Title: Seeking basic advice: foot-pedal to trigger styles
Post by: rustcat on January 03, 2018, 09:12:59 PM
Greetings and <newbie alert>.  I spent the better part of my earlier life on the Roland G-800, especially making my own styles for live performance - great instrument.  Now, I'm just down to an acoustic guitar and vocals which is a favourite passion for me.  As a starting point, I would like to add some drum styles with various fills, all being triggered by a foot-pedal only.  I'm really seeking a simple setup without having to push many buttons or keys.  I envision something like the FC-7 foot controller with 4-6 pedals for intro, fill-to-basic, fill-to-variation and ending.  In my setup, I will have a laptop at hand-level to choose the styles and off we go.

Is this possible with vArranger out of the box?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and HNY!

Joe

Welcome...

In one word... Yes...

There is many options to connect pedals to the computer, depending if you already own a pedal.

I have recently created a small electronic module that can be inserted into the TC Helicon switch 6 to be able to connect it to a USB port of your computer.

We also have a module converted for the Ketron FS6 and FS13 pedals...

Thanks, this is very promising.  Sorry for my ignorance, could you kindly walk me through the setup for this?  Standing in front of the microphone, i will have the laptop on a stand at hand level and the foot-pedal on the floor.  Sounds like I will need a sound-module and possibly an audio-interface (I have a Focusrite 4i6).  What are the steps I need to go through?  Thanks so much in advance.

If you already have a not too old computer, you can start using vArranger with the virtual instrument and the internal laptop sound jack. No need of modules or sound card... This can be for a second time when you feel the need of improvement, or add more virtual instruments.

Hi Dan,

Does vArranger 2 support CookSoft VirtualMIDISynth?  I am running CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth with CrisisGeneralMidi3.0 sound font (1610MB) on 2017 Intel i7 quad core CPU Windows 10 laptop with 16GB RAM and 512-GB NVMe SSD - the sounds are quite decent.  I also have 22-inch touchscreen monitor connected to the Windows 10 laptop to be placed on the music stand of the MIDI keyboard.

I would like to buy vArranger 2 software but do not know if the above setup will cause any latency issue when playing notes from the MIDI keyboard (Casio Privia PX560 88-key digital stage piano, with Korg nanoKontrol2 just in case the touchscreen monitor setup does not work well).  Hardware sound module solution like Ketron SD2 should be easier but causes extra money, and extra item to setup.

Thanks,
Paul

Your configuration is perfect for vArranger
Better for you to load your SoundFonts directly inside vArranger software Synthesizer, that is better than CoolSoft

I also like the Behringer FCB 1010 very much. 10 foot switches and two expression pedals.
