Hi Dan,

Please can you send me the latest version.

Many thanks,
Mike

GJ, I'm using different keyboards to try it out. KN7000, P50 and WSA1. But I'm not getting much spare time to play lately :) Frustrating :)

OK thanks I'll try it. Is it possible to then update that Sound? Or just have to save a new one?
#4
Thanks, I have the ins file working and can select sounds from it. I've saved a Sound into My Sounds. I can't figure out how to update the sound in "My Sounds" with an instrument from the INS list.

Sorry I've looked through the manual and tried various things but I can't work it out. Let's say I want the following instrument to be immediately available, how do I do it? MALLET-JazzVibesGuitar [32-80-11]

Great, I've spotted a few. These were ones I previously had issues with in Styleworks so they drew my attention. I'll get back to you, thanks.

Hi Pekilik,

It's not necessary, it's simply a potentially useful suggestion that saves button presses.

Mike

Lylo,

many thanks. Yes this is a really good feature!

Best wishes,

Dan,

find attached suggestions in a PDF, to make INS screen more friendly.

Hi Dan,

It would be good to have an INS button on the Sound Edit Screen.

Hi Dan,

It would be good if the Playlists would swap with the Styles area on the left instead of being a separate popout. Sorry I don't know what you call this Styles area yet (Songs area?).

If not, it would be a reasonable alternative for the Playlists to have a button of their own. Maybe next to the Options button. As playlists will become more important this would make them more accessible.

Hi Dan,

A suggestion that Intros could have an "Auto" button. So, if a styles is NOT playing, when a variation is selected, the equivalent intro would be selected, if the Auto button is on.

Hi Dan,

I'll use Tyros 4 Styles as an example and talk in broad terms, we can go into more detail with an individual style if you like. The principle applies to most Yamaha styles.

The Yamaha styles apply various drum kits. Notes in the drum kit trigger different drum instruments (I realise that you know this!). So, to play back correctly the drums in some kits have to be re-mapped to trigger the correct drum instruments. The mapping for the kits is documented in the reference guide for each instrument. Right now, for many styles they trigger incorrect drum instruments.

Is it possible to remap the drums within vArranger? I can continue to build User Kits for my instrument, however, this is beyond many players so if remapping could be done within vArranger it would be a huge benefit to owners, based on the fact that it only has to be done once centrally rather than each player having to build drumkits. This would mean that when a Style calls for a particular drumkit, vArranger woudl 'know' which GM drum instruments to trigger.

If you want some detailed examples I'll do the research and provide them in order for you to understand more clearly.

Best wishes,
Mike

Hi,

When I select a sound from my ins file (Technics KN7000), can I place that Sound in the My Sounds area?

Thanks,
Mike

Dan,

The detail you have gone into is really interesting and important to those of us who work in detail with these styles. I understand exactly what you're saying about the Korg styles compatibility and the details that you mention here mean that Styleworks doesn't convert correctly to Technics, for example, so it is really great to see you putting so much effort into the details and sharing the information.

I'm guessing that you'll also find some awkwardness with Korg 6/8 and 12/8 Styles, especially when some of the fill-ins are different lengths. I'll document some of this info when I get some spare time.

Best wishes,
Mike

One more question - you don't have a mailing list? I notice many threads with people asking for the latest updates. Isn't this automated somehow or do you email all owners when you issue an update?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Dan,

I can see that you support your users well and I've been reading through lots of forum topics. I have a few questions before purchase.

I use exclusively Technics instruments and I'm the Webmaster of http://technicskn7000.com/ and several other Technics-inspired websites. I've spoken to a few Technics owners who are using vArranger and it seems to do what they need. As I'm an advanced Technics user who helps many other Technics owners with their instruments (we have almost 5000 Members at the moment), I hope you'll support me with any specific issues I might encounter with Technics instruments.

In the features section you say "SONG CHORDS : Create full backing tracks in few minutes, selecting style, entering chords and variations. Export to midifile". Does the generated midifile then contain the individual notes that are being played by the auto accompaniment? I.e. Does it contain actual notes of the accompaniment guitars, bass etc etc, or does it contain only the 3 or 4 notes of the chord that is being played?

if I'm playing a Yamaha Style (assuming that I've loaded an appropriate ins file for my keyboard), can I change the instruments that are playing in the Style? Will those instrument changes persist if I export to a midifile?

I often work at my desk using my Technics KN7000 as a sound generator and a Samson Graphite midi controller on my desk. I'm assuming that I could control vArranger with my midi controller and use the KN7000 as a sound generator as I usually do?

Thinking about Yamaha Styles in particular, I've listened to some Youtube demos and they sound great. Are you reading the drums data for the various Yamaha kits and re-mapping it to standard GM kits? I would just like to know a little bit more about how you take the drumkit information and re-send it (and how it saves into an exported midi file).

Some of the later Yamaha instruments have Super Articulation voices (and other Yamaha names that I don't know) and as you know, lots of the data is for strum sounds, string scrapes and artisculations. How do you deal with that data being converted to GM? Of course I'm not expecting you to explain all the extreme detail, I'm just wondering whether you filter it out or if you convert it by re-mapping it etc?

The reason that all of the above is important to me is that I make a lot of Technics Styles for my members, so I'm acquainted with many of the Yamaha-specific anomalies because I have to run Styles through many different programs to result in a good effect on all the Technics models. And, for example, I have to create Technics-specific User Drum Kits to deal with the re-mapping of the Yamaha drumkits. For the Megavoices or whatever Yamaha calls the 'new' voices I often have to edit or delete the special high and low notes which, as you will know, send special data that is specific to those voices. By having some understanding of how vArranger deals with these (specifically when exporting midi) it will help me to understand how useful the programme might be for me.

Many thanks,
Mike

Hi Everyone,

I don't own vArranger yet but I have watched the program develop with interest.

I would like to hear the experiences of other Technics KN7000 owners with vArranger. How are you getting along with it?

Best wishes,
Mike
