptop. It has always worked great with vArranger.

I created about a dozen user voices and placed them on the bottom line below the 4 voices I prefer for songs.  I saved the setup as a "Startup Configuration" but upon restarting vArranger the 12 voices were not available on the main screen.  What did I do wrong?  I hope I described this clear enough.

No one has talked about how things are going for them.  Dan, I have been thinking about you and hope you and your family are getting along ok and are healthy.  My wife and I are ok and doing fine.  Finding a lot of new tasks to pass the time and discovering that all these fancy things we were doing are not really necessary to be happy.  All my music gigs have been cancelled and will probably not come back until August or September if then.  My wife has renewed her awesome cooking ability and we have been eating some wonderful home cooked meals.  I spend time on my three keyboard setups each day but frankly am losing interest - but I do enjoy the time I spend with it.  Anyway,  I hope all is going well for our forum members and wish everyone the best.

I was wondering - if you use vArranger with the SD2 what styles have worked best for you. For example,
do you use Ketron's .PAT formatted styles?  If you use conversions from all the other keyboards - which ones work best for you?   Like may keyboard players, I have thousands of styles from just about every known arranger keyboard and I have found a lot of them simply do not play well with vArranger.  It would be nice to have a lot of the forum members join in here and tell us what you have discovered.

Oh yes, what version of vArranger are. you using? I am using 1.19.

A day ago I sent Dan a private message informing him about an issue I have been having with vArranger for the past several years.  I almost have stopped using vArranger because of this issue.  Well, Today I get a replay to run the support.exe program and Dan connected with my laptop and walked me through several ways to improve what I have been doing.  He spent about 45 minutes with me and totally explained to me how to do a few simple things that will make the styles and sounds better suited for the music I play.

I have been a vArranger owner for nearly 5 years and have gigged with it many times.  With Dan's gracious and informative help it looks like I will be able to continue to use vArranger for some special gigs I play each year.

I gig multiple times weekly and have always had a "backup plan" in place should my main keyboard decide not to work during a live gig.  With vArranger I use a Ketron SD2 sound module.  I have also been experimenting with your synth system and found it to be very good.  My question is:  How do I setup vArranger using the synth instead of the SD2 and not destroy or ruin my gig setups with the SD2? 

Basically what I have found is after I experimented with the synth and then went back to use the SD2 there were song setups in which the RH voices had been replaced or were missing.   Is there a way to avoid this?

Hi Dan,
When I use my SD2 unit and select a song the proper PDF leadsheet shows and takes up about 1/3 of the screen but it can be resized if needed.  However, if I use the virtual sounds the same PDF shows up a a whole screen image and it can not be resized or reduced.  Is this a known issue or is there a setting somewhere I missed?

In vArranger - how do you control the master EQ effect such as increasing or decreasing highs, mids, or lows?  I want to do this as a General change and not for an individual style.

I used vArranger on my gig today. Was not able to record anything but have attached photos of my setup.  Bose L1 Compact Speaker, Roland A-800 pro controller, ASUS 15 inch touch screen laptop.  Board I built on top of an X-stand - tray table for the laptop.  I seldom touch the laptop screen and have buttons and sliders programmed to change variations, control style and RH sound volumes, select endings and intros.

When I associate a PDF file with a style and then select that style the PDF file
covers the entire screen.  Is there a setting for this?  How do you get the size smaller so you can still see vArranger?

I have thousands of PDF Leadsheets.  All will display on vArranger but not all display great. So, is there a certain size PDF that displays the best?

I currently use the SD2 module with vArranger and need some advice about other sound modules that can be used with vArranger.  I don't know anything about VSTs but am willing to learn.  Also, I am open to other hardware module options but don't know what is out there to research.  Any advice is welcome and appreciated.

Just installed Windows 8.1 on my MacBook Pro.  vArranger runs fine but it does not see any Midi in or Midi out.
Where is there a Midi driver for Windows 8.1?

NOTE:   All I had to do was to reload the driver for my Roland A800 Pro controller and it now works just fine.

SUCCESS!!!!  Thanks Dan for the very quick response to my questions.
The general setup is very easy using Roland's Editor.  The problem with the sliders
was created because they needed to be on a different Midi Chan rather than Chan 1.
The Buttons are not all assigned to Midi Chan 1 and the Sliders to Midi Chan 2 and it works
perfectly.

