There are some people working to get Windows 10 working on the Raspberry Pi 4B.  I'm eagerly waiting for this to be finalized, then I can build a portable keyboard solution for vArranger, and not the monstrosity I am currently using - a 2 manual + pedal vArranger organ. Them my vArranger setup can be more like the commercial professional arranger keyboards on the market.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Korg PA-300 users
August 24, 2020, 09:40:01 AM
I'm looking for Korg PA-300 users. I am using vArranger2, Korg PA-300, Yamaha PSR-295.  I know they are not the most powerful Korg or Yamaha keyboards, but it is all I can afford. I want to get .INS file for Korg PA-300 and also for Yamaha PSR-295. If anybody has this please let me know.
Also, has anybody perhaps converted some Yamaha and other styles to Korg format, I am looking for some to try on my Korg, when I am not in the mood for playing on my vArranger organ. My vArranger organ is almost complete.  It is a Yamaha E5 organ that I have converted to work with vArranger. I have added 64 potensiometers, and over 128 switches and 128 LED's, using 2 midi encoders and 1 midi decoder. I still have to build in my 10 inch screen before the organ is complete.  For the moment I am using a large 23 inch screen standing on the organ, but I want to get rid of it and only use a built-in 10 inch screen. I might be adding a 3'rd manual which is a Yamaha PSR-295 keyboard that I have made possible to install in this Yamaha E-5 organ, so it will have 3 manuals + pedalboard at the bottom.  Inside the cabinet I have 2 x 4 channel amplifiers built in, giving me 2 channels and 2 subwoofers. Inside is also a built-in i7 computer with 16 gig ram, using 1 SSD to boot from and another SSD to store the data on - all the styles and midi files. This is for my own entertainment.  I will try to attach a photo of my vArranger organ. It remdinds me of Star Trek - my organ could probably come off the USS Enterprise :)

I upgraded my computer to an SSD boot disc, and had to re-install everything. Now I cannot get vArranger to work at all.  It is extremely frustrating. I get this error:

The vArranger² Software Forum / tuning in vArranger
October 09, 2018, 02:26:33 PM
When I play along to the radio or cd's, vArranger is sometimes slightly out of tune.  I cannot find anywhere to fine-tune vArranger2.  Am I just missing it, or is it not currently possible to retune vArranger in cents?

The vArranger² Software Forum / vArranger and VSTi's
October 07, 2018, 01:23:46 PM
I managed to get some sound using the following combination:
vArranger2 + B4II.

I want to use a hardware momentary normally open switch, or a toggle switch, to switch the Leslie between stop and run, as well as the speed between slow and fast.  I am not getting anywhere with it.  I cannot use B4II "Learn" function, as nothing happens.  I can also not use the vArranger "Learn" function, because nothing happens.

Also, is there another drawbar type vsti with "learn" capability, that only has 1 keyboard, I don't need B4II for this, as it is an overkill.

Please give me some advice.

I am in the end stages of building my vArranger setup.  It is a 40 year old Yamaha E5 console organ, with 3'rd added manual, and 25 pedals.  I have installed a lot of new 'pistons' between the original two manuals, and they work very well with vArranger.  They are all 'momentary normally open' switches.  There are also a lot of original toggle switches in this organ, that I have wired up, and use in other programs. Since using this converted organ console, it has really brought vArranger experience to life for me.

The vArranger² Software Forum / "LEFT" voices
October 05, 2018, 01:33:51 PM
When I open any style, it automatically also switches on "Left1".  I don't always check it, and when I start playing, it almost gives me a heart attack, because it sounds absolutely horrible.  I then switch off "Left1", and save it, thinking it will resolve this problem. However, directly after the "Save" operation is complete, the "Left1" voice turns back on again.  Please tell me what to do to keep "Left1" permanently off - it should only come on when I want it to come on.

Just a thought. I use a drawbar organ simulator, that uses a sountfont as the source of the oscilators. Could this be incorporated in the VArranger software synthesizer? The one I use runs on Fluisynth soundfont synthesizer.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Wah-brass soundfont

Hi, can anybody possibly help me with a "Wah-brass" soundfont?

Thank you all in advance.

When in the "Right" section, I was expecting, that when I press the "Solo" button on any of the 5 tracks, that any previously pressed "Solo" buttons in that section would be reset, and also if the channel I was selecting the "Solo" feature on, would be switched on if it was switched off.

But I don't understand how this Solo button is implemented, because, I can press "Solo" on multiple channels.

