Dan probably has better idea on your multi-threaded mode question for vArranger.

Did you mean that you want to build your own desktop PC using Intel Core i5 8600K or AMD Ryzen7 2700x mainly for running vArranger?

You may have already read the following discussion thread talking about the comparison of the two CPUs:
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3705356/8600k-ryzen-2700x.html

Both CPUs are more than enough for running vArranger.  If you also play games on the PC, then the Intel i5 8600K is faster.

I think most of the vArranger users, including myself, use Windows touchscreen laptops / tablets for vArranger for portability and simplicity in operations.  You can definitely run vArranger on a desktop with a touchscreen monitor if you only use vArranger at home.  Besides the PC, you can also map essential vArranger buttons to external MIDI controller such as the Korg NanoKONTROL 2 for better button feels than the on screen buttons of vArranger on the touchscreen.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Henry,

You have to buy a vArranger license in order to be able to download.

You can batch convert your Musescore's .mxl files to .pdf files as per discussion of the following thread without having to convert your xml files one by one:
https://musescore.org/en/node/5948

Just copy the following 2 lines into mscz2pdf.bat (for Windows), and save the file in the folder containing all your mxl files, then run mscz2pdf.bat on a command prompt window (CMD.exe) to batch convert all your mxl files to PDF files:

SET nightly="C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin\MuseScore.exe"
FOR /F "tokens=*" %%a IN ('DIR /B *.mxl') DO %nightly% "%%a" -o "%%~na.pdf"

Paul

Hello
Why is drums on channel 9 and not channel 10?

Hi zeljko,

Judging from the JPG files, the Synthfont program starts with MIDI channel 0, up to MIDI channel 15 (in hexadecimal).

We generally refer to MIDI channel 1 to 16.  In the case of Synthfont, MIDI channel 9 is equivalent to our regular MIDI channel 10.

The following MIDI Tutorial page explains why MIDI channel 10 is coded 9:

There is no such functionality within vArranger that you are asking for.  You have to input the chords in the "song chords" mode, together with the arranger progress changes.

I have not seen any hardware arranger keyboards that can do what you are asking - variation and fills in the measures where they are supposed to be without the player pushing a button.  The closest thing to what you are asking for is to use a bank of 8 to 10 registrations on a hardware arranger keyboard such as Yamaha Genos, with each registration memorizing the corresponding styles, intros, variations, fills, breaks, endings, R1, R2, R3, Left voices etc, but you still have to push the corresponding registration buttons at the appropriate times.

If you are asking for this feature so that you can use both of your hands full time on the keyboard without having to push buttons, you can purchase and configure a multi-button footswitch such as Yamaha MFC10, Behringer FCB1010, or Roland FC300 MIDI footswitch to control intros, variations, fills, breaks, endings etc.  vArranger software has a very nice MIDI controller button configuration menu that makes footswitch button configuration very easy.  Then you can just use your foot/feet to press on the footswitch buttons to trigger the corresponding arranger functions while your hands are busy playing the keys.

I have not heard of any demo versions.  The software needs a registered USB flash drive for licensing.  I had to buy the full version to experience it and I have not seen any so called latency.

I use vArranger with free sound fonts, and external sound module like Ketron SD1000, button control through Akai APC40 mk2 / APC Key25 MIDI controllers (via USB), very old Yamaha S80 (via MIDI) and Casio Privia PX560 88-key stage piano (via USB), and have not encountered any latency issue.

I am using vArranger 1.18, which includes its own software synthesizer and there is no need to run any external software to make the sound fonts work.  Setup is very simple and straight forward.

Paul

The price difference between touchscreen laptops (or we call them 2-in-1 laptops) and the non-touchscreen laptops is not that much, usually less than US$50 to US$100.  I do not see a reason why not to buy a touchscreen laptop, especially when using with vArranger.