Thanks to Dan and his on-going determination to help all his vArranger users I now have a fully working control map for my Roland A-800 Pro controller once again.   I had somehow deleted the control map Dan had gone online and created for me and was determined to learn how to do it myself.   After 3 days of failure I finally asked Dan for help and within minutes I had a set of written directions which allowed me to setup the control map in about 10 minutes and learn how it is done.

I have a request for future upgrades.  Unless I am missing something it is now not possible to have single folder in which other folders exist and see the sub-folders on vArranger.    Example:   I want a folder named "Current Songs"  inside that folder I want the songs organized alphabetically group like all the A songs in it's own folder, all the B songs in their own folder.

Right now when I setup folders like this vArranger will not "see" the sub-folders.
I attached a sample folder.

Let me know if I am missing something here or if what I see is correct.

Here is my setup:
1. Roland A-800 Pro Controller
2. Ketron SD2
3. New Windows Laptop (Has plenty of processing power)

Problem:  Only when playing with Roland Styles there is a definite "glitch" or very slight delay(perhaps latency) before the left hand played chords play.

Note:  All other styles work just fine - this seems to be a Roland Style issue.  I am using the Roland styles I posted on the forum.

Has anyone else had this issue?

It is 4:40AM and Glenda and I are getting ready to drive to my 6AM appointment at the hospital.
My Surgery is scheduled for 7:30AM today.   I think I told you after doing the MRI, CT, Xrays, and
Nerve Conduction tests they determined I have a very severe Cervical Spinal Stenosis from C3-C6.
Today they will try to fuse them and perhaps that will solve the problem. 

I have had to cancel all my gigs for September and October because they told me to expect not to get
around very easily for about 2 months and certainly not to lift anything at all or to drive a car.  Complete
healing time might be up to a year they said. 

Glenda will keep all our friends updated as the day passes today.  Hope all is well with you and your day
is a good one.

Is this something vArranger can make use of?

Hi Dan,
I have noticed that in the current file system vArranger does not see folders within folders.  Example would be if I have a Folder named "Current Songs" and within that folder are other Folders containing the songs then vArranger does not see these folders.

I wonder if that could be changed because it would help in organizing everything.

I probably will buy a 2nd laptop dedicated only for vArranger.  I already have a macbook pro but don't want to put Windows on it.
I thought about a Macbook Air.   What are the necessary specs I need to look for in another laptop to run Windows 7 and vArranger?

Soon there will be tablets running Windows 8.   I installed Windows 8 on my PC but vArranger will NOT run under Windows 8 right now.  I wonder if Dan is
working to make vArranger work with Windows 8.    Seems like the way microsoft is taking us in the PC world.

I am installing Windows 8 on my pc and will report back later today about how varranger
runs on it.  This is a Preview version offered by Microsoft so there might be differences in
the product released later.  My PC does not have a touch screen so it will be interesting to see how
the mouse works.

I am thinking of buying a touchscreen PC tablet to use with vArranger.  Most of the ones I see advertised have no more than 2Gigs of RAM and run at clock speeds of about 1.5 to 1.8 GHTZ.   Onboard storage is usually not more than 64 Gigs of SSD.   Would that set of specs be powerful enough to safely run vArranger on gigs? 

Are there vArranger users who use tablet PCs  - which one do they use?

Dan,
It is easy to add or change a RH2 or RH3 voice but it will not allow me to save those changes in the style.  As soon as I click on Save Song the voices return to the original voices.  What am I doing wrong?  I want to be able to add or change the RH2 or RH3 voice and save it in the style so it comes up automatically when the style is selected.

I want the RH Lead sounds to be "fuller".  Right now I simply use a single voice for the RH lead voice.  I would like to add a second voice to that setup but I want to change the second voice with each variation change.  How is that done with vArranger?

Tonight I took my camera to my gig, set it up and let it run while I was performing.
The battery ran out after about 10 minutes but the link below is what I got before it died.
This is my first effort of doing any videos of my playing.  The sound could be better but it is good enough to get the idea.   I broke up the full video into 3 separate videos so I could upload them.   

I was trying to setup the camera so viewer could see how I am using my Ipad along with vArranger.

