Title: Drum Mixer
Post by: Jamkey on January 21, 2019, 02:27:11 PM
Hello,

Does the Drum-mixer only works with the SD 2?
I want to use it also with my VST-drums.

Regards, Rudi.

Hello,

You can read more about the Drum Mixer here
https://www.varranger.com/vforum/index.php/topic,3311.0.html

For now, the drum mixer only works for the Ketron SD2, SD1000 and vArranger Software Synthesizer
I don't think any VST is able to react to any kind of drum mixer midi messages

If you know some, let me know.

It would be great if the Drum Mixer could work for other hardware too(e.g. Motif Rack XS)
as with some styles a particular drum part can sound very out of place.
In these occasions a mute or voice switch for a particular note would be so good!
If the mapping is time consuming , would a Mute Voice be quick to implement?

Hello Dan,

Hypersonic, Halionsonic and Halion have so called 'Quick Control' buttons to change important parameters for the selected sound.
These Quick Control Buttons can learn a midi-CC.
The Quick Controls in the Drumsounds, for example, are destinated to the volumes of each drumgroup (bassdrum, snares, hihats, .....) identical like the Drum-mixer-knobs.
It would be magnific to control these drumgroup-volumes with the drum-mixer for every separate Accompaniment-Style in the same way as for the SD2, SD1000, or vArr-synt.

Maybe, this function is possible or can be implemented .....

Best Regards !

Drum Mixer Controllers are based on SD2 and SD1000 Sys Ex commands and
this commands understand only SDs. But, with one of software midi processor or
Midi Event Router it can be "translated" to f.E. NI Kontakt sampler in which you
can address MIDI Commands to any Note. It is a big and long job but it will be
funct like on SD2 or SD1000.

I will try to add it for XG so it will work with all Yamaha synth
I think MOTIF is a bit different
For the VST... I think better to go on VST Options, and SAVE a PRESET... But still need to add recall of presets with song....

Hi Dan.
I think one of the features to nicely  benefit "Drum mixer" would be a choice of popular drum maps of hardware. Similar to Sennheizer Drummica.
If I use that VST for drums and some notes (hits) are wrong, I just put drums on solo and try a different map and one of them will sound good.

Yamaha Motif is not XG Standard Instrument, cause of that your add for XG instruments
will not work with Motif. For VST Instruments it will be realy the best choice to implement
"Recall of presets with Song or/and Sound".