I have two setups for vArranger in 2 separate rooms, one with touchscreen, and one without a touchscreen initially.  I found that without a touchscreen, I had to use a mouse to click some of the vArranger functions that I did not associate with the buttons of the external MIDI controller buttons/knobs/faders.  Things like the choices/pages of styles and sounds are more intuitive with the touchscreen than with buttons, and MIDI controllers have limited number of buttons any way.  For style progress/control I definitely use the buttons of the MIDI controllers because they feel more solid and easier to control than touchscreen when playing.

I ended up adding a 27-inch touchscreen monitor to my setup with the non-touchscreen laptop at home.

Paul

Norton Antivirus is too sensitive to 'unknown' programs and interferes too much on my computers.  I actually uninstalled it from all of my computers.

For Windows desktops/laptops, I found that Microsoft Defender (free) is quite dependable and it does not interfere with the running of vArranger and other programs.

Thanks,
Paul

Leaves me with one question about varranger touch support, does it have multitouch support?

Hi Bachus,

vArranger supports single touch - you can touch an on screen button or slider one at a time, but not more than one at the same time.  Touching 2 or more on screen objects simultaneously does nothing.

For vArranger style progress / variation control, break, voices, volume sliders etc, I use Akai APC 40 mk2 on one vArranger setup, and Akai APC Key 25 on another due to their large translucent buttons with MIDI light feedback for easy labeling.  For style selection, I prefer using the touchscreen of the laptop / touchscreen monitor because it is much easier to select style categories and styles using touchscreen than using the mentioned MIDI controllers.

Thanks,
Paul

That is wonderful, Dan.

Hi Dan,

Does this mean that there is a new version for vArranger with this fix?  If yes, could you please let me know the download link?

Thanks,
Paul

From vArranger2 software:
Options ->
  Controllers ->
Scroll down to the controller function number you want to change, click the entry ->
Click "No Joystick Control" on the right to clear the current setting.
Then press the button of your joystick that you want to control this function, the corresponding joystick value will be set.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Dan,

Now I see that you have a GUI through Options / Controller of vArranger to detect and accept the MIDI signals triggered by pressing the buttons of the external MIDI controllers as the recognized pre-configured buttons.

I found that the configuration for Korg nanoKontrol2 through USB is more robust, whereas the configuration for Yamah MFC10 through MIDI in sometimes causes errors, but if I press "Continue" the Options / Controller still continue to function.  When I got stuck, I had to reboot the Windows laptop to clear up and resume with Options / Controller.

Somehow, I do not know for sure which vArranger controller functions corresponding to the following buttons in akyelken's skin:

Knobs:

Drum
Perc.
Bass
Acc1
Acc2
Acc3
Acc4
Acc5

Faders / Sliders:

Right1
Right2
fX1
fX2

Buttons:

Style back
Style next
< Page style
Page style >
< Page sound
Page sound >
SELECT my sound
SELECT  RIGHT Play Track
2nd Voice
Panic
Plugin VST

Thanks,
Paul

Very nice layout!

Dan and all, I wonder what are the corresponding MIDI system exclusive message values of vArranger to these buttons and sliders?  I could not find these specifications in the vArranger's owner's manual or this forum.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Your configuration is perfect for vArranger
Better for you to load your SoundFonts directly inside vArranger software Synthesizer, that is better than CoolSoft

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your reply.

Upon your confirmation, I just paid for vArranger 2 using PayPal.  Please send me the download link at your convenience.

Hi Dan,

Does vArranger 2 support CookSoft VirtualMIDISynth?  I am running CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth with CrisisGeneralMidi3.0 sound font (1610MB) on 2017 Intel i7 quad core CPU Windows 10 laptop with 16GB RAM and 512-GB NVMe SSD - the sounds are quite decent.  I also have 22-inch touchscreen monitor connected to the Windows 10 laptop to be placed on the music stand of the MIDI keyboard.

I would like to buy vArranger 2 software but do not know if the above setup will cause any latency issue when playing notes from the MIDI keyboard (Casio Privia PX560 88-key digital stage piano, with Korg nanoKontrol2 just in case the touchscreen monitor setup does not work well).  Hardware sound module solution like Ketron SD2 should be easier but causes extra money, and extra item to setup.

Thanks,
Paul