Please help me understand what the "Solo" buttons are used for.
#10
In old Yamaha organs, and possibly in other organ as well (Lowry for example) there used to be a miniature printed keyboard of about 30 cm long. You can assign any specific instrument to this keyboard.  You cannot really play a melody on it, because it is too small.  However, when you slide your finger up and or down this little miniature keyboard, it will play a beautiful arpeggio for you, that is based on the chord you are playing on the chord section of your setup.

It is probably a lot of work (or perhaps not)?  If this is implemented in vArranger, one would have the possibility of adding this miniature keyboard as a separate midi input device for vArranger. You then set the sound for it.  Perhaps, one of the channels currently used for "Left" or "Right" can be dedicated to this new feature?

In Midi setup, you could put a check-mark, to activate this feature, or leave it unmarked, if you decide you do not want it, causing "Left" and "Right" as they normally are without it.

When you play a chord in the chord section, for example, you play G7.  You choose a sound (for example, piano) for this miniature keyboard.  You then slide your finger up and down this miniature keyboard, and it plays for you, a perfect arpegio in G7.  Or any chord and any sound, you wish it to use.

Dan if more people are interested in this, would you consider implementing such a feature?

The vArranger² Software Forum / Midi encoder
February 20, 2018, 06:21:24 PM
While cleaning my switches today and getting everything together, I thought about something today, which could turn out to be a problem for me.

My midi encoder has 5 channels of digitals inputs, each channel has 64 inputs. - Giving total of 320 digital inputs.
This same encoder, has one channel of analogue inputs, and it can read 64 inputs.

I am using this encoder for vArranger in my project.  I have already wired up two manuals and one pedal board.  The digital inputs that are not being used for keys and pedals, will be used for switches, to control vArranger parameters.

Say for example, my midi encoder can transmit midi messages on channel 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

1. Will vArranger be able to read all 5 channels?  I know it can read at least 3 channels for the organ function, but what about extra two channels?
2. The analogue input's on the midi encoder, is on the same channel as the first channel of digital inputs.  Will I be able to use them at all?

The vArranger² Software Forum / Intro & Ending
February 18, 2018, 06:24:13 AM
Whilst busy planning the buttons on my organ, I want most used features on physical buttons and sliders, so for this I will install buttons and sliders, connected via my Midi Boutique MIDI encoder. I want to use touch screen as little as possible while playing.

I notice in the list of MIDI controllers for VA, that there are 4 buttons for INTRO, and 4 buttons for Ending. I have only seen one, two, or three buttons on the screen for various INRO and ENDING.  I have not seen 4 of them yet.  Perhaps I am not looking.  What type of style will I find with 4 INRO or 4 ENDING, please give one example.  I don't want to be sorry that I put 3 buttons, when four are need for INTRO, and also for ENDING.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Tempo Encoder
February 17, 2018, 05:18:07 PM
The "Tempo Encoder" in the list of midi controllers for vArranger, I want to know, is this a potentiometer input to control the tempo?

If it is, I want to add a physical rotary potentiometer to my project, so that I can quickly adjust the tempo, just like I was used to doing in my analogue Yamaha organ.

Any advice please?

I have made a list of MIDI controllable parameters of vArranger, from the "Options | Controllers" menu inside vArranger.

If anybody wants to have the list, it is in Excel format, just ask me, and I will post it here, if Dan does not mind.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Midi activity LED's
February 15, 2018, 04:52:25 AM
It would also be great to be able to have midi output for the 4 midi activity LED's at the top of the vA2 screen.  So that one can have physical LED's indicating midi activity.
#23
Can the 4 rhythm LED's be connected to physical LED's via a midi decoder, and can the BPM also somehow be displyed on external physical LED display, using midi messages?
#24
On my midi encoder, there is the posibility of using up to 64 'notes' per channel.  My vArranger console, will only use 49 notes per manual, leaving 15 'notes' unused on given channels.  The pedal section also only has 13 notes. leaving another 51 unused 'notes' on that channel.  I would like to use these unused inputs, for control messages.  For example, I would like to assign vArranger2 functions to these buttons. My question is: If I assign note number 14 on the pedal section, will vArranger not try to play a note, or will it perform the assigned function, or will it try to do both?

#25
I've setup vArranger2 in my new organ console project, as described earlier.  It is a 2 manual organ, with pedals.

Setting the split point on the lower manual, allows me to play the melody on the upper manual, and I play the chords on the lower manual.  This is what I expected. However, even if I set the split point for the chords, when I play a chord, the correct chord is recognized by vArranger, but also the sounds that are selected in "Left" section, also play - and this is not expected behaviour.  I expect the "Left" sounds only to play beyond the split point.   Is this correct?  How can I set it up so that I can play chords on the lower manual, and also play a melody on the lower manual, beyond the split point?