I have setup the NEXT SONG AND PREVIOUS SONG to be controlled by my controller rather than using a mouse.  However, sometimes it will skip a song in the gig list.  Is there a cure for that?  It always will skip the same songs.  Otherwise it works just great.
These songs play just fine when selected with the mouse.

Buttons A1-A4 I use to change variations.    (V1-V4)
Button A5 is for variation up    (VU)
Button A6 is for variation down  (VD)
Button A7 is for ending 3  (E3)

The first slider is for the style volume   (S)
The 2nd slider is for the RH voice volume  (R)
The last slider is for the Master Volume  (M)
Button L1 is for Next Song  (NS)
Button L2 is for Previous Song  (PS)
Button L7 is for Fade Out/In  (FD)
Button L8 is for Stop  (ST)

I just about have eliminated the use of a mouse while performing.  Will continue to work on and improve the setup.

I use a Macbook Pro with Windows 7 installed in a Boot Camp partition and it works
wonderfully with vArranger.  However, I decided to upgrade from Snow Leopard to
the new Lion OS and now no matter what I do I can not get the Boot Camp Assistant to
work as it did with Snow Leopard.   I had to totally delete Lion from the Macbook Pro, reformat the hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.  In the process all of the vArranger files were lost - I do have a backup.  However, even now I still can not get
Boot Camp Assistant to see the Boot Camp partition so I can reinstall Windows 7.

Bottom line is that is a real pain and very time consuming and I will probably end up
buying a PC Netbook to run vArranger on.

Hi Dan,
I am busy setting up my gig set lists on vArranger and have run across a problem I can't find a solution for. 

If I am using any given style and I really like a certain variation of that style I might want to just change RH Lead voices while playing a song but may not want to have the variation change with the voice change.  Normally I always
have the "Link" function active because I like to change RH voices when I change variations. 

What I would like to do is keep the "Link" function active but still be able
to change variations without changing the RH voice or change the RH voice without having the variation change too.

I use a Roland A-800 Pro Controller Keyboard with vArranger.  For some reason when I try to assign an event to the sliders the software and the controller are not talking to each other.   I have tried several times to assign volume levels to the sliders but nothing happens.

If anyone has any ideas please pass them along.

On all my keyboards I had a "Master EQ" from which I could adjust the overall sound to match the speaker system I use.  Is there a "Master EQ" setting on vArranger?

Is there a way to load a different set of 4 voices, one voice per variation, for each style?
Right now if I setup 4 voices those same 4 voices are being used in every style I select.  I much prefer the variety of using different RH voices for different songs.

I thought I would try vAranger with my Tyros 4.  Exactly what connections are
needed to make it work?

By the way, NONE of my dealers can sell me a SD2 unit for at least the next 4 weeks.  It seems that Ketron just doesn't ship anything after August 1st and doesn't supply their dealers with product to cover the time they close in August.  No only that, but the dealers I do business with are seriously thinking about dropping the Ketron line because of this sort of nonsense.

  I played a gig yesterday but had no vArranger to use.  I used my Tyros 4 and I really missed
the vArranger sounds.  There is something about the SD2 and vArranger that really makes me want to play. 
Something the Tyros 4 is missing.  I have another SD2 unit on order but it won't arrive for another week.
My SD2 Unit broke at a terrible time because I had a few days off from gigs and was all ready to get a lot
more songs setup for my gigs. 

By the way, as of today Ketron has NOT responded to several phone calls I have made to them.  There
support here in the US is almost non-existent.

Ce soir, Dan a passé près de deux heures avec moi, tentant de corriger le problème de crash SD2 et nous avons finalement accepté de

questions et les problèmes de Windows typiques fichier. dll et nous sommes finalement arrivés à faire la mise à niveau sur l'unité SD2. La fin
résultat est mon unité SD2 est MORT! LA MODERNISATION DE L'APPAREIL FRIED SD2.

alors j'ai pensé que je n'avais rien à perdre. Au moins il a essayé et je suis sincèrement reconnaissant à lui pour son effort.

Before telling my story I need to thank Dan for his supreme effort in attempting to help save my SD2 Unit.
Tonight Dan spent nearly 2 hours with me attempting to fix the SD2 Crash problem and we finally agreed to
do the software update offered by Ketron on their website.   He patiently worked his way through Windows 7
issues and the typical Windows .dll file problems and we finally got to do the upgrade on the SD2 Unit.  The end
result is my SD2 Unit is DEAD!!   THE UPGRADE FRIED THE SD2 UNIT.