I've tried looking for the answer, but I cannof find it.  Please help me.
Brian.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Drawbars
February 11, 2018, 05:35:36 PM
HI,
It is possible to use the drawbars in VA2, even if I don't own a hardware module?

Can the drawbars in VA2 perhaps control a vsti that is also running on the same computer? If so, can it also switch the simulated Leslie on and off from inside VA2?
#27
Hi,

I am building a new organ console, to be used with vArranger2, for my personal use at home.  My first project, I have an upgraded midified organ console, 3 manuals of 61 keys, and pedal-board of 25 keys. Inside this console, I have installed a full size Intel i7 motherboard, 10 channel audio card, and 5 disk RAID array.  On the outside, I have installed 2 touch screens.  It is really a pleasure to play on this console.  It also has 10 distinct audio channels, but with vArranger, I can unfortunately only use 2 channels. This is the same console I use for playing other music using other software like Hauptwerk (for my virtual pipe organs, both classical and theatre) and also some draw-bar simulators, for that beautiful draw-bar sound. I have realised though, that this is too big for vArranger.  So I'm doing an smaller project now.

My new project is a bit smaller, using a smaller 2 manual and 13 note pedal-board midified Yamaha organ, that currently has a raspberry Pi installed, and runs jOrgan (Java Organ).  It is really cool, as the little Raspberry Pi computer is the size of a credit card.  On this project, there will only be one stereo pair, ideal for vArranger.  I've come to realise, that I don't really need 25 pedals and 3 manuals in order to enjoy vArranger functions. So this new little organ will only be used for vArranger and nothing else.  I want to remove the Raspberry Pi, and install in it's place, a Latte Panda, which an Intel based single board computer (SBC) slightly larger than a credit card, with 4 gig RAM and Cherry Trail quad core 1.8 Ghz computer.  My question is, has anybody tried running vArranger on such a device with success?  I don't want to spend this money, and not have it working satisfactorily.
#28
Hi Dan,

I have two questions.  No1 is Do I need to be able to see the drive letters of the USB lisence stick, or can I remove the drive letter, in Windows 10.   The drive letter is interfering with my Hauptwerk setup (Virtual Pipe Organ Simulator)
Mo 2 is I am looking to download latest version, but the link says "not found". when I click on the links you sent me.

Brian.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Feedback LED's
November 16, 2016, 06:45:09 PM
HI,

I am busy with my organ console project.  I use Midi Boutique midi encoders and decoders.

I have a decoder that can light up 128 individual LED's.  Although I do not wish to use all the LED's with vArranger, I would like to use some.

My project entails installing physical switches and rotary controls, as well as LED's.  I am going to assign the most used functions to buttons, and would like the corresponding LED to light up when I press a button, as is required.

Is this possible with vArranger?

Regards,

Brian.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Volume setting
September 02, 2016, 01:18:34 PM
Hi Dan,

Can you please consider the volume setting.  Every time I change to a new style the volume goes up to maximum.  This has just caused an ampliifier to damge right now.

I am sure many others want the same thing.

I know I can save and the volume will save with it, but I think it can be better if you do not need to save every single style with the new volume settings. While listing to every new style, to see the possibilities of it's usefullness, I do not want to have to save each one.

Please Dan.

Regards,
Brian.

Hi,

Something is working now, it is very strange.  When I press a group button now, I see a lot of 'new sounds' that were not there before with the older version without the harmony.  Is this how it should be, or have I selected something wrong somewhere?

The vArranger² Software Forum / Single keyboard
March 15, 2016, 09:12:48 AM
Hi, in my study where I try to select the sounfonts for my vArranger setup, I have a single midi controller keyboard. Is it possible to use this keyboard to test eveything, like for example playing the style with left hand, and melody with right hand?

Currently, when I do this, the style does play and change chords correctly with the left hand, but I also hear the right hand sound everytime I play a chord with the left hand, and that sounds horrible.

Please anybody help, it does not have to be Dan, it can by anybody.

SoundFonts - SFZ - VST - Tools / Banks in Sounfdonts
February 25, 2016, 08:02:06 AM
I have added some new voices to my setup, using external soundfonts.  As Dan suggested in a post that I cannot find now, I should edit the soundfont with Polyphone, which I have done successful. As suggested, I edit the Bank and Preset numbers for each preset in the soundfont, so that the new voices remain in the correct category. I have used banks banks 1 to 3, and 5 to 24 to add my new voices.  When I try to use bank 25 in the soundfont, it does not show up in vArranger at all.  Could anybody please suggest what I might be doing wrong?

Although not strictly a vArranger question, I want to know, why does polyphone not allow me to choose bank 6, 7 or 8.  When I edit the bank number and try to change it to either 6, 7 or 8, it automatically reverts back to 5.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Drawbars, in sf2
January 20, 2016, 10:13:07 AM
Dan, did you know that drawbars have been developed in a .sf2 format, by Paul Stratman, in jOrgan.  I don't know if you have heard on jOrgan, it is developed by Sven Meier, and is free to use by anybody.  It is an organ simulator that works in Java.

Is it possible to somehow make the drawbars work in vArranger2 with this soundfont, so that people that do not own a Ketron module can also have this functionality?

The vArranger² Software Forum / vsti question
January 20, 2016, 05:22:04 AM
I am using some vsti's that can receive on 16 channels at the same time.

Is there somehwere that I can find out beforehand, which track in vArranger 2 will use which channel?
#44
Since I do not own a  Ketron SD2 sound module  :'( ,  I have tried using the the Drawbars button to make my life with vArranger2 simpler. I have tried to save some user sounds inside it, and it seems to work OK. I only intend to save Drawbar organ sounds inside it, nothing else. Even when I restart vArranger2, the user sounds are still there. Just thought I'd share this idea with everybody, hope you find it useful.
#45
Is there a way to adust the volume of the presets inside the soundfonts?  I have added various soundfonts to my setup, but some presets are much louder in my soundfonts compared to the standard vArranger2 soundfont, so I continually have to adjust the volume when I select one of my own presets.
#46
When I use a vsti in vArranger, it works and sounds beautiful. Lylo has now explained to me how to recall my own USER sounds, that I have created, and that also works.  I have created some USER sounds, that contain 3 voices. 2 of the voices, are from the vArranger synth. The 3'rd voice, goes to a vsti on midi out no 2, then to the specific vsti.  Does vArranger also save the vsti setting with the voice?  When I recall the voice at a later time on another day for example, the vsti does not recall the sound that I expect, but it recalls the default sound for the vsti.  Is there a solution for this problem?

The vArranger² Software Forum / Highest Note
January 14, 2016, 07:23:40 PM
Dan, would it be possible, to have somebutton somewhere, when you select a voice, and you tick the special tick for that voice, it would only play the highest note of the chord on the 'Right' section?  Perhaps, it could be implemented only on "Right 4" for example, so any voice you assign to "Right 4" could have a tick to either play all notes in the chord, or only the highest note in the cord with that voice.  Just a usefull idea that I would love to have.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Additonal Soundfonts
January 13, 2016, 08:10:04 AM
I have added 21 Soundfonts, to my setup.

I have named them starting with 01 <soundfont name> in order for them to load in a specific order.

Most of the presets in these soundfonts show up on the buttons, but not all of them.  I have assumed that the default soundfont preset naming convention would always be 000:000 Piano, 000:001 Next Piano, and so on.  So in my soundfonts, I have edited them to start as follows: 001:000 My first Piano, 002:000 My second Piano, and so on.  I have also added some Drawbar ogan presets in other soundfonts, for example with naming convention as follows: 001:016 My first Drawbar, 002:016 My Send Drawbar, 003:016 My third Drawbar, and so on.

Why do they not all show up in my buttons?

Where can I find the default soundfont that comes with vArranger, so that I can see if there are any clashes, with the naming convetion that I am using?  Dan, I can send you the soundfonts, if you want to see what I have done, just let me know and I will do so.

I have been trying to figure out how to connect my Yamaha PSR 295 to my vArranger setup, in order to use it as a sound module for vArranger.

I don't seem to understand the manual. The instrucitons on page 24 says to do the following:

"Toactivate the INS function, click LOAD, and select an INS file. This will import the sound bank in vA2, and displays a new window with a list of sounds." - I don't see any new window as stated in the manual.

"It is important to note that the *.Ins must be present on the hard drive of the computer" - the .Ins file is on my hard drive.

At first I thought that the YAMAHA PSS 295.ins file might be corrupted, but I tried a lot of other .INS files, and I get the same result.

Please, can somebody help me with this, as I am not getting anywhere.

Thank you.

#55
I have installed the new version as instructed, and initially, some of it worked, but I could not change the default rhythm.  After restarting vArranger, I get an error message saying "Please download and install the latest version of the vArranger Software Synthesizer.".  Then, after clicking "OK", it wants to select all the setting again, but it does not show midi out and I cannot select the vArranger synth anymore, so now nothing is working.