Dan warned me in advance that things might not go well but my SD2 Unit was crashing and was not reliable for gigs
so I figured I had nothing to lose.  At least he tried and I am sincerely thankful to him for his effort.

I will contact Ketron here in the US and see what they have to say - but will probably just buy another SD2 Unit and move on.  I know several players who play Ketron products and it seems this experience is normal for Ketron - if you get a good product it is very good - if not - well you have problems. 

I will report back here in this thread how Ketron responds to my complaint.

On some of the styles the 4th variation has a RIFF which is really neat.  It would be really neat if
during the RIFF the chords were displayed just like when we play them ourselves.

Played my third gig today with vArranger.  Here are some of the pictures.  I usually play from 3 to 6 gigs a week and I am
starting to break in vArranger on my gigs.  So far it is working really well with only a few issues that need attention.  One of the issues is getting a good balance of sound.  Seems like many of the styles are "Bass Heavy".  I'll play with the mixer and see how that goes.  Also, there is an unbalance between the accompaniment and the solo right hand  voice on almost all the styles.  I'll try to adjust that too. 

Anyway, here are 5 pictures of the setup I used.  Notice all the loose wires - I have not done any work on getting everything really neat and clean.  That will come later.

With the SD2 unit there are two audio outputs.  The SD2 unit ships with a connector that combines the two outputs into a single plug that goes in to a speaker.   I own 2 Bose L1 Compact speakers and wanted to know if any sound improvement would happen if I ran each output into its own speaker?

Today I played two gigs - both with only vArranger.  Both gigs went well without a single problem.  The audience at both gigs liked the sound of my new setup and and said it sounded very "live" compared to my Tyros 4.

I was very impressed how nice everything sounded in large rooms with my Bose L1 Compact.  I will use this setup the rest of the week - but I really think it will replace my Tyros 4 for gigs. 

I have added pictures of my setup at the first gig.  Somehow I deleted the pictures of my second gig but I'll take more later this week.

I usa a Roland A-800 Pro keyboard with vArranger.  So far I have only been able to get buttons A1-A8 to work as assigned buttons.  A5 is Variation UP, A6 is Variation down, A7 is 3rd ending,  A8 is 4th ending, buttons A1-A4 are the variations linked to sounds.

These are the only controlls I can get to accept an assignment.  The sliders will not, nor will any other of the controlls on the keyboard accept and assignment from vArranger.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have run across a problem that just developed.  I am hearing a distorted sound on the Right Hand voices.  I am using headphones right now which have worked fine in the past.  To get rid of the distortion I must turn down the volumn for the Right Hand voice so low you can not hear the voice when played.  I'am wondering if the problem might be with the SD2 unit?

I have thousands of styles that are playing on vArranger.  Of course, not all of them are of use to me and I want to delete them from the folders.  Right now I must exit vArranger and go to the data folder to do the deletions. 

It would be really great if, while auditioning styles, the styles could be deleted right from the vArranger page with a simple right click and delete function.

If I want to raise or lower the octave in which a voice plays without effecting other parts of the style
how is that done?  If that can be done it would be great if the adjustment could then be saved as part of
the song or style.

I have three issues that I can't find an answer to:
1.  If I change a style by muting a part or changing a voice of a part how do I save that change?
     Also, if I change something in variation 1 must I save the change before going on to say
     variation 3 to make changes?
2.  When playing many styles the LEFT voice usually plays even if I don't want it to play.  I can
     mute the LEFT voice but sometimes it adds to the style - BUT - I want the LEFT voice to sustain
     until the next chord is played.  Is there a way to cause the LEFT voice to HOLD or SUSTAIN until
     the next chord is played? 
3.  When I connect a sustain pedal to my controller (Roland A-800Pro) I get no sound from the keyboard
     or vArranger.  I changed the polarity of the pedal but that did not help.   I used this pedal with my
     BK-7M and it worked ok - is there a setting in vArranger for the Pedal?

before playing them - where did I get that idea from?

With my A-800 Pro controller and vArranger - how would I use or connect a standard sustain pedal?