I have now installed the previous version, and the 1'st midi input does not work anymore either.
#56
I have 2 Yamaha 295 arranger keyboards. I know the are 'baby keyboards' compared to what you guys have, but this was all I could afford at the time.  And now, VArranger! I want multi-channel audio, so I thought that if I connect these 2 keyboards as well on midi out, I might have 3 channel audio.  I have downloaded the .ins file, but I don't see anything happening when I load it.

1. Will it work, will I have 6 channel audio, if I connect these 2 keyboards?
1. Will it only work once I have connected the keyboard, or might the file be corrupt?
2. Is there a way to fix the file if it it corrupt?
3. Could any of you try to test the file, to tell me if it is working or not please?
4. Will I be able to play the Varranger styles through to the sound module built into the Yamaha PSR 295?
5. Will I see the available sounds of the Yamaha PSR 295, if I select a track at the bottom that I have routed out to the Yamaha PSR 295?
6. After I have made the selections to send certain channels out to certain midi outputs, will it remember that in vArranger between sessions?

Thank you.

I hope this is post is allowed Dan.  I am looking for a source of free sheet music, preferably in .PDF format.  This has nothing to do with VA itself, but I have lost my whole collection of music books that I have collected since my early childhood (from age 6).

Since I am 51, I am very interested in the likes of Abba, Boney M, and that sort of music.  It might be 'out dated' but I love it.  Also earlier music, like that of the Andrews Sisters, and that era is also welcome, WW2 and afterwards.

Any links or website suggestions will be most welcome.

I did not find a dedicated "Songs" folder inside the VA folder structure, so I'm not quite sure what to do. At first I put the songs in the same folder as the styles. How does VA know the difference between a "song" and a "style"?  I then created a new folder called "songs" directly under the VA folder in "My Programs" and moved all the 'songs' into that folder.  Is this the correct way, I did read the manual, but I am still not sure. Is there a way to make the text smaller where the "song" and "style names appear on the left, because currently it only shows the first letter of any name, so there are a lot with exactly the same name, so how does a person know which one to pick, if they all appear exactly the same?

There are so many styles and song styles to choose from, I could never have imagined this. I think even if I live to be 100 years old, I would never be able to go through all of them even once.

Although I am quite happy with the standard sounds in VA, I would like to experiment.

Can "Timbres Of Heaven GM_GS_XG_SFX V 3.0 Final !!!.sf2" be a direct replacement for the standard VA soundfont?

I know this might be a silly question, but can I use VA with my digital piano, with a keyboard split, and still have all the functionality?

Would I need to install some VSTi and connect it to vArranger in order to use the drawbars I saw somewhere in the manual, or is this already built into VA?

The vArranger² Software Forum / Midi in
December 15, 2015, 02:13:37 PM
Hi,

If I add more midi in, can I use all the channels that it has to offer in that midi device?  I have a midi encoder, that has 5 channels, each capable of sending 64 note on and note off messages, as well as 64 individual analoge controllers, all on one board.

Hi,

While playing, and for no apparent reason, chord recogntion just stops working.  I can see the midi messages going to vArranger, but the chord does not change at all.

When I restart vArranger, it seems to work for a while again.

What can cause this?

The vArranger² Software Forum / Multiple Touch Monitors
December 15, 2015, 10:57:47 AM
Hi,

I have 2 touch monitors in my setup.  Is there a way to make vArranger start up on the same screen every time?  At the moment, it starts up, alternating the monitor that it starts up on every time.  So only every 2'nd time it starts up on the screen that I want it to start up on.

Thank you,

Brian.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Yamaha PSR 295 ins file
December 15, 2015, 08:58:39 AM
Hi,

Does anybody perhaps have a .ins file for the Yamaha PSR 295 keyboard please, it would be much appreciated.  I have searched online, but cannot fine one, and I don't know how to create on.  Alternatively, could anybody show me how to create the .ins file, then I will do it myself and share if anybody else needs it.

Thank you.

The vArranger² Software Forum / Master Volume Setting
December 15, 2015, 07:48:44 AM
Hi,

Everytime I start vArranger2, the master volume is at maximum.  Is there a setting that I can make to remember the previously set master volume?  This is a problem, because my amplifier has to be set to maximum volume all the time, otherwise I have to get up everytime, in order to set the volume up when I want to use Hauptwerk Virtual organ software, and then down again, when I want to use vArranger2.

I hope this is possible?

Thank you,

Brian.

The vArranger² Software Forum / various style formats
December 15, 2015, 06:23:45 AM
Hi,
I only got my vArranger yesterday, and am very excited about it.  It has turned my midified Hammond E100 organ console, into a nice 'Arranger organ console'.  I have only used the sf2 that comes stadard with it. My uestion is, would I be able to play styles from all the manufacturers that are downloadable here on the forum or elsewhere?

Thank you.