I figured out how to record songs using vArranger.  I use a free program called Audacity to do simple recordings.
I connected the output of the SD2 to my PC input with Audacity running on it and I use the PC speakers to monitor what is happening.

If you read and speak only English you can still get a lot from the French version of the users manual. 
I spent a little time using google translate and read the entire French version of the manual in less than
an hour and that included doing the section by section translations. You will
gain a lot of insight and a lot of your basic questions will be answered about the software. 

Dan is tremendous about support and answering emails and posts on the forum and is always willing to
help but some of the very basic info is in the users manual and it really was not very hard to translate the sections of
interest.   At the end of the manual are really nice pictures of how to connect the hardware for various setups you might use.

I have been experimenting and have several songs setup as a test with linked voices.  How do I delete all the voices form the sounds bar and the links to the variations?

On my MacBook Pro I always use only the Mouse Pad.  I connected a mouse to the MacBook Pro and that resolved the "right click" problem.  Problem solved.

First, I have a Roland A-800 Pro controller.
Using Dan's instructions on setting controller buttons I set the A1, A2, A3, and A4 buttons to call up each of the variations.  The problem is that A1 calls up variation 1 with the properly linked voice but button A2 calls up variation 4 instead of variation 2.   I have tried dozens of times to get this right but the result is always the same - only variation 1 and 4 are called up by the  buttons.

Anyone have any ideas here.

The more I explore the more in awe I am of your creation.  Once I have many styles setup and songs ready to play for gigs what is the best way to backup the program? 

Also,  I have my key on a thumb drive - what happens if the thumb drive goes bad and the computer can't read the thumb drive.?  I have never had a thumb drive fail on me but I do know others who have had that problem.

How do I record with the program?

What I would like to do is setup songs that I play on gigs so that they have
4 variations with each variation having a different right hand lead voice.  It would be
awesome if when I changed variations the new voice changed with it. 

Once I have a song setup how is it saved so that it can be recalled with all of it's settings?

between the MacBook Pro, a midi keyboard, and the SD2 unit?

Finally, after 3 weeks my SD2 module has been shipped.  Can't wait to get it and try it with the vArranger software.  I'll have to start re-reading all the posts to catch up with what I have missed.

I now have my MacBook Pro setup to run both the Mac OS X and Windows 7 and have downloaded vArranger and .netframe.  I am ready to give the software it's first real run.

I'll provide a report on the results and progress tomorrow.

I will probably order Varranger this week.  I decided to upgrade to a 500gig hard drive on my Mac Book Pro and add Vista to it.  There will be a delay in getting the hard drive installed and the OS reloaded and the backup restored. 

Once I order the software how long before I can download it?  Also,  what are the issues with a backup of the software - how does that work in case of a hardware problem?

In the current version of Varranger - what styles can be played? 
I am most interested in Yamaha, Korg, or Roland styles.   The more I learn about your software the more I am inclined to purchase it.  It would be really neat to have a single package that could play styles from these keyboards - plus the SD2 - WOW - talk about having it all.

add Windows to my Mac Book Pro.  For your software to run really well with no glitches what is the recommended processor speed and RAM requirements?

Like you, I have a MacBook Pro.  I will not use Windows for anything else but running your software.  So, which version is most stable with your Varranger?
I still have XP and Vista and Windows 7 and I really don't care which I use.

Do you know if you can run Windows on the Macbook Pro from a USB drive. I just picked up a 1TB portable USB drive for my Mac.   If not, how much free space is need on the Macbook HD for the Windows installation?

I am seriously looking at your Varrager but have a few questions.
First, I am an Arranger style of keyboard player and must be able to
"split" the keyboard into at least two sections - one for accomp and the other
for solo or lead voices.  Is that possible?

Also, I am very interested in having access to both the ketron and the Tyros 3 and 4 styles.
How does that work with Varranger?

I use a Mac Book Pro laptop which is one year old now.  I realize I must run Windows on my Mac Book Pro to run Varranger.  Can you explain how you run your cables from the laptop to your speakers?  I often use two Bose L1 Compact speakers on my gigs and always use at least one of the Bose L1 Compacts. 

For styles which normally have 4 variations and OTS voices on a Ketron or Yamaha keyboard - do they work the same way on Varranger?
